Good for you, Blest! (I’d like to see their letter to you, too):o

You know, I talked to an Obama supporter today, who I work with. I have been evangelizing at a rapid rate these days at work.:o It is almost like I have no control over my mouth.😊 I talked about this with my boss yesterday, and a few others. Not knowing who they voted for, just saying the facts about abortion.

Well, the Obama supporter really never heard it explained to him like this. I have been using this analogy:

Imagine you are walking outside, and at a nearby park, you see an angry mom or dad, hurting their what seems to be, one month old baby. Then, the abuse gets worse, and it appears like they are trying to murder their baby. Do you do nothing, and keep walking? Do you run to stop them? Do you at least call the police?

His response…I’d run to stop them.:o

I said, that is what the prolife movement is all about. Running to stop women from making the fatal mistake of aborting their babies, and believing that it’s a ‘right.’ It’s not a right.

He paused and I could almost hear a lightbulb click. lol He said, I had never looked at it that way. I don’t think he was blowing smoke, I have known this man for a long time, I think he got it.

I said I don’t blame you for voting for Obama. It’s not my place to judge you, but now that you know, please don’t support this agenda of his. He said, I won’t.

I said, that analogy is no different than an unborn baby, and someone wishing to terminate its life. That unborn baby is a life, and deserves rights just like the one month old I mentioned.

So…we have to keep witnessing this to others. Get creative. But don’t give up. Make the world pro life, one person at a time.👍 And remember Jesus hanging on the cross…when He said…“Forgive them Father, they know not what they do.” I really think that so many people don’t realize what abortion even is, and how they have been fed a big lie about it.

Well, it seems like its going to be easier to convert people outside of the catholic church. Too many catholics even on this forum voted for Obama.

 Dear Mrs. BlestOne:

Thank you for contacting me about the Freedom of Choice Act. I appreciate hearing from you.

I believe abortion should be safe and legal, consistent with Roe v. Wade. It is a decision best left to a woman, her family, her doctor, and her conscience. Late-term abortions, including so-called partial birth abortions, should be strictly limited to cases where the life of the mother is in danger or she faces a medically certified risk of grievous physical injury.

We should encourage abstinence among our youth and support family planning to avoid unintended pregnancies that may lead to abortion. I support the federal family planning program, which provides more than five million women with a wide range of services designed to improve maternal and infant health, lower the incidence of unintended pregnancy, and prevent abortions. This program has a proven record of success. I oppose gag rules that would prevent women from receiving full information about their pregnancy options.

If a woman is confronted with an unintended pregnancy, we should work to ensure that motherhood and adoption are realistic options. I support programs that provide assistance to pregnant women to help them face the costs of continuing a pregnancy. I also favor tax breaks to help families afford adoptions, and I have cosponsored legislation, subsequently enacted into law, that extended and increased the tax credit for adoption expenses.

The Freedom of Choice Act would prohibit any government in the United States from denying or interfering with any woman's rights to choose to bear a child, to terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability, or to terminate a pregnancy after fetal viability when necessary to protect the life or health of the woman.

The measure also prohibits any government in the United States from discriminating against the exercise of these rights in the provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information.

This bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. As a member of this committee, I will keep your views in mind as the measure is considered.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me. Please feel free to stay in touch.

Sincerely,

Durbin just buried a child so keep him in your prayers even though the man is clearly not a christian and needs them even more so.

and here is the conversation with Archbishop Chaput:
Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.,

**I have a question that has been bothering me since the election. I hope you will take the time to answer this question. What can a lay Catholic do if Pres elect Obama does indeed remove restrictions on abortions and in fact uses our tax dollars to subsidize the killing of the innocent lives? My knee jerk reaction is that using my tax dollars makes me party to murder and therefore, the only way to have a clear conscience would be to refuse to pay taxes. Please don’t think this is an attempt to scam the country or anything…. I am a law abiding Catholic that served my country in the armed forces…. I am concerned that using my tax dollars makes me culpable and unless I am willing to take a stand, I am jeopardizing my salvation. I am already distressed because I come from the state that Mr. Obama served and fight as I may… my efforts have yet to change the laws in Illinois where Mr. Obama voted four times to kill infants born alive during the commission of an abortion. **

BlestOne

His reply:
Dear BlestOne,

I don’t know how to respond to your question yet. I haven’t given it that much thought. I think your concern is a good one but let’s wait to see what happens before making any decisions regarding paying or not paying taxes.

May the Lord give you peace.

my reply:
Wow… Honestly… I know you are a busy guy… I am totally impressed and honored that you took the time to reply. I agree that a decision at this point is premature. I guess this gives us both something to think and pray about huh?
Thanks for responding!
BlestOne

and finally… his reply:

Thank you, BlestOne.

of course I changed my name in all the above letters for forum use…

I’d also like to point out that FOCA would remove the laws that protect me as a medical student from having to participate in abortions while being trained. It would remove the laws that protect Ob/Gyn residents from having to participate in abortions while being trained. It would remove the laws that protect Ob-Gyn physicians in hospitals that do abortions from having to participate. It would remove the laws that protect nurses in the Ob-Gyn departments in hospitals from having to participate in abortions. AND it would remove the laws that protect Catholic hospitals from being forced to offer abortions on their medical campuses.

The “Freedom of Choice Act” REMOVES the right for US HEALTHCARE workers from being able to choose and potentially FORCES us to participate in murder! When you’re talking to people, it’s good to point this out.

Oh - and if you look at the example of states that have enacted FOCA-like laws, their abortion rates have gone UP not DOWN.

Things to point out to people who want to make abortion “safe, legal and rare.”

Yikes, that is awfully smug. 😦 Thanks for posting it, Blest. Let’s keep praying that someday, the smugness will subside, and compassion for life and logic for what is right and wrong, will replace it.

