Honestly, if I were evaluating the Holy Shroud before the advent of photography, I would have been a skeptic. Anyone Medieval artist created this magnificent cloth to deceive his contemporaries would have been scoffed at. Yes, there have always been suckers, but to fool THEM, the intricate detail found therein would have been unnecessary. 🙂 Rob
The sketches of it from the Medieval period show no such "brilliance". I suppose that for those expecting to see nothing but a plain yellowed shroud, the image might have been striking and "brilliant", but years ago, expecting a mighty spectacle, I was surprised to find that to the naked eye, the Holy Shroud is dull and disappointing.:rolleyes:
