Should major league baseball eliminate base "stealing"?

I think it teaches a good lesson.

If you are caught stealing you are out

In real life, if you are caught stealing you are also out but instead of being sent to a dugout you will be sent to a cell.

In either case, if you get away with it you have benefitted. In baseball you advance one base. In real life you get to keep whatever it is that you stole. So it’s all about risk and reward.

Of course it’s ok to steal bases in baseball. It’s allowed by the rules, and calling it “stealing” is just a metaphor.

Would you say that it’s a sin to “kill” another player in a videogame and “steal” his stuff? That’s allowed by the game! It isn’t actual murder, robbery, or theft!

Now, CHEATING is another matter entirely.

actually I think theft is sometimes justified, like if someone who is starving steals so they can eat. We can add ‘stealing in baseball’ to that list.

Stealing bases is OK, but I’m not sure if they should be sacrificing flies.

Flies? They’re way beyond sacrificing flies. Baseball lost the Hindu vote when they strayed from peanuts and crackerjack and made all-beef hotdogs the mainstay of the menu.
