I think that you are wrong. Nobody should and can be kicked out of the Church. There is no salvation outside the Church and that means that men would condemn to hell someone. That is God’s right and not our privilege. Excommunication is the worst thing that could happen to a living Catholic, and that too is not a punishment but a teaching tool.

I think you should remove the log from your own eye before you worry about what might be in the Vice President’s eye.

But that’s just me

My opinion is that I have no say in whether someone is “kicked out” of the Church. I defer to his bishop.

He is likely already excommunicated, as excommunication for abortion is (forgive myy spelling) latae sententiae meaning that it happens at the moment of his action, so if he voted for abortion, or openly supports it, it is likely he is already excommunicated.

Only He himself can get himself out the Church, by renouncing his Faith, i believe there used to be a rite of Anathema back in the old Canon Law pre-Vatican II, which was basicly a severe excommunication, that was publically announced by the Pope, declaring someone to be outside of communion with the Church, that however is no longer a practice.

No one gets kicked out of the Catholic Church. There is at least the strong possibility that VP Biden has incurred excommunication latae sententiae (automatic) for his support of pro-abortion policies. However, that is between him and his Bishop.

(oops Skeptic types faster than I do and beat me to it) 😉

Do you have some evidence that the OP has been running around publically advocating the killing of inocents or some other morally sinful acts? If not, the comment doesn’t make sense.

By his actions against the unborn, he and multiple other “catholics” have self excommunicated themselves from receiving the Eucharist.

They care more for their reelections (their earthly jobs) than they care for the unborn.

catholicadvocate.com/wp/?page_id=10

Because their sin in public, their penance is public. Their votes must support the unborn.

The Magisterium does decide, their public condition is brought to the Bishop.

Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City (after repeated counseling attempts with Kathleen Sebelius- Sec. of Health and Human Services ) told her (and the public) that she should not present herself for the Eucharist.

Receiving the Eucharist and being actually kicked out of the CC like the OP wants, are entirely different.

Nancy Pelosi thinks she’s a Catholic too. Both she and Biden (and Sebalius too) present the wrong image of Catholics to the world.

I do think pro-abortion politicians who are ostensibly Catholic should be excommunicated. They have chosen their position, they can convert and be some other faith if they think a woman’s “right to choose” is more important than the life of the innocent baby that’s already been created. It’s not the excommunication that would send them to Hell, it’s their support of the murder of babies. How can you top Satan??

It’s no wonder the world has little respect for the Catholic Church. If they look at Pelosi and Biden, they wonder “well what’s all the fuss about abortion then?”

:mad::mad:

No he should not. If we started kicking sinners out of the Catholic Church there wouldnt be anyone left. However that is not to say that the public does not to be reminded constantly that he advances political views that are a direct rejection of the teachings of the church

The Catholic Church does not “kick people out.”

The Church is not a club. The Church is the Body of Christ. Every person is incorporated into the Body of Christ via their baptism, and baptism is an indelible mark on our souls.

The Church’s mission is to save souls. Those who are living in a sinful manner or who hold positions contrary to Church teaching need saving more than anyone. The priests and bishops are the pastors, teachers, and governors of the Church. Their role is to help these individuals find the Truth and live in virtue and holiness.

A Catholic who is publicly at odds with Catholic teaching can and should be dealt with **pastorally **by his/her bishop and could, if necessary and justified, face various canonical penalties through the juridical processes outlined in Canon Law.

Excommunication is a specific penalty for procuring a completed abortion. It would not apply in the situation you describe above. And, excommunication does not “kick out” a Catholic from the Church. An excommunicated individual is still a Catholic.

Can. 1398 A person who procures a completed abortion incurs a latae sententiae excommunication.

Such a pesron is still a Catholic, and can be reconciled, receive absolution and resume the sacraments.

👍

I wonder if maybe the OP and others (myself included) are really expressing a desire for the Bishops to act (collectively or individually) with these politicians and other public figures in a decisive manner. Like Bishop Olmsted of Phoenix is doing with that Catholic hospital that allowed an abortion to be performed.

We can’t know, I guess, if a Bishop is meeting with such a public figure privately and confidentially about such matters as described above. We can only hope. And pray for all of them. But it’s just inspiring when Bishops act decisively to exercise their moral authority in such a secularized and pluralistic society.

Nancy Pelosi thinks she’s a Catholic too.
She is a Catholic, by virtue of her baptism. All of them are.
Both she and Biden (and Sebalius too) present the wrong image of Catholics to the world.
Certainly we all do at times. Their failings are very public and very serious. We must pray for them.

Encouraging someone to leave the Church for another faith is **not **the purpose of excommunication. That is a completely wrongheaded notion of the purpose, and what we should be praying and working towards regarding those who dissent from Church teaching.

Of course.

These sorts of dealings are always confidential. (How would any of us like it if our bishop or priest made public his dealings with us?)

In Olmsted’s case, it is the hospital administratorthat went public with the correspondence to them, not the bishop.

So, we must have faith that our bishops DO deal with these people in a private and pastoral manner. It may not go as quickly as we like. It may not have visible results we like. But, ultimately the goal is saving souls and that is a slow, difficult process for many!

As Catholics they should abide by the teachings and rules.

But as Americans we have freedom of speech and a right to our own opinions.

I really don’t think Biden and Pelosi serve as “role-models” to the majority of the country anyway:D
