Shroud of Turin Displayed for 1st Time in 10 Years

The Shroud of Turin went on public display Saturday for the first time in 10 years, drawing long lines of people to see the linen some believe is Christ’s burial cloth and others dismiss as a medieval fake.

I was puzzled when I read;

Wouldn’t the cloth have supernatural protection from God?

Supernatural protection sure would be nice for any holy relic. If that were so we’d still have the cross Jesus was crucified on and many other things. Some of the things that have happen to the Shroud; it was damaged in a fire, has water damage, and smoke damage. Just some general information, there is a really big business in relics, going all the way back to the medival times and further. Even today, ancient items are a big business and also a blackmarket business that goes into the millions of dollars. As a side item, the History channel has an excellent show on the Shroud of Turin and does an excellent job of presenting both sides. The show concludes with…actually you should watch it!

So why the bullet proof glass and temperature controlled case? It seems that God give special protection to Holy relics…

i wish i could afford a ticket to fly over and see the display (although with the volcanic ash right now, not sure if i could).

i am fascinated by the Shroud of Turin and the history behind it. i would like to believe that it is the actual burial shroud of Jesus.

I once knew a guy who thought he was witty, yet each and every time he attempted a witticism, it was met with uncomfortable and awkward silence. Hear that sound…that is “uncomfortable and awkward silence”.

Does that “cloak with the image of our Lady of Guadalupe” have a more formal name… or would that be it??

I was trying to find the name of it a few months back and never came across it.

I remember being told that if you look in her eye, there’s an EXACT replica of the image, but upside down and obviously small enough to fit in the image of her eye.

Definitely want to know more about that, too.

I happened to be in Europe in 1998, and I found out the Shroud was going to be displayed - I made sure I went to see it. It was quite something to see. I was much more familiar with the photographic negative image, and the cloth itself is much more understated, but also very moving. The display included a slideshow or video, no narraration or anything but just pointing out the different images and features on the cloth. I don’t recall the exhibit or the video making any explicit claim one way or the other about the origin of the Shroud.
