Per 1 Cor 11, should women pray with a headcovering? If she does not, is her head dishonored as the Apostle tells us?
brotherwolf:This used to be the case back in the 50s and 60s. Hats or lace veils for women and girls were the norm. My mother always carried a chaplet (?) (small circular lace veil) in her purse in case she should have to go into church. Sometime during the 70s this practice stopped. I don’t know if this came about officially or if it was part of the wholesale throwing of the baby out with the bathwater that went on after Vatican II.
About the only time I see it now is if I go to an Adoration chapel. I suspect that these are simply very pious women. I don’t have a feeling on this one way or the other. Hats were very common business attire for men back then. The only men I see wearing dress hats in my area are a few attorneys and I think they do this only to make themselves more visible.
