There seem to be no lack of modern day Pharisees on this forum
Wearing something in your head to show reverence is hardly a burden./QUOTE]
I so agree with this! There are so many other gymnastics many (if not most) women go through when getting ready. And there are many other garments women wear that men do not, and most women would not dream of leaving home much less going to church without. If I were to compare the amount of time an effort it takes me to put on a chapel veil with some of these other necessary pieces of clothing, it is the most simple thing I do. It is MUCH easier than tying my shoes.
I think that the chafing comes with the “women must wear hair coverings,” because of the whole code change in 1983. Well, I was a wee tot in 1983 (and a Baptist at that), but one thing that is a disconnect for me is why people want to throw out so many beautiful things? Even the tabernacle, the TABERNACLE, is being shunted to the side so that you really have to look for it (interestingly enough it too is a veiled holy vessel).
All of these signs are powerful witnesses to the world. When I was a young girl in catholic school - still a protestant - the witness of Catholics really spoke volumes to me, there is no doubt about that, but the beauty of the sanctuary, the holyness of the mass, the tabernacle right in the center - though I didn’t know why they all were witnessess to the glory of the God that we worship, and the reality, the utter reality of the REAL PRESENCE. That the veil is a sign of the angels in not something to be lightly brushed aside. At least in my Baptist fellowship, angels were something that occurred in the Bible on rare occasions, and really weren’t something that we thought about. My point is that all of these signs are not just for the wearer, or the Catholic in the pew - they are witnesses to the reality that the God that we serve has kept his promise to be with us ALWAYS, and he is really there in every Catholic sanctuary, and the angles are there praising him, the King of Glory, and we are all there together praising him.
I’m sorry - I’m not sure I understand your statement? There seem to be no lack of modern day Pharisees on this forum
Very beautifully said!!lizaanne;4060822:

You have become personally insulting. Such vicious, cowardly and untrue accusations should lead to a dozen calls for your removal from this thread. I have no need or calling to look into your version of truth. (For the record, I’ve studied Canon Law in depth under the direction of two canon lawyers who are, first and foremost, priests.) Please save such ugly personal attacks for people who can see you face to face. That would eliminate the “cowardly” aspect. Here is a “liberal catholic” being described by the theologian Scheeben; from A Manual Of Catholic Theology, Based On Scheeben’s “Dogmatik” Joseph Wilhelm, D.D., PHD. And Thomas B. Scannell, D.D.
Concil, III, 232:
This describes you…does it not?

P.S.
I notice you didn’t address this one, catherina…are you afraid to look…or don’t you care what the scriptures say. It is the basis for the 1917 CIC, btw.![]()
I think you have proven that you are free to offer your opinion even when it is in oppostion to what the Church considers to be a standard. It’s encouraging that you realize your words are in contradiction to what you say is no longer a Church “rule.” I hope you will offer some very special prayers for the Catholics in China - priests who risk their lives to offer Mass and women who are thankful to attend underground Mass whether they are able to cover their heads or not. (No offense to your grandmother.)I think the only thing this thread has…proven is that some women don’t think its necassary to wear a veil…some mistakenly think its something about equality…others don’t want to use it because they say it doesn’t matter whats on the head but in the heart…Others just don’t want to be told what to do
Personally…i think if women truly are reverand and humble as they say they are they should use a veil…DOES IT HURT! DOES IT BURN YOUR HEAD!
mr grandma…God bless her!..has always worn a veil to church…even if her “friends” don’t
She knows it’s not a rule anymore…she knows that other women can be just a humble and reverand as her…but she knows who it is that she looks up to at Mass…it is her Lord lifted for worship!
Alex, you have made a very uncharitable accusation. You’re always quick to try to silence dissent, aren’t you, Catharina?
I agree.I don’t know about anyone else, but I feel like this bickering is derailing the original post. I have seen this happen to countless threads. Why don’t we try to steer back towards responding to the OP.
Please enlighten me, hair is erotic? But a kleenex will suffice to ensure modesty, even though the hair is not covered?
Well - I’m 43, I’m not a grandma, not even a mom, and I cover my head at every single Mass and at adoration. And I’m far from some out of touch, fashion challenged fuddy-duddy. Shame on her for trying to poison you with such feminist and totally out of touch statements and assumptions about the Church and others.I considered wearing head coverings. I asked a woman maybe in her forties about it and she told me that the head coverings were for really old ladies. I was also told that I would be veiwed as mentally “challenged” for wearing one(I am in my late 20’s)She gathered other Catholic co-workers to tell me that the head coverings are not necessary and that those were the days of our grandmas. I am pretty new to the church and didn’t start my RCIA classes. So I am confused. My mother was no help in the situation and said I was being a fanatic or extremist. I think the decision is to be a personal one.

Such “clergy” are not involved in offering the Mass in hiding and in union with Rome. One cannot speak to their final end since they are still alive.Actually, while there are plenty of persecuted Catholics in China, there are also clergy who have made astonishing compromises with the tyrants in Beijing who have been treated by Rome in a way that contrasts fascinatingly with Lefebvre.
Wear the scarf, hat, mantilla, bandanna, beenie, turban, whatever …Don’t let those crabby so-n-so’s fill your brain with such drivel.I promise you this…if stocking caps became the absolute-must-have-fashion accessory then everybody and their dog would be wearing one…even to church. At which time we may need to re-visit this issue.I considered wearing head coverings. I asked a woman maybe in her forties about it and she told me that the head coverings were for really old ladies. I was also told that I would be viewed as mentally “challenged” for wearing one(I am in my late 20’s)So I am confused.
