Should you wear your rosary?

Some are also wearing it for protection…no harm in that.
I lent a friend who is non-religious a rosary, and I told her she shouldn’t wear it around her neck. I think it was probably for the better, as she, at that time, didn’t fully understand the purpose of the Rosary. She merely liked it aesthetically. I’m not sure if she understands it to the fullest, but she isn’t wearing it anyway.

I keep a rosary on my rear view mirror, for several reasons 1) because I’m not afraid to admit to my religion 2) in case I get into an accident of some sort and am incapacitated people will know I am a Catholic and try to contact a priest 3) if I am going somewhere for a long period of time I won’t be without a rosary if I happen to forget to take one from home and 4) to remind me that I do not have to angrily swear at every person who cuts me off.

Is it against Catholic teaching to wear a rosary around one’s neck?
It can be a great tool for evangelization- unless you’re Madonna:D
I wear a rosary ring, and it helps. My brother wraps a rosary around his wrist. Read St. Luois De Montfort’s Secret of the Rosary- I think it would help.

NOT if a) you’re from the “old country” and have a genuine attachment to doing so, which leads to
b.) having a true devotion tot he Rosary, because it is NOT a jewelery fad or a talisman. And
c) if you wear the rosary to show how pious you are, it’s considered vanity.

Rosary bracelets are much less noticable, or I wear my rosary with my scapular - UNDER my clothes.

As catholics we should be praying the rosary at least once a week and work ourselves up to - every day.

If you wear it, you should also pray it.

If you display it on your rearview, you should also pray it.

If you carry it on your person, you should pray it.

If you give it as a gift, you should inform the person of what it is you are giving them, its history or origin (if asked), its significance, how to pray it and its proper use.

We catholics don’t recognize the opportunities to preach and teach when confronted with the situations.

I personally don’t waste any opportunity to pray, preach or teach about my catholic faith to anyone. Even if the person making the comment or asking the question is doing so in a mocking or disdainful way.

Be prepared my catholic brothers and sisters…

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

I have a rosary bracelet that I wear all the time. I wear it because if I’m standing around bored in line or something, I fiddle with it and it reminds me that I can be praying instead of just standing there. It also reminds me to pray when I’m frustrated and I notice it. It just would be the same effect if I carried it in my purse or even in my pocket.

It’s against the law in the State of Illinois to hang ANYTHING on your rear-view mirror. I just keep mine in my pocket. 😃

All good reasons, especially this one! 😛 👍 (I have a bumper sticker in my back window which motivates me to drive courteously…)

I would not wear a rosary as a necklace – it just feels irreverent to me. However, when my DD (2 years old) wears hers, I find it endearing. 😉

That’s what I do… but I don’t own a car. It’s probably a good thing that they don’t allow you to hang anything from you mirror in Illinois… I was nearly run over by a semi in your state.

😃 Hey it works for me, I put it up after Father’s homily on keeping religious medals and such around you as good reminders.

I’ve seen necklaces that are made to look like a rosary, they’re made in gold. Are these against the faith? I would think anyone who would invest a few hundred into them is wearing them because they have faith in it’s meaning and would like to show it to others, not out of pride, but as a way to open a line of communication to evangelize.

As for the real rosary as a necklace, it depends on the persons intent. I know some moms who put it on their children so they can think more about God. They also wear the saint bracelets, rosary bracelets, etc.

Many Christians wear the cross, so why would we question wearing the rosary?

Welcome to the club 👍

My answer? yes and no.

Something I heard recently was, it doesn’t really matter if you wear it or not, because the actual rosary beads don’t have significant meaning. It’s the praying that does, the rosary is basically just a tool for someone to keep track at where they are.

I kind of like the idea of wearing it…but I refrain from doing so, even though I do not personally pray the rosary. There is other religious jewelry out there that one can wear and that’s made for wearing.

In a way it doesn’t seem proper for a person to wear the rosary. Maybe just keep it in a little purse/box… 🙂

I have a choir member who wears a rosary all the time. She is very prayerful and reverent, and I believe is a member of one of our Rosary societies at our parish.

The church we attend has plastic rosaries in the missal “pockets” in the back of the pews–by the end of Liturgy my three year old usually has two around his neck and one stuffed surreptitiously in his pocket. He’s not irreverent–he will hold the crucifix and tell us “that’s Son of God” and makes us kiss Jesus. 😃

Aw, how wonderful! 😃 We have one on my DD’s carseat. She doesn’t understand what it is yet (to her it’s just pretty beads), but she does wave to the picture of Jesus in the Divine Mercy that’s between the visors in the front of the car! 😃

I guess I just feel like if I wore my Rosary it would be irreverent because it would be like I’m “showing” it off, you know? :o It’s hard to describe…I am not ashamed of it, but it just doesn’t feel like a necklace to me, you know? I do, however, where a cross often. 🙂

At a younger age, I used to wear my rosary when ever i was scared. It would keep the monsters away… later, i was taught that rosaries weren’t meant to be necklaces so i don’t do it anymore. I wear a simple crucifix. But i’d say there’s nothing wrong with people wearing them around their necks if it keeps them reminded of being a good Catholic. So long as it’s not for vainity it should be fine 🙂 I’ve have no qualms about hanging rosaries at the headpost of my bed, room door or in the car.

I also have nothing against wearing rosary rings or rosary bracelets which were meant for those purposes. If a rosary necklace was made specifically for people to wear them and pray them, i’d be ok to wear it.

I keep one hanging there for many reasons, too: to thank God I have a car and count my blessings beefore I turn the car on (kind of like buckling your safety belt before you put the keys in the ignition.)

I I have several rosary CDs when I drive, so I like to see it and although I cannot touch it, I am comforted when I pray along.

I touch it when I get into the car to pray for protection and ask God ith the three “Hail Mary” beads for good reaction time, safely after I touch it when there is a “near miss” to an accident.

I pray three Hail Mary’s when I see a funeral or an ambulance go by, (along with the “Eternal Rest” prayer, I pray when I touch it to see if I should stop to help a broken-down motorist, and I touch it (and make the sign o the cross often , too) to give thanks that I made it to my destinaton safely.

It’s my lifeline to Jesus through Mary, even / especially when driving.
