Probably not the case for the rosary—which developed as an alternative to the Liturgy of the Hours for those who had neither the education nor time to devote to prayer that those in religious life had.It is not to say that the devotions would not exist but would the lay faithful have knowledge of them as we do today if it were not for private/public revelations? Otherwise only a select few in religious orders may have practiced them today.
In any event, if not those devotions, something else would have sprung up —people wanting to pray is relatively ubiquitous.
