No, Shrek two was/is NOT appropriate for my children.

There. Fixed that sentence for you.

mlchance, no need to fix my sentence. It’s not appropriate for little kids to watch a cartoon character rub his genitalia, or a cartoon character lick it’s butt.

as a person who has watched both films more than once
1 Pinocchio is not doing anything more disturbing than a very short dance in the style of Michael Jackson

Grabbing one self in public is bad manners and disgusting behavior. Be it a fairy tale character or a real live person.

2 The ‘dude’ at the bar is one of Cinderellas ugly Stepsisters and although voiced by a man (Jonathan Ross) is definitely a woman

Strange they used a man’s voice, looked like a woman dressed as a man to me, who kissed Prince Charming.
Ok, so you don’t want your kids to see it and thats your right but if it is showing in a Public place there is nothing you can do, you can’t have kids live in a bubble or when they go out in the world they are in for a huge shock. No, its not the greatest of all shows and if you don’t want your kids to watch it, so be it but for those who don’t mind their kids seeing it, whatever, my kids saw it once and they probably understood less than half of it and they were not overly into it and they really don’t care to see it again, I watched it with them as I do view most of their movies with them and I have found that for us and our family, its better to let them see Shrek and be over it and say, ok, we saw it than have them wonder what its about or go to a friends house and have them hot to see it, now they saw it with a parent, we can discuss it as a family and they don’t care to see it again, to each his own 👍

You mean we haven’t come to “Parenting by majority opinion” in this country yet? What about Hillary Clinton’s “It takes a village to raise a child”? Who knows better how to raise your kids than the consensus of all of us, particularly the most vocal.
Good one :clapping: :yup: :bounce:

I saw *Shrek *(the original) and hated every ******* moment of it. The knights being clobbered by an ogre, the princess turning into a monster at the end, the constant snide references to sex, Michael Eisner, and, as Calvin would say, “disgustink body vunktions”, and then, to cap it all a DRAGON saves the day at the end by devouring Farquaad and then shattering every last stained-glass window in the church. A classic example of symbol inversion run amok if ever there was one.

your just being stupid about this. and whiny.

…and you are behaving in an extremely rude manner.
im just sitting here laughing because you complained about the making fun of short people and about the woman turning into an ogre. you didnt say jack about the sexual references and gross humour.

and by the way, do we have to start making threads about every movie that comes out saying whether or not its a kids movie? in the end its up to the parents to let them see it or not.

I agree that Shrek 1 and 2 are not movies strictly for children. On the other hand, there are in jokes that only the children like and there is a lot of adult humour that made both movies into something that was absolutely hilarious.

Personally, I did not think that either movie was smutty. Also, I really do dislike like the references to personal body odours, however, most children would get that kind of reference.

I cannot understand why anyone would think that either movie was having a go at fat people. Princess Fiona is an ogre, and Shrek fell in love with the ogre. I thought that Puss in Boots was extremely funny, especially when he was doing all that purring.

Are these movies suitable for my children? Well, yes, seeing that my sons are adults and they were the ones who introduced me to watching Shrek.

BTW I also loved ANTZ

I think the movie was rated PG. Try to be careful with those PG movies as they may not be suitable for the little ones. My girls are 12 and 14 and we all (including my husband) like the Shrek movies.

Sometimes our little forum here really cracks me up…

At first I thought this thread was tongue in cheek until I realized C4L was really insulted.

Then Mark L. gets worked up over someone expressing their opinion in so forceful a manner that he feels if he doesn’t change it he’ll have no choice but to follow it within his family.

Finally young Mycroft comes in, finds someone he disagrees with, and adds to the discussion by telling them they’re being stupid.

And we learn a new word; “onager;” can’t wait to try it out.

Thanks guys

Says you, and, not to be insulting, but the last time I checked, you weren’t in a position of authority over either me or my children. So, you raise your children your way, and let other people have the courtesy to raise their children without having to listen your condemnation.

How you raise your children is YOUR business. However, I will state my opinion.
You don’t like it too bad. There is an IGNORE feature, use it if you are so offended by an opinion.

Ok, so you don’t want your kids to see it and thats your right but if it is showing in a Public place there is nothing you can do, you can’t have kids live in a bubble or when they go out in the world they are in for a huge shock

Alright, I will take my 12 year old to Hooters to show him the “real world”. I might as well show my 7 year old daughter an R rated movie so she’s not in for a worse shock. BTW my children watched the movie but I stand by my OPINION, something SOME people around here can’t handle an OPINION.
Sorry folks, it’s not a matter of the “real world”. It’s a matter that a movie which was marketed towards young children,in the form of breakfast cereals and soaps, is not appropriate for them. If they cut out the crotch rubbing, cross dressing, and butt licking out it would have been better.
My opinion, again.

Like I tell my children, opinions are like armpits, everyone has one…

No, Shrek two was/is NOT appropriate for children. Especially when they asked Pinochio if he was wearing women’s underwear, and Pinochio in the end is dancing and rubbing his genetalia.
Also, I think the dude at the bar dressed as a woman was a strange thing, for children to watch, and the dude at the bar kissed prince charming in the end.
Funny for me, but not appropriate for little kids…
Sorry, but the way you worded that is why people get upset, you said it is was/is not appropriate for children that is you did not state it like this" NO, shresk tow was/is not appropriate for children in my opinion and I would not want my kids to see it again etc. That is where you made it a statement for all children not just yours, so if your going to make that statement then add the word “In my opinion” then people will understand that your stating just your opinion. ok! 🙂

I thought the movies were great fun and particularly enjoyed the ending of Shrek 2 where they did not opt for the lets be physically beautiful and live happily ever after ending but chose to remain their true ogre selves. The king was still loved even after he was turned back to a frog too,re-enforcing the message that love is not conditional on being beautiful
I personally had not seen Shek 2 more than once so I could not comment on Lily’s analysis. After garfield’s description, I vaguely remember the scenes.

But I think this exemplifies my point. Adults watch those scenes and put adult meanings. Kids watch it and see someone dancing and an ugly woman.

The woman’s underwear? That is completely a “silly” humor for a child. It is not until we get older that any other notion would occur. For example, my three year old said when we went shoe shopping. He pointed to all the girls pink shoes and said, “Those are berry girly shoes”. He would also catch the underwear and think it was funny, because “those aren’t boys underwear, those are girls. That’s silly.”

That does not mean I think we should plop our kids down in front of MTV.

I have seen Shrek 1 multiple times. I still believe it is a great movie for the whole family we all enjoyed.

God Bless,
Maria

personally i think everyone could use a few people telling them their stupid. 😉

I apologize for the way I worded my sentence. Let me put it this way, in my opinion Shrek two is more suitable for adults. The humor seems to be geared towards adults rather than children.
My children watched the movie more the once and I told them how I felt about it.
In my opinion, “Babe 1”,“Finding Nemo”, and “Ice Age” are more appropriate movies for children.

Would you watch it if Jesus were sitting there with you? What Disney movie would you watch with Him?
