Should I be friends with homosexuals?

You say fruit should be seen, a heart converted. I have converted only 4 to the Catholic faith that I know of, but these were dramatic conversions. I may have influenced more people to the faith that I am not aware of, but I know of at least 4 people. The biggest conversion has been in my own life. I owe such a conversion to my consecration to Jesus through Our Lady by the way described by St. Louis de Montfort, also the daily rosary had a huge impact, the Divine Office too, and the daily Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary as well. I will soon move to a town where they have daily mass, that will also become a part of my daily life. I have seen so much fruit in my own life it is ridiculous, I really have increased dramatically in sanctity, I don’t have any sin that I am attached too anymore, even venial. I am only 38. So I want to go to a daily mass so I can offer up plenary indulgences to the souls in purgatory. I desire union with God through Our Lady, that is the main goal.

Someone asked if I was married, no I am not married. I am a 38 year old single man by choice, I gave up marriage so I could devote more time to prayer. I dated before, but discerned what I really want is a prayerful life and a penitential life directed solely toward God. I discerned the priesthood before when I was much younger, but it was decided that life was not for me. I am fine and perfectly happy with anything as long as I am living holy. Praise be to Jesus Christ!
May God bless you in this Holy path.

Generally you don’t have to un-friend them. If you don’t buy into their homosexual belief system, they will want nothing to do with you.
Right 👍 And no Catholic should want anything to do with being around that kind of stuff. Conversation and “acquaintance” might be alright. They are people. But you love the sinner and hate the sin.

And what if the gays you so compassionately admit are people, are actual family members of yours? Would you also recommend limiting your interaction to that of a mere acquaintance?

ToeInTheWater,
Pax Domini,

I wouldn’t separate my relationship with a family member. I have cousins who are homosexuals and I still see them for family gatherings, I am sure they hate those family gatherings more than me. God bless them, I love them, and sympathize with their pain. But look, I am not going to be a friend (more than mere acquaintances) to someone who is homosexual. Doesn’t mean I don’t sympathize with their pain or have compassion towards those people. But I am not going to be best friends with a homosexual, that would be having bad company, which the bible strictly forbids, “bad company ruins good morals.” See for a family member, I personally couldn’t separate myself from them, they are family and we are required to not separate ourselves from them. If I had a child that was homosexual, I would lovingly try and throw my child in a Catholic boarding school with monks and nuns and a whip. I would love my child, though even if he was homosexual, but I would clearly let him know such behavior was unacceptable and he will bear the price of such a disordered lifestyle and offense to God if he so choose to act out on sinful homosexual desires. Ad Jesum per Mariam

It’s obviously your choice who you are friends with, but I have found that gay people are gasp just like any other human beings. I have run into some who are completely all about the “lifestyle” and are very pushy and sometimes vulgar and some who keep their private things private and share interests and hobbies etc. One of my good friends is gay and he doesn’t speak about his personal life, is single and was the one who introduced me to the Extraordinary Form of the mass. Use your best judgement and try not to paint everyone with the same brush just because of their sexual orientation. They have interests, jobs, pets and families just like you and I. Some are great people, some are jerks. It’s not like they come from the planet Gaydar.

Sounds like from the very beginning you had already decide what you are going to do I understand what you are saying and I see your concerns . before you do drop these people from your life consider first whether your are there possibly to draw these people to Christ and that won’t happen over night it will be a hard difficult journey God asks people sometimes to do these difficult things - its sound from what you said that people are drawn to you - but in the end if you feel in your heart you are to follow another path and God is calling you away from this then you must follow that direction. God will must be done in you life.

I ended up following a path I never thought was meant for me or thought that i would be able to do but now I know I was made for it. Jesus walks with me in it and and through him I am able to do it. On my own I could not do it so the glory is his in anything I do.

Pax Domini,

The Extraordinary Form of the Mass, is full of people who are homosexuals. Priests who celebrate the Extraordinary Form of the Mass (Tridentine Latin Rite), admit that the lay people who go to confession there are confessing homosexual sins much more frequent than the ordinary form of the Roman Rite (Novus Ordo). Father Ripperger admitted this in one of his sermons, on sentrad.org. People who usually go to Extraordinary Form of the Mass, usually blame the Novus Ordo mass for their fall into grave sins, they have really big skeletons in the closet. So, these people really think it is Vatican II (Novus Ordo) liturgies fault for them being homosexual. Too funny! Not always the case, though. For example the FSSP definitely doesn’t allow any homosexuals in their seminary, but the lay people who go to the Extraordinary Form (Tridentine Latin Rite) have a hugely disportionate amount of homosexuals. Really?

