The moderation and administrative staff has noticed that there is not much activity in the JW sub-forum, as compared to the other sub-forums in Non-Catholic Religions. We are considering retiring and archiving the JW sub-forum and would like your (name removed by moderator)ut. Please vote and leave comments about the usefulness of this sub-forum. We’ll take all opinion into consideration. Thanks!

…what ever you say TM, whatever you say…

…never hurts to suck-up to the chief moderator whenever you get the opportunity…

Unless the subforum takes up too much time and energy to moderate, I think that the subforum should remain open. With the great number of new threads and posts on the CA forums in general, it makes navigation a bit easier, and it makes the forums more organized.

I think it is a good idea to keep it open, as it does organize the forums. It’s just too bad that Jehovah’s Witnesses are discouraged from talking with us.

I vote keep it open, it is small but I at least like it.

Just to confirm this statement.

At my latest visit from some JWs I suggested for them to come to this CA Forum site for answers to their questions. IIt was then that I was informed that JWs do not go to Forums.

I agree with Madaglan. Unless that subforum is taking up resources needed elsewhere, it should be left oepn.

I definitely agree that the sub-forum should be left open because it means you can find threads much more easily and keep track of the latest questions. It was me that suggested that one was made in the first place, and I still say that it is very helpful to keep everything together. It may not be the busiest forum, but those who come find it works!

JW’s would probably not post - for fear they might get caught? But I wouldn’t be suprised if some come to read what’s posted…

Is there any other reason to close it… besides the lack of traffic?

Yes. Currently there are four sub-forums and a main NCR forum being moderated by one moderator. If the traffic doesn’t justify keeping it open, we’re considering closing and archiving it in order to reduce the strain on moderator resources.

As a side note, the sub-forum would still exist as an archive, allowing people to refer to threads that were helpful to them, but it would be closed to further posting.

Please keep the (name removed by moderator)ut coming. We very much appreciate your thoughts! 🙂

How about just moving all these threads back into the NCR forum? The subjects will keep coming up and people may still want to comment on the threads herein. That also gives people just one forum to search thru.

Maybe some wouldn’t be comfortable with Catholic ones. But we can go to forums. They just might have been uncomfortable saying “We dont’ want to talk to you online.” lol.

Oh no. Serves me right for not reading carefully enough. I thought it said “should the forum remain open?” so I voted “yes”. Dang it. Sorry!!

I only recently learned that in fact Jehohah’s Witnesses are NOT encouraged to post in religious forums (except those sponsored by the Watchtower Society itself). Therefore we are likely to see only sporadic and rare interactin with practicing Witnesses, leaving us to speculate among ourselves without having a knowledgeable insder to correct us. Things are different as regards Eastern Orthodoxy, the Latter-Day Saints, and Islam.

I would let the forum run about another month or two and then run the poll again. I tend to agree to agree that the traffic is light, though interest comes in spurts and may pick up now that school is back in session and vacation time is over. This sub-topic may not justify it’s own sub-forum

Maybe they just look and don’t post? I would do that if I was trying to be anonymous.

Is there any way to find out how many anonymouse users lurk on the forums?

If I had the funds I would send in more money to allow this to stay open. If must be then I guess we do need to live with it being closed and just archived.

No, it shouldn’t because catholics need help against the mistakes of the Jw’s. Thank to your web site and the tremendous help which can be found on the web site www.catholicapologetics.net any catholic or christian can find out all the terrible mistakes of this cult.

As Therese said, please continue providing us with (name removed by moderator)ut 🙂 .

Not looking to influence those who have not yet voted, but I wanted to comment on a few of the points raised by folks so far.

To those who have remarked about the subforum’s contribution to easing navigation on the site, that argument could be used to support an entire series of subforums on the site, one for each major non-Catholic faith, which isn’t going to happen 😃 . It’s not such an awful idea, but we’d then end up with multiple under-utilized subforums.

Evangel,

It seems to me as if that would be a logical alternative; the situation is obviously different than that in which topics have been archived because they are no longer topical.

Along that line, the number of posts devoted to JWs is probably unlikely to change and might cause some to wonder “what’s the point? how will this reduce the amount of moderator staff time required?”. Frankly, it takes less time to review threads in the main Non-Catholic Religions forum, which are usually less prone to being controversial, than it does to review the subforums which tend to be magnets for controversy and, thus, require closer attention.

FB,

I think that is clearly one of the reasons behind the light traffic - there isn’t anyone available to query or by whom to be queried, no one with whom to engage in dialogue or debate. jbjwstar is the first Witness whom I’ve encountered posting here; only 6 members list it as their faith and 4 of those have never posted.

As a consequence, more threads here tend to focus on “JWs are coming to my door, how do I deal with them?” than on matters of theological or doctrinal substance.

I would like to see it remain open in that know of JWs (that will not reveal their identity on this board) who do read this forum and then contact our apostolate anonymously. However, should the forum close, it is okay with me if you guys would want to link to our website and threaded discussion board at

Please do not close this sub-forum!! I haven’t had much time to read the entries or post any replies or comments yet, as I have really just joined. This is absolutely fascinating stuff - I never knew such things went on!! I have been reading as much as I can and would like to know more and post my feelings about the issues of the JW’s.

God bless,

OOOPS!!! I CLICKED YES, INSTEAD OF NO!!!

oh, well.

i think it’s a good subforum. It’s interesting to read, and it organises the large and sometimes cluttery non-catholic religions forums.

If the main purpose of the subforum is so Catholics can discuss JW’s then I think it should probably stay open.

If we are hoping to reach out to JW’s who come to this site so that they would learn about our faith - discuss their beliefs etc. then I think it should be closed. Most of the topics on this subforum have to do with how to get rid of JW’s & how they are so wrong. If I were I JW and I stumbled onto this site it would only take me about 5 minutes to realize that Catholics don’t like JW’s & I would probably leave. If there wasn’t a JW sub forum, chances are pretty good there might not be any threads running that talk about the JW’s so I’d be more likely to stick around - espcially at the water cooler which is sort of light hearted and fun. Then maybe, in time I’d become more comfortable & want to learn more about the Catholic Faith. What I’m trying to say is… if we want JW’s to check us out then having a sub forum so noticable like this that mainly talks about how wacky they are probably isn’t a good idea.
