A 20 year-old witnessing the shenanigans of two 17 year-olds is in a quite different legal situation than a mandatory reporter like a priest would be.You need to figure out what the laws are in your area so as to not be the adult cooperator of criminal sexual abuse of minors. Sexting, solicitation, and other such activities are illegal and immoral and as an adult you have the responsibility of ensuring the welfare of any minors in your care. Had a priest been in your shoes, I would guess (but I am not a civil lawyer) that he would have been jailed for allowing this.
Still, the more I look at what the OP has witnessed, the more I think she ought to go to the girl’s parents and report everything she knows. That is one vulnerable girl, and she has started to act out in ways that could get her raped, into drugs, and who knows what. She needs an intervention ASAP, and if she won’t talk to the OP because of it, so be it.* It is better than finding out on Sunday that she was gang-raped on Saturday night and that is easily where this could go.* There is no way she should be spending New Year’s Eve with anyone except her parents!
OP, if the parents poo-poo you, do not back down. If it is necessary, repeat what you have heard verbatim. Make it very clear that their daughter is in extreme danger of a date rape, and based on the kind of talk she is welcoming from young men with bad intentions, it probably won’t be long. It also might not be just one guy. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up to think about it. A talk with local authorities who fight sex trafficking of young women is not out of the question, either.