And can’t anyone have compassion for a person who just buried their child? I don’t see how we can’t pray for this man considering his child was just buried!

Yesterday after I signed the fightFOCA petition, I further went to Sen. Lindsey Graham’s website and wrote him the following letter:

Dear Senator Graham,

I am writing today regarding a matter that is of great concern to me and my family. As you are, no doubt, aware, President-elect Obama has promised to sign the Freedom of Choice Act (S. 1173) “first thing” upon entering office. I am strongly opposed to this legislation and would like to encourage you to oppose it as well.

I am aware of your pro-life stance on legislation in the past and would like to congratulate you on taking a stand for life. You are doing wonderful work in the Senate Judiciary Committee. You are in a position to help the pro-life cause, which is in trouble with an Obama administration. I sincerely hope you will continue to listen to your pro-life constituency and vote down FOCA.

May God bless you,
chronister4673

As you can see, I made the space in the second paragraph to remind him that I am following his voting record. BLESTONE, in your next letter to Sen. Durban, you might want to remind him that you’re following his voting record and that he is in D.C. on OUR forebearance. HIS BELIEFS DON’T MATTER!! He is there to REPRESENT the wishes of his constituents. If he doesn’t do so, he should be fired when he’s next up for election.

Additionally, if you are blessed enough to have a pro-life Sen/Rep in Congress, MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM THAT THEY’RE DOING A GOOD JOB! They hear about what “horrible, close-minded” people they are plenty enough from the other side. I hope this helps to motivate some of you to write your congressmen/women. They’re there to serve YOU!

Errrrrrrrrrr!!!

Those people get me soooo mad! I went to the website a couple days ago and I clicked to send their message to my senators… which happen to be Durbin and OBama… and as usual, Durbins office sent me the most condescending letter back telling me why I should think like him… so I sent my reply…

*Senator Durbin… *

I truly don’t know what is more aggravating; you telling me how I should think, or the fact that you totally disregard the thoughts and opinions of your constituents. This is not the first time I have received a reply that was arrogant and condescending from your office. I do have a brain of my own and it functions very well thank you!

*I personally believe in the rights of all, which includes babies. I think you are party to nothing less than murder if you support abortion. The right of the mother to choose is a decision that is made BEFORE the sex act not after she finds herself pregnant. How do you protect the most vulnerable in our society? By killing them off??? I don’t think so. What about their right to life? After all, by less than 3 weeks after conception they have their own unique DNA and by 5 weeks after conception, they have blood flowing through their little bodies… human blood! *

There is absolutely no medical value to partial birth abortions… if the mother has a need to not be pregnant; the child can be delivered by c-section or naturally and live at the gestational ages where partial birth abortion is used. At what point is it no longer abortion but murder? Come on now, having a baby birth feet first just so that they can keep the head inside and stick scissors in their brain to kill them… then suction it out… that is MURDER. I don’t need any politician to tell me otherwise.

*I know a lot about your tax breaks for adoption… and that is one area we can come close to an agreement on. I also think health care issues are a moot point. There are already programs in place for single women with no insurance to obtain medical cards if they are pregnant. *

*The freedom of choice act is a death sentence and it isn’t placing the freedom in the right place. That same person was free to decide to engage in sexual intercourse. As I stated earlier, that is when the choice is made. Don’t insult the intelligence of women by placing it elsewhere. We know the possible consequences of our actions and we know them BEFORE the sex act. After the sex act, the decision was already made and if conception occurs, the woman most likely won’t even know until that child has developed DNA and a human blood supply. So when does the rights of that new vulnerable life supersede the selfish desires of the mother? *

*Please don’t ever presume to tell me how I should think again. As you can see, my brain functions quite well and I do have research and science to back up my informed opinion on this subject. *

YOU ROCK.

I have compassion for him, of course. My response is in reference to his letter to Blest. This thread is about FOCA, though, not Durbin’s personal loss. My prayers are with anyone who has had such a terrible loss. 😦

I am not defending Durbin’s position, just to be very clear.
I just think that, somewhere in this letter there should be a mention of the sadness of the child lost. How seriously is he going to take this letter defending life when…

I mean think about it!
Clearly he is not a person with a well formed conscience.
But, he knows what life and death is in his world now.

How can he take this letter seriously in his shoes now?

You all want him to? Great! I do too!

He won’t if he thinks his daughter’s life was meaningless. To “good catholics who defend life”

At least a small mention of his deep loss might be fitting?🤷

And a little less hand slapping and high five’s and hand bumping, or whatever on how great this letter is so far without that small mention?

Haha…I was just getting ready to start a thread on this until I saw this. I signed it. 🙂

What really bugs me about the after fetal viability clause is, you can deliver that child LIVE early if necessary to protect the mother’s life or health!!! THERE’S NO NEED FOR ABORTION!!! AHHHHHH!!!

Bravo!! It made me smile to see you write such a gutsy letter back to the admin. Hurray! 😃

Thanks for the reminder, notsmart - living in Ireland, I didn’t know this. I wish Durbin (and Obama) themselves well, just not their pro-abortion stances. And may Durbin’s little girl rest in peace.

Is there any point in me signing this petition?

The reason I’m asking is because I’m not a citizen. I’ve been living in the US and my kids are citizens, so of course I’m concerned about the direction the country is taking. But technically I don’t have a vote.

So your children I presume are minors… Do you think it is healthy that their social security taxes will have to pay for so many more since 1/3 of all pregnancies end in abortion? If those poor souls were born and raised they would one day pay taxes and alleviate the burden on the rest of us… or how about this: 1/3 of all your children’s potential playmates have been slaughtered by abortion… I think there is a need… how about you???
