You’re not going to have any of these women you’re staring at, even if you were the greatest Lothario in the world. It’s impossible. You don’t have the time or the energy, if nothing else.

So avoid filling your heart with annoying lust, and wasting your time.

I try not to look at women at all. I now see that the idea of women covering up is a good one. They should only show themselves to their husband, in private.

Then a man might be able to go for a stroll in peace!

As for women showing themselves off to get a husband; your future husband can see through a head-scarf. If you dress tarty, you’re exciting lust in men who’ll never have you. It’s annoying.

I saw pictures on a Muslim dating site recently, and was amused to see I could discern the ‘hotties’, even just by their eyes and the bridge of their nose 🙂

I think the question says it all, “stop staring” at beautiful girls…

If you are “staring” then that’s taken to mean a longer look at a woman and at that point you would probably start creeping her out, so if you are staring at them, then you’d be better off stopping! 🙂

Admiring the body of another is nothing to be ashamed about. A woman’s body is a work of art. It is absolutely gorgeous. There is certainly nothing wrong with getting pleasure out of looking at something so beautiful.

Now when I say pleasure, I do not mean sexual pleasure. I am referring to the same type of pleasure you would get when you look at a beautiful sunset. Looking at a woman to be sexually aroused is disordered. If you are having thoughts about them that arouses you to an extent that it tempts you to a sin of impurity; it is a grave matter. It is also disordered to have thoughts about another person that does not reflect the dignity and respect you owe a daughter/son of the King of Heaven.

So in conclusion, admiring a woman like you would a statue is good. Lusting after them, or not giving them the respect you owe them is disordered.

Stop staring, yes. Looking briefly and appreciating God’s marvelous creation of the ladyfolk…very OK. 👍
Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George got caught staring at a client’s daughters cleavage,. Afterward Seinfeld admonishes him telling him that staring at cleavage is like a vampire and the Sun.You are only allowed a quick glance and then you must turn your face away.

This is a very good topic and one that holds importance especially for those that are around beautifull women throughout the course of a day. I think there is a balance that we must look at here. Someone said a woman is prettier when she is covered up and not showing off her body and this is so true. According to St.Bonaventure, St.Francis wouldnt even look at a woman or speak to one unless he talked to her about penance and such. Now that doesnt mean that St.Francis didnt admire beauty but he was very carefull because he knew the danger of lust and the importance of purity. We have to realize that women are beautifull. And when we see beautifull women that are trying to get our attention with their bodies we cannot get angry at them but only use kindness and think, “why does that woman want to dress that way?” This way we turn our thoughts to that of true love. Also there can be an inordinant desire to keep your eyes focused in beautifull womans bodies which can be be of no profit and lead one astray. So its a two way street. Woman are beautifull but we must give them justice to the point of not taking their beauty for any little pleasure for ourselves. With all this said, married men should have their eyes focused on their wives, who to them is the most beautifull woman that has ever existed. 🙂

I think people here are missing the point of this verse. Don’t let an impure woman ensnare you with her beauty and lead you to sin and destruction. That’s what its saying.

Another lady brought up the saint who could look at the beautiful woman and not look at her with lust while all the other bishops and priests looked away.

I’m trying to get to that point. I would say any time you notice your mind starting to lust after a woman your looking at or thinking about start praying. The rosary is great for this one.

You can really get into someones head with a look that isn’t what they are used to. And then you might just be able to help them out. Like that saint did.

I think men in general struggle with this. My recommendation would be to pray, pray, pray, and pray some more. He will then teach you how to see the world through his very own eyes.

Thank you for the post. Without God’s help these things are too hard to beat on our own.

“Should I stop staring at beautiful girls?”

Yes. Turn away and try to think of something else. Seeing is one thing. Staring is another. I’m no saint in this regard, but I’m trying.

Thank you for this question. It forces many of us to think about the secular world we are in, and the challenges that we face.

While I agree with most of the posters here, I also am of the opinion that a lot of the Sistine Chapel is quite indecent and should not have been allowed.

Some times this is my problem as well.
Just staring when you see strikingly beautiful woman !
Yesterday for example , I saw so beautiful girl that I think that I did not see that type of girl for a very long time.
And what I did ?
I just followed her for a while just to look at her .
It were the minutes of inspiration , minutes of delight , of trance.
Some times there is a beauty which just shocks you.
Woman’s beauty is not just great power.
Some times its like theophany , like revelation !
You feel delight , you feel just shocked at beauty , and some times its difficult to discern positive feelings of delight from the sinful lust.
There is nothing wrong when you look at beauty as one looks at the rainbow , or nice flower , or when listening the music.
Woman’s beauty can be that flower or music , but when the sexual delight and lust is present it’s a sin.
I am very touchable to woman’s beauty as well.
Even since I was a kidWhen I was a kid.
In my yearly childhood the woman’s beauty was the impact to the convertion.
The impact for my believe to God Creator , to God of heaven , to God of miraculous design…
But we should be careful and watchful for our eyes , because the sin can be at the door of such a paradise visions…🙂
I am not married yet , but I must confess some times its my problem as well.

“A woman’s beauty gladdens the countenance, and surpasses every human desire.” (Sirach 36:22)

So true! 🙂
