I am sure this will be severely anti-Catholic…I hope it doesn’t spread any falsehoods about our religion…this is a problem that happened a few years ago and it is time to heal…not reopen the wounds…I am sure there will be heavy spin on this story and it will be severely anti-Catholic…let us hope and pray for an factually accurate movie. This will just add fuel to the fire of anti-Catholicism.

Well since they want to go there why not finish it and bring up the computer image child porn that is legal:mad: Planned parenthood aiding child molesters:mad: The fact that most molesters are married with children:mad: And the deliberate ignoring of child molesters that get caught in protestant churches:mad: How about the ACLU protecting NAMBLA who distribute blueprints legally on how to suduce and molest children:mad: ARGHHHHH!!!

Yes all other religions, and all sectors of life should be examonied as well. However, it will be with the open discussion of the church scandals that it will be resolved as well. The culture of clericalism and secrecy within the ranks of the priesthood and other higher up’s must end. Some priests still are in fantasy land thinking that all the bad never really happened that it is all lies!! WAKE UP FATHERS. Also, they have to recognize that there must be boundaries, and they too are HUMAN. Why some still think they are gods puzzles me.

I was wondering if anyone here on the forums will be watching this? I would like to hear a review of how the movie was(from one of “us”) , although I have a pretty good idea of how they will portray the Church. :nope: I don’t subscribe to Showtime or I would volunteer.

Actually, the possession of child pornography is a FEDERAL OFFENSE and you will do some SERIOUS JAIL TIME for the possession of it…

I hate to be the one to tell you this but over a year ago under the freedom of speech:nope: If the child is a computer image and not a real child it is LEGAL:mad: I am serious, unfortunately:crying:

I am going to record it on my DVR…I will watch it as soon as I get a chance, and let everyone know what I think.

Then if the “child” is a computer image, it’s not a child and it wouldn’t be pornography, it would called… “art”… and I use the term VERY, VERY, LOOSELY…

However, Federal Law says that pornographic photos of REAL CHILDREN are a FEDERAL OFFENSE and you will do MAJOR JAIL TIME FOR POSSESSION OF IT… at least that whay my godson, the FBI agent tells me…

I watched a special on the making of this movie. I only got a sense of the movie itself. I think we should be very careful to distinguish between people attacking Holy Mother Church and people criticising individual members of the same. It is possible to criticize Cardinal Law’s (or any other bishop’s) handling of the scandal, and certainly possible to criticize the actual predators themselves, and still remain faithful and and obedient Catholics.

Well I just do not buy the technacalities in that situation, even computer image children will polute and encourage abhorant behavior.I would question the sanity of anyone who would even think about creating such a thing:eek: :nope:

I totally agree with that statement. I would just hate for this to be another opportunity for Catholic-Bashing, that’s all:(

I have no intention of wasting my time nor contributing to such trash!

I think that - to be fair - after the show there should be some sort of televised discussion that includes faithfull catholics. In my opinion it is absolutely acceptable to be offended and outraged by the acts of pedophile priests and those that covered up their crimes, but still remain loyal to the Faith. It is not the Faith that is flawed, but the men who twisted it for their own evil ends.

Yeah, I’ve thought about this off and on all day. If they go off on celibacy and how we could have avoided all this if we’d just have a married priesthood or ordain women or not teach against homosexuality (I think they would call it repression or oppression), then that’s an attack on the Church. I also think they better cut JPII some slack. They seem to think that the Popes micromanage the Church, which they don’t.

I watched the movie. It seemed to stick to the facts, as far as I can tell about what happened in Boston. There was a lot about Cardinal Law and his cover-up.
I couldnt watch the parts where the priests were alone with the boys, I had to change the channel a few times. I think priests raping children or molesting is one of the most horrible things I can think of.
I grew up in Omaha Ne, and Father Daniel Herek is now in prison for molesting boys in parishes there. He was first out of the seminary in my parish. That was in the 1970’s.
Priests have been molesting boys, and some girls too for over 40 or 50 years, or longer. Thank God for the men and boys who were strong enough to come forth, and please pray for them, and for the ones who have committed suicide. Thank God it is only a small minority of priests, but I am afraid there could be more than we know. Many people left the church because of how the victims and their families were treated. The cover-up in many parishes, and the priests just being passed around makes me sick.

I saw the show. Apart from being appalled that virtually everyone other than Pope John Paul and the Cardinal swore with abandon, my only other reaction was one of sorrow. I was left with the impression of how broken we all are and how Christ’s Heart must be wrung with pity for His children. It enabled me to forgive Cardinal Law for what I percieved to be the harm he did to the Church, so I’m glad I watched it. We need to hold up both the victims and the predators before the Crucified Christ. I don’t think this movie attacked Holy Mother Church per se.

Actually…I will say this, and I may get flamed…I watched it…I have it recorded, and I must say it was pretty close to an accurate portrayal of the situation…granted there were a “few” minor cheap shots, but overall, I thought it was fairly accurate and did not just go on a bashing rampage…I thought they dealt with the problem, but I found it lacking at the end…I thought there was more to be told, however they stopped right at Cardinal Law’s resignation…there is much more to tell…they could have even taken it to the modern day in the Catholic Church…overall…I reccomend it…As a Catholic watching it, I know what happened…it is tragic, but I LOVE our Church and I know this heinous crime was committed by a few sick individuals…however, I am not sure an outsider can watch it with the same perspective…it may just add fuel to an anti-Catholic fire…Lets hope it doesn’t.

I agree…I actually felt bad for him…if what the show portrayed was the truth, he actually was remorsefull for his indifference…like he said, he was always trying to see the best in his priest and hoping they would would revert back to Christ and change…
