On the Notre Dame campus, there is a mural on the side of Hesburgh Library entitled “The Word of Life”. Most call it “Touchdown Jesus”.

The commencement will be held at Notre Dame Stadium, but looming over Notre Dame’s endzone is the mural.

Knowing what happened at Georgetown, do you think they’ll should cover up the mural so as not to offend the President if he comes to the commencement?

That won’t be necessary! They could simply position President Obama so that it appears that the Lord is paying him homage, sort of like how he did to the King of Saudia Arabia.

It’s in the Joyce Center. That’s the basketball arena. There aren’t any religious symbols in there to my knowledge. Obama probably won’t even see Touchdown Jesus.

No, he’ll see Touchdown Jesus. I’ve been on their campus; you can’t miss the library. Unless, of course, the football team continues its struggles and they repaint the mural to change it into Incomplete Pass John the Baptist.

I happen to like “touchdown” Jesus and think the mural is an important part of the campus identity.

I’d rather they just threw something over Obama.

What happened at Georgetown: I keep hearing references to it, but not what actually happened. Clearly I have missed something and am once again a day late and a dollar short.

Obama recently gave a speech from there. The White House asked that the crucifix and any other religious symbol be covered while he spoke and the supposedly-Catholic university complied, bowing to Caesar instead of God.

It should be interesting when Obama speaks at Notre Dame. He will be expected to wear a robe which has crosses and a short prayer to Mary on it. It will probably burst into flame if he puts it on.

Oh, Gary!!

I might die from the irony of Georgetown doing this. Did you know that it was only a very few years ago that Georgetown put crucifixes back up in classrooms against the University’s will because of a grassroots movement among the students? Georgetown had taken them down some years before because there were non-Catholic students attending the University and they didn’t want to offend anyone. Even the Islamic students thought this was silly, because as they pointed out, it’s a Catholic University should be expected to have Catholic symbols.

I personally do not feel that it should be covered up but that is just my own personal opinion.

I’d forgotten about that.

We’ve got our own Touchdown Jesus. It’s at a non-denominational megachurch about 15 miles from me.

Well, given what Notre Shame is doing, the mural should be changed to Jesus making the signal for ineligible receiver…
