Equal dignity here means having to accept as good homosexual acts and same sex marriage. The law shouldn’t reflect that because those are grave sins and injustices.
From Vatican II:898 "By reason of their special vocation it belongs to the laity to seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and directing them according to God’s will. . . . It pertains to them in a special way so to illuminate and order all temporal things with which they are closely associated that these may always be effected and grow according to Christ and maybe to the glory of the Creator and Redeemer."431
899 The initiative of lay Christians is necessary especially when the matter involves discovering or inventing the means for permeating social, political, and economic realities with the demands of Christian doctrine and life. This initiative is a normal element of the life of the Church:

- The apostolate in the social milieu, that is, the effort to infuse a Christian spirit into the mentality, customs, laws, and structures of the community in which one lives, is so much the duty and responsibility of the laity that it can never be performed properly by others.
Laymen should also know that it is generally the function of their well-formed Christian conscience to see that the divine law is inscribed in the life of the earthly city;
Catholics and Catholics will never agree on Catholicism. There are vast rifts within the faithful as to their understanding of what Catholicism is, and should be. In the last few days, on this forum alone, we have had several “Catholics” anathemize Pope Francis over the death penalty issue.Catholics and Protestants will never agree on Christianity. So, how can it become a Christian nation if it is divided?
I have faith that Jesus’ prayer will be answered. That we will all be one.Reconciliation is not going to occur, and there will be an eventual formal parting of ways.
And I thank God for that every day. Different Christians have radically different ideas of what Christian values are and what a Christian nation should be. Even different Catholics have wildly different ideas.But we are not a Christian nation. We are a multi religious and non religious nation.
I don’t know how to break this to you …the US were a medieval nation, yes.
The US is a nation in 2017 so no.
