Should I miss mass tomorrow?

I recently came down with the flu this past Thursday. I have been taking antivirals and they have been working very well. As of right now, I am feeling much better and haven’t been coughing lately. I would say I am feeling 80%, and I feel healthy enough to attend mass, although I am unsure if I am still contagious. I would like to attend mass tomorrow and I feel healthy enough, but I do not want to risk spreading the flu. What should I do?

If you are not coughing and feel alright, you could just go to Mass and refrain from going up to Communion and shaking hands during the Sign of Peace.

My advice would be to stay home until you are certain you’re over it. The flu can be very dangerous for the very young and the elderly.

Please stay home. There are babies, elderly, and people with immune disorders who cannot fight viruses that you might be putting at risk.

Please stay home. There are those of us whose immune systems have already been down.

I have missed the last two weekend masses - it bothers me. Yet, I have two separate viruses and a third - especially the flu - would likely kill me. I do not want to transmit, or acquire a 3rd virus. Look around at all the gray hair at mass. Transmitting the flu to them could also be fatal.

You can watch the mass live at EWTN, make a spiritual communion, and then mention this to father at your next confession. It is not a sin if you are sick, while you are contagious.

Doubts? Call doctor, the ER or a 24 hour clinic for some guidance. At a bare minimum, wear a mask and do not shake hands.

Here in Pittsburgh, local masses at St. Mary’s at the Point are shown on cable TV channels, I’m sure that’s the case in other places around the country too.

It’s a blessing for those of us too ill to attend. Except for the physical distance involved, we are there.

I just read that a person infected with the flu virus can spread it with exhaled air. You don’t have to cough or sneeze, just breathing can spread the virus. And, the virus is still alive for hours after you touch something.

I’m over 65, I have chronic medical conditions, and I take meds that lower my resistance to infection. I’m not going to Mass until the epidemic is over. The news has reported very healthy people dying from this form of flu.

I wouldn’t want to either spread the flu virus or contract it.

I don’t think sick people should be in church, in such a crowd.

Since you were prescribed antivirals I’m assuming that a doctor has confirmed that this is in fact the flu.

If that’s correct, you should stay home. That you feel better doesn’t mean the person you catch it from will.

I’d stay home to be sure not to infect anyone. Some people can’t fight it off well.

I would play it safe and stay home. Just because you feel better doesn’t mean you’re completely over the flu.

It failed their lab test which they told me was only 70% effective at detecting one or two strains of the flu, but besides that they were able to diagnose it as such and give me the prescription.

I am missing Mass because of cold, snowy weather. My church is 15 miles away and up a steep and winding road.

Stay home. Think of those at mass who are older, or very young…

If you attend, avoid contact with others, only take communion via host, sit apart as much as possible.

Weather can also be a factor. You and God know why, thats all that matters.

STAY HOME!

The flu is KILLING people this year.

Do NOT mess with potentially being contagious around elderly and small children. JUST DON’T DO IT!

Honestly, with people being so STUPID in light of the tragedies occurring, I’m seriously considering skipping Mass for the next few weeks so my young children don’t get sick. Not fear-mongering but the flu shot was a really poor match this year and things like RSV can piggyback–both of which can kill–and ARE killing–children.

Yes just stay home & don’t worry about it. It’s contagious for a reason.

If you were diagnosed with the flu last Thursday I’d say stay home. The flu this year is a serious disease. You may still be contagious and the medication may be suppressing your symptoms. If you had just a cold I’d say you should go.
