This is my daily reader, a thinline RSV Catholic Edition from Oxford University Press.

It is leather bound with zippered closure. I love the stitching and the fact that the zipper pull is a miraculous medal. I’ve added two ribbons to save my place - one red for the Old Testament and one white for the New Testament. I had to cut the ribbons short because the ends got caught in the zipper. There are very few notes, no maps, etc. No frills, just the text.

This is an amazingly rugged yet beautiful Bible. I tend to be rough on things and the zippered closure is a blessing for travel or just throwing it in the back seat of the car. This one has been used every day for years. I’ve never seen another one in person and can only find black online.

Oxford University Press has it here

So many beautiful bibles. I love the wooden case of the OP (i think it was the OP’s) and I love that simple but beautiful brown leather binding on yours.

I’m not sure why but I’ve always favored brown leather over black, for the most part. It just seems so much more honest, lol. That doesn’t make any sense I don’t think.

That looks like a well loved and used Bible; thanks for teaching Catechism.
Mary.

I love this! Take it to the beach, throw it in the trunk…

When you die and meet Jesus, he is going to pull this Bible out, put it in front of you and be like, “Dude… you rock!”

That’s my refrigerator magnet.

This thread gave me Bible-envy. Now I want a fancy leather-bound Bible with pictures for Christmas  😦

I’m using the NAB Revised Ed.

Here is most of my collection, along with my $1.99 leather-bound 1949 Douay-Confraternity bible that was waiting for me at a Goodwill store. One feature that has been lost from newer bibles: the prayer to the Holy Spirit before (and after) reading the scriptures. Why is that?

Please post links to big images and not these huge ones that distort the page and cause it to load slowly for others.
Thanks.

Here are a couple of my bookshelves, one has most of my Church Fathers commentaries and the smaller one has some of my Bibles and various writings.

What a wonderful library COPLAND. That would be a wonderful place to sit, read and contemplate every now and then.👍

From Left to Right:

The RSV-2CE is my favorite for referencing if I’m not quite sure on something in the older translations.

The Jerusalem Bible has awesome notes, and the translation reads nicely.

The TAN Books Douay-Rheims was a gift from my confirmation sponsor Melissa when I was confirmed in 97. If I had to get rid of every Bible but one, this would be the one to keep for sentimental reasons (even if I’d prefer to keep the Confraternity for the translation)

The Knox is a student edition from 1954, with a plastic cover (the binding was taped, except where the title was). Found online for a whopping $20 for the tightest binding of them all (including the new RSV-2CE). Because of the ****** cover, this would be the first to send for re-binding (though I might just replace it with a Baronius Knox for the single-column readability instead).

The PJ Kennedy Douay-Rheims was my great uncle Carl’s bible, given to me by my grandmother. It’s dated 1914. It stays on the shelf due to its age and fragility, but would be the second Bible I would have re-bound if I ever do.

Tne New Catholic Bible is a CPBC Confraternity from 51, with the Pius XII psalms translation (the most recent add to the collection). If I didn’t have a sentimental attachment to my confirmation gift Bible, this would be the one I’d keep if I could only keep one.

Not pictured:

A couple of Children’s Bibles for the kids.

My wife’s New American Bible (from her confirmation). I’ve offered to get her a newer, better (in both condition and translation quality) Bible, but she declines, saying she only needs one. She also keeps asking me how many I need as well - I wonder if she’s trying to tell me something?!?!?

Brand new Douay-Rheims with Challoner New Testament from St. Benedict Press.

It lists for $54.99 but I got it from Adoremus Books via the Barnes & Noble marketplace for about $35 + shipping.

It is genuine leather but appears to have a glued binding. The binding is very disappointing given the list price. I definitely will not be putting prayer cards inside this Bible. It just doesn’t feel as much like a fine Bible as I had hoped it would. I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with it but I’m left wondering if I shouldn’t have ordered the “premium ultrasoft” instead.

I can already tell that my zippered leather thin-line RSV-CE from Oxford University Press will remain on my kitchen counter as my daily reader. Still, I’m really really looking forward to reading this. I’ve already peeked at the first lines of 1 John. John’s first letter always moves my heart and my fear was that it would read archaic and dry. That is definitely not the case.

And I’ve never had a red-letter Bible. Now I can whip this out when I’m hanging out with my Evangelical and Baptist friends and they won’t laugh at me. 😃

The first one I was given, was in a Catholic school but one of those tiny little Gideons jobs;

Also, a TEV New Testament, Red Hardback, but I can’t find an exact image for the one I have:shrug:

I don’t have anything to match the beauty of your Bible, but I’m trying to make up for the lack of quality with quantity.
That’s me! I have a NRSV women’s devotional Bible, a paperback New Jerusalem I got in RCIA last year, the burgundy Ignatius Press one, the New Catholic Answer Bible NAB, and for Christmas I got myself a black, NABRE leather Bible.
