Should the devout expect to have better lives in this world than non-believers?

Devout people gain capital through authentic relationships and purpose, although this is something that is difficult or impossible to quantify.

Because a large portion of secular society uses profit and work as their new religion, atheists, agnostics and apathetic/non-religious people are probably going to have higher incomes and wealth on average, and be more “successful” based on the conventional metrics of success.

By self-reported standards, clergy are the happiest people alive.

We should desire to suffer. It is in suffering that we are most Christ like; in suffering we follow His way of the cross.

Read just a touch of Saints Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross.

I never fail to be amazed at the strange beliefs people on CAF have about us unbelievers. My wife and I each work in jobs, well below our earning potential elsewhere, that focus on the good of others. Most of our friends are unbelievers who do the same and are generous to those in need. We do our best to ensure that the wealthy are made to pay more and the poor are supported.

He never said unbelievers don’t do charity work, he said many unbelievers base their ultimate measure of success in material wealth. Probably that isn’t your case.