My long experience with those they call gay is that as soon as they realise I am a sincere Christian they vanish, or sometimes attack.

I would be happy to be a friend, no overt evangelising etc but it seems Christians have too often left a very bad taste and reading some of the OP ( just some as too much to endure) I can sympathise with them.

Yes, really. Kind of joking about the whip though, but yes, I would put my child in a boarding school with nuns and monks if my child was gay. Or maybe I would send him/her off to a Catholic military school, if there was one. Regardless, I would try and ensure my child had strong moral, religious, and disciplinary upbringing and separate them from the worldly influences that encourage homosexual behavior or say that such a lifestyle is ok. I would also pray the daily rosary with my child and take my child to daily mass to give them the grace to live holy. And also take them to frequent confession and throw away the TV.

I have had some homosexuals want nothing to do with me, once they knew my views about homosexuality and that I was Catholic. These are the same type of homosexuals who will not be a customer at Chick-fil-A and other Christian stores that are owned by Catholics or Christians. There are some homosexuals who are more militant than Catholics evangelizing even.

But most of the people I have met who practice homosexuality are not turned off when I am Catholic and share my beliefs on morality. Well because usually these people I have grown up together with me since I was a child, they know I care about them, so they tolerate my Catholic beliefs.

A 38 year old man who doesn’t want to get married because of a robust prayer life, but has a lot of "hang out time with 90 percent of his friends as active homosexuals, who if he did have kids would send them to a boarding school if they were gay who linked to a ultra traditional website…
Hmmmm. Something doesn’t add up here. Nope, I don’t buy it.

What don’t you buy Hoosier Daddy? What doesn’t add up? Look I don’t hang out with these homosexuals anymore. Truthfully, I didn’t know these people were homosexuals. They kept that ultra-secret from me. They knew how I felt about such things. And yes, I gave up my friends that shared that with me. And yes, the reason why I don’t want to get married is so I can pray more and study the faith more, be more totally devoted to God and not have my heart divided, have a heart totally focused on God. That is what I want. I have dated/courted some women before, and yes, I turned down marriage for a more prayer time and study. I am definitely not homosexual.

Another thing, . And yes, if I did have a child that practiced homosexuality, I would definitely throw him/her into boarding school, or homeschool, and take them to daily mass everyday and pray the rosary with my child daily. That is what I would do. So what don’t you buy??? You think someone wouldn’t do that? Do you think, I should have known that a huge majority of my friends had homosexual attractions? I couldn’t tell my friends were gay, cause they don’t act gay at all. They all drive big trucks, and have beards, and dip Copenhagen. They don’t act gay to me, most all my old friends have girlfriends, none have boyfriends. But these same men, look at gay porn. In fact one time, I looked at my friends phone and he had “cowboy gay porn” on it. I was a rancher. I think people who look at gay porn are strange and weird, and very sinful, and these same friends have had homosexual sex in past. So no, I am not hanging out with them. I am a very Catholic guy. So yes, I would put a child who had homosexual strong tendencies probably at homeschool, or if not homeschool at a Catholic boarding school.

Yeah, and it is like having an acquaintance that is a heroin addict. You can converse with them, minister to them, advise them, etc, but that does not mean going on dope runs with them or squeezing their arm so they can find a vein. Basically you talk to the soul of the person rather than the ego of the person regardless of whether that ego is addicted to drugs or homosexual behavior.

Weird

I think some good spiritual direction would be helpful to you. Not internet strangers. I think someone to help guide you through some introspection would be good.
I wish you luck, and peace.

I do have a spiritual director and he advised me not to give up my friends. I thought that was weird, so I didn’t listen to my spiritual director. My spiritual director said I should have Catechism lessons with them and take them to Church. I tried that, and with some it worked, with others it didn’t. I dropped my friends it didn’t work with. This was very hard for me to do, they were my best friends, usually since 8 years old.

My spiritual director said that homosexuals are attracted to good looking men, and maybe some of these guys thought I was good looking.

Why do you think so many of your friends are homosexual? 90 percent is well above the average. Why the anomaly?

Wow. That’s odd.
good looking people have gay friends at s higher rate than ugly people?

This just keeps getting odder

Lol! Hoosier Daddy you are one funny guy. Well, look I think it is odd too. Ok. This whole thing was extremely confusing to me. Why do have such a hard time all my life with homosexuals being my friends? I honestly don’t know. Yes, my spiritual director said that homosexual men are drawn to men they think are good looking, However, that was not the point of me starting this thread. I just wanted to share my thoughts on why I am not friends with them anymore and encourage other Catholics to stay away from bad company. And yes, I wanted others (name removed by moderator)ut on this, since it was really hard for me to give up my friends, I felt like a jerk.
