Should I confess?

It’s not about the sacrament, but taking advice from them. I know that a ordained priest can absolve anyone regardless of their possible own mortal sins.

And don’t wearing cassocks is at least a sign of a bad priest. I’m just exercising a little of prudence.
I know I’m going to regret asking, but please explain the thinking behind “not wearing a cassock is a sign of a bad priest.”

Just to clarify something: When I’m talking about cassocks I’m talking about any cloth associated with priests: clergyman shirts, etc.

It’s about the symbol of the uniform, and the mentality that could form from that. Remember them that they’re servers of God, not just doing a every day job. I think that some of them only wear tunics and stoles because are obligated to do so during mass.

Ah! I think that was the problem. A cassock refers to a specific garment, not to all clerical garb. While priests are allowed to wear non-clerical clothing (I’m not sure if there are rules governing when), I agree that a priest should wear a clerical shirt and Roman collar when fulfilling pastoral or other religious duties.

It sounds like you have very little respect or regard for the priests there.
Might want to mention that when you go to confession.

I’ve been going to Church since I was an infant, (1980s to present) in the northeast, midwest, and the south, and I’ve not once seen a priest wear a cassock. And of all the priests I’ve met, that includes at least two or three very good, holy, and orthodox priests. (This isn’t to call the other priests bad, but these two or three were just… radiant in the way they fillowed their vocation.) They all wore a black dress shirt and pants with a Roman collar.

Yes, Adson go to Confession ASAP. This Sacrament can help you overcome your sin. FYI I have never seen a priest do Confession not wearing clerical garb. I have gone to Confession and was given zero advice and overcame the sin anyway. It was just like that. (Imagine smilie snapping fingers.)

Hello,

I’ve been “catholic” for my whole life. I even already received the sacrament of Confirmation. But my whole life has also been empty, everything was a lie, without knowing what to do, without purpose. I dropped university, started other things, and like most people of this generation, I kind of settled with my mother and I’m a lazy bastard.

But for the last two months, I’ve been in great conflict, with great conflicts and fear of death. For the last 3 weeks more or less, I started to pray the rosary, 5 mysteries each day and didn’t miss one day yet. I’m trying to learn about the catholic faith with more intensity and start a new life.

I really went through all my sins and made a list of 2 pages. I want to clean everything, or most of things in my soul.

But there’s only one sin that’s hindering me, not because it’s difficult to tell to the priest but because of my own situation: sloth

I don’t know if I should confess only when I get a job. I have so much fear that because I didn’t get rid of this, all my other sins won’t be forgiven.
My dear friend in Christ,

Here for your consideration is the REAL issue your avoiding [and KNOW that in doing so you are very far from being alone in this]

WHO"S in charge of your life [and your eternity?]

You or our GOD?

That my friend is the question that needs to be answered, And in doing so, know that the responsibility cannot be split; cannot be shared, It’s either you, or its GOD.

Now about Confession.

1st. There is but one unforgivable sin, ONLY one and its denial of God /Jesus

2nd. There are NO “new sins” and it is near impossible to SHOCK a Confessor-priest

3rd.The SEAL of Confession is total, complete, permanent and STRICTLY confidential; so much so that even threatened with literal-death, a priest cannot reveal what he has heard in the Confessional.

Catholic Sacramental Confession is also know as “the known forgiveness of sins”

John.20 Verses 19 to 23
[19] On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” [20] When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. [21] **Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” ** [this is a literal transfer of authority] [22] And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. [23] If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

Dear friend what your considering is depriving yourself of the INTENT of the Sacramental GIFT of Catholic Confession…True inn er PEACE:)

BY not Confessing ALL Mortal sins; you are depriving yourself of the JOY:D of known forgiveness and inner peace. And your depriving GOD what is Justly due to Him and what He desires to give to YOU.

Keep praying the Rosary; it is one of the key’s to unlocking heavens single gate.

Mt 7: 11-24 "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!** "Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many**. **For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few. ** "Beware of false prophets, [INCLUDING OUR OWN PRIDE] who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?
So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit. A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits.
"Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. ** On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’ ** "Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock"

**John.10: 1 **“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber”

So my friend you have to choose between your way and God’s way [those are your only choices]

John.14: 6 "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.”

Pray much and look for a private message from me

Just to reiterate something another poster pointed out: sloth is not about being unemployed. It’s about avoiding or not getting done those things you know you should be doing. It’s about being idle and/or lazy and not having good self-control.

So you can do things now, with or without a job, to avoid sloth and gain more self-mastery and diligence.

And if sloth is a problem for you now, keep in mind that it will likely still be a struggle when you have a job. Don’t let it sneak up on you by thinking being employed will protect you from that temptation.

I won’t bet my soul on the priests of my city. They don’t even use cassock, I know one that said that Jesus didn’t perform the miracle of multiplication of bread and fish, just a lot of people gathering their own resources and sharing, and in none of past confessions, I don’t remember the priests orienting me or helping me through my sins even when I didn’t know what to say.

I want to tell my sins and leave. The only ones I trust are you guys.
Consider the sequence of events one is to go through with a person they have a disagreement. Particularly a serious disagreement
  • go to that person first. If no solution, then
  • Go to that person’s superior, in this case the bisho
How many parishes do you have in your area? For your own peace of mind, go to confession for those issues you spoke of, and you should look into a change of parish …immediately

Update:

I confessed last tuesday, but it didn’t went so well and now is worrying me.

I started to read and after 1 ou 2 minutes, the priests realized that it would be a general confession and he wouldn’t have time, that it would take too much time to advice. I insisted that I didn’t need advice, but only the absolution. Then, he said that I should tell the sins that made me more worried.

When I reached a particular sin, one of a difficult time, I started to cry., but it wasn’t a insurmountable shame. The priest asked if he could take the papers, I give my consent and he read that fast, and gave me the absolution.
I prayed the act of contriction, but I don’t remember if I focused in anything. Fear of hell/wanting to go to The Heavens.

PS: I don’t intend to transform this thread into my personal diary. But this question is indirectly related with my initial problem, and I thought it’d be better if I keep everything together instead of creating a new thread. Furthermore, a ton of sins depend on the validity of that confession.

If you’re worried about this, probably the only person who will be able to give you peace on this issue is your priest. I know you’ve said you don’t trust your priests, but you should at the very least trust they know how to perform the sacraments.
I read what you just wrote and nothing seemed to invalidate it. But who shpuld you trust? The priest who went through the seminary, has given many absolutions, amd has Holy Orders? Or the stranger on the internet?

And if you’re scrupulous, your priest will be the one to guide you.

Prayers.

If the priest absolved you your sins are forgiven. It is over with, okay? Now make a habit of going to Confession.😉
