Should older couples get married?

  1. I can’t see how marriage later in life destroys family harmony. It is a compliment to their previous marriages that my grandfather and my step-grandmother wanted to marry. As for finanaces, both signed a pre-nup to protect their children’s inheritance so that one family wouldn’t get everything if the other spouse died first.
As against pre-nups as I am I think that was a very appropriate time to get one.

I know one thing my mom did before she got married was a prenuptual agreement, so that whatever she had before the wedding goes to the children of the first marriage. After the marriage, is a whole other thing. It was difficult but i think a valid solution.

Some would have a prenup to avoid the sacrament, a built in impediment, but if they are seniors and have a new person coming into the family that can avoid the trouble with inheritence. I though it smart.

I am happy though that my mom has this man as the first one was not nice to her…this one cherishes her and thinks she is amazing…as she is and as it should be.

peace.

…nope. Not quite. Dedication to love and family does not a Catholic make. I appreciate the kind gestures, but I have a genuine lack of belief in god.
I see where you’re coming from – I wouldn’t believe something just because most others do, either. I’ve had my proof, so I know unquestioningly that there is a God. Why don’t you tell Him you’d like proof? He could say the proof is already out there, or He might just show you, as He did me, that He’s for real. In any case, what do you have to lose? What you have to gain is out of this world.

Thank you BlueEyedLady and bcPrincess for your comments. You are both very kind. I hope the moderators won’t mind if I hi-jack the thread to tell you a bit more of my story.
As you will have seen I met Dot when I was 35 in 1984 but, in fact, I had known her since we were in school 1954-1960. Dot has these grainy b&w class photos for the six years and she is always only two/three kids away from me. Keeping her eye on me even then she says! We didn’t mix but we were part of the same class. I saw her in the street a couple of times as teenagers and passed the time of day for a couple of minutes. Strange thought that we both remember those incidents! Dots father had a little local jewellery shop. When my Mum died in 1989 we were sorting things out and we found a string of pearls still in a monogrammed box - from Dots fathers shop. She started crying and told me that as a girl of 17 she remembers my Mum coming in every week and paying something off them until she had paid for them. Dot actually remembers giving the pearls to my mother. Dots two daughters were married wearing these pearls and Dot very proudly wore them when we were married in 2009.
Can you imagine if Capt. Kirk was there and told them that while my mother was actually buying the pearls, the two (as yet unborn) daughters of this 17 year old girl would wear them when they got married and that this 17 year old would wear them - when she married her son - 43 years later!!
The Lord works in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform.

Sorry for posting this but I thought it would be nice to round off my earlier post. Thanks for reading it and Blessings to you.

I enjoyed reading your story. The Lord, indeed, works His wonders in mysterious ways. God bless – although it’s obvious that He already has in a huge way.

I am so glad you did share this, the Lord does indeed work in mysterious ways, I wonder what wonders He is up to today…

– Insert speechless smiley here –

On a good day, I might be able to offer an answer half as good as Blue Eyed Lady’s. Well done.
