I’m frustrated and depressed in my life now. I’m 25 going to be 26 soon living with my mom never had a girlfriend before or don’t have many friends. I’m working in a warehouse have to deal with annoying people daily I went to a tech school for graphic design and animation I send tons of applications to interns and other jobs with no luck. They want experience or some other reason. arhhhhh:mad:

I’m not going to give you advice, which is tough because I love telling people what’s good for them.

Just to let you know that I’ll say a prayer for you now.

Today’s mass readings might speak to you. Here’s a link

ewtn.com/devotionals/inspiration.asp#12

So tomorrow is a new day - each morning is a fresh start to make goals and live fruitfully - no matter what circumstances may be troubling you. There is beauty and goodness to be found in every day

Seeking blessings for you.

🙂

Could you create an on line profolio. Something that will grab the attention of the masses. YT, FB, post here in your profile, etc. This will help your day as you will have something constructive to look forward too, keep your mind engaged when you are working and provide you with hope. You will be remembered in my prayers.

Tomorrow is another day! Never doubt that God has plans for you, but you have to meet him half-way by finding yourself in the process. If you’re not happy with your life, then look for things that can potentially make you happier. 🙂

I was 31 When I got married. I was 26, almost 27 when I got a decent job. Keep at it. Things will change. :gopray2:

It’s a rough economy out there, so don’t feel alone. Many other people feel as you do.

FWIW, one of my good friends in a graphic designer. He ended up doing all sorts of odds and ends to get experience for several years, and even had to take on some non-related work in the meantime. His diligence paid off; he’s making about $120K right now. Do whatever you can to get experience, even if it means simply sitting home, designing projects, and putting them up on a website you designed yourself.

RE: friends/girlfriends. It’s like Murphy’s Law. If you force the issue, you’ll have no friends. If you don’t, you will. Find some things you enjoy doing and do them. Go to Church, go jog on the beach (or wherever people jog in your area), take a walk around the neighborhood, go to a gym or exercise class etc. Basically, just get out there and let life happen, and you’ll have your friends in no time. Just don’t sit home and pout…that just creates depression.

Suggestion: volunteer or donate your design and animation skills to charities, churches, schools etc.

This would help boost your portfolio.

It’s amazing where volunteering can take you.👍

Didn’t know people like that existed! I wish I had the answers to situations like yours, why God doesn’t make it happen, make you run into someone from high school who knows someone who’s looking for a graphic designer etc. “God is watching us from a distance” has seemed to be his way of dealing with me and many around me. But I digress. I’ve always been unassertive, shy, basically apologizing for existing, one day I was chatting with a coworker who had landed a better job elsewhere, he was more the confident, cocky, go-getter. So I asked him how he did it. He said he’dsent many resumes within a short period. So i said, like once a week for a couple of weeks? He said no, three resumes on three consecutive days! You’re stuck in a rut right now, may I suggest you move energetically to remove yourself from it. Offer a company to work for free for two weeks and see if you’re good enough, think outside the box. You owe it to yourself to not rot in a job you hate with less than stellar people around. If you’re persistent and keep praying and hoping for God’s assistance, a positive outcome cannot fail to occur. So I get that you did well in school, are good at learning and are competent in something you love? I’d saw my right leg to be in that position.

I know what you mean. I feel like a loser with no friends and no career.

I do love being a SAHM but I do need a job so we can be more stable instead of barely getting by. I do get so down with every interview that leads to nothing. or no interviews at all ya know. I do know I have to work for it but right now my baby is teething her molars so it feels like she is super clingly and my to do list is neverending.

I know that things will work out if I keep taking each new day and making the most of it ya know.

I just feel like I’m too shy or socially inept to land a good job. I’m not confident and even though I feel like I’m doing better in interviews…I just don’t feel like I’m something someone would want to hire. I can’t communicate well verbally and I’m bad at small talk or opening up.

For years I’ve tired joining groups of all sorts since I do love being around people but I always end up to the side, by myself. I try to talk and say hi to others but then the convo stops… I’m just a loser.

I wish so much better for my daughter. I want her to be confident and know how to talk with people. I would never want her to be as lonely as I am/was. I’m a loner but I don’t wanna be. Her daddy loves being alone and would rather be quiet than to talk with people. I don’t understand that lol

And volunteering is a GREAT way to meet people!

Brother,
my son Brandon is a comic book artist, graphic designer I guess you could call him, and manages to make a living at it.
He left home at 19, lived on the streets in New York, drew all kinds of stuff for a living, and now has his own comic series out. He’s done some animation too. He’s not living as a Christian, so don’t take him as a role model in that, but you might want to check out his blog on wordpress:
Send him an email, ask for suggestions. Draw something and ask him to put it up. He and his friends all got started by drawing constantly. I’d encourage you to have fun at it; they all seem to.

Aw, hon, you’re not a loser!!! You’re an introvert, but wanting to be a little more balanced, probably. Or an internal extrovert that never got encouraged and never got the confidence to reach out to people.

It is so hard to find jobs these days! Employers can pick from an over-qualified group of hungry people who will undercut the other guy for just a chance!

Trust me, raising your little girl is more important than ANY career you will ever have! I know, it doesn’t add anything to the family bank account, but you will see an eternal reward for raising up your children to love the Lord and to be faithful Catholics! Anything else you do is always going to be way down the line in importance to being Mommy! “Her children rise up and call her ‘Blessed!’”

:grouphug:

Lets see at 25 I was just coming off of years of schooling and had temporary jobs that well just weren’t great jobs…stock jobs, temp services, Deli and food prep even some cleaning up after house fires. I finally went to vocational school to land an office job which led me to longer term jobs. When you’re young companies will take advantage of that fact and hire you for less for a shorter term than hiring someone with experience for a longer term period. It was hard back when I was your age can’t imagine how hard it would be today. The job market seems swamped. Just have patience keep trying and never give up.

I agree with those who say volunteer. But set some kind of limit, and make sure that you don’t make volunteering a full-time job–it doesn’t pay enough. 🙂 I would say to volunteer for three months, and THEN try applying for jobs again, this time listing your volunteer experiences and including references from the person who supervised your volunteer work.

Here is a suggestion–apply for housekeeping jobs in the hospitals in your area. Often housekeeping will hire even if there is a freeze on all the other positions. Yes, it’s humble work, but it’s rewarding, and the people who work in housekeeping are usually really friendly. It’s rewarding because often, patients who are lonely or scared will open up with the lady who comes to clean their room, and then you don’t have to talk–just listen! You will earn crowns in heaven for doing this, and in many hospitals you won’t get in trouble for being “behind” on the job if you are helping patients!

Working in a hospital usually means decent wages, and BENEFITS (the magic word these days!). And many hospitals will either PAY for you to go to school to earn a certificate or degree in a field that they need; e.g., PCT (patient care technician, or CNA, which means certified nursing assistant). If they don’t pay, they will re-imburse. It’s a good deal.

Don’t worry about talking to other people. Most people don’t want someone to talk to them–they want someone to LISTEN to them! I suggest that you practice asking a couple of questions that will get others started talking, and then just smile and listen. You will become one of the most popular people in your city! Examples of such questions are, “So tell me about your interests outside of church” or “If someone wants to have a really nice time in our area, where would you recommend they go?” or “I wish I could join a club in the area–do you have any ideas of really nice organizations that I should check out?”

Good luck to you!

Are you not making spiritual progress? That’s how I make it through the day. Probably not the best way…but looking forward to having time to grow with God can’t be too bad lol. I tend to avoid the young adult groups…too many distractions. That’s just me though.

As far as new people, most of them are cradle Catholics and I get some sort of sense of dishonesty…like we’re trying to pretend we aren’t sinners! It’s disconcerting.

I apologize–just noticed I’m mixing up the OP and another poster. But advice in my post could apply to both. 🙂

yea, spiritual progress also makes me happy growing closer to God and also the hobbies I have. Though a particulare addiction to a sin makes it hard I can strive to repent and do it no more I think its also a major factor why i feel this way. Thanks to everyone else and for the advice for volunteer my graphics work. I just need to get out more and hopefully God will open doors of oppurtunity for me! and make me grow
