For all the noise they make you’d think there were millions more.

For all the stupid, conservative, dismissive Christian opinions being voiced, you’d think we were all idiots… oh wait, people do think that about us! Stop being hateful or dismissive towards people with different beliefs: its in direct conflict with the Christian duty to spread the love of God.

I think you’re reading more into what I said than what I actually intended. What I meant was that there is only a tiny percentage of gay people compared to heterosexuals and yet they are almost always in the news.

I wasn’t meaning to direct it at you! More of a general statement about how I feel Catholics respond to homosexuality in a really negative way.

In the United States anyone suggesting the 1.5% number gets severely criticized.

However, the 1.5% number has appeared in some sources over the years.

It’s not just how you feel. Catholics do respond to homosexuality in a negative way. We don’t hate homosexuals but homosexuality is an extremely destructive thing.

The information was not asked via an anonymous survey, but asked in person or via the telephone.

I think it could reasonably be expected that the survey may under report the number of gay, lesbian or bisexual persons in the UK. Although many persons are proud to identify as a sexual minority, many others will be reluctant to admit that to a stranger, and will instead give the normative answer.

Here is the question which was asked face to face:
Which of the options on this card best describes how you think of yourself?
Please just read out the number next to the description.
27. Heterosexual / Straight
21. Gay / Lesbian
24. Bisexual
29. Other
And here is the question which was asked over the telephone:
I will now read out a list of terms people sometimes use to describe how they think of themselves. (INTERVIEWER: read list to end without pausing.
Note that ‘Heterosexual or Straight’ is one option; ‘Gay or Lesbian’ is one option. )
  1. Heterosexual or Straight,
  2. Gay or Lesbian,
  3. Bisexual,
  4. Other
    (Spontaneous DK/Refusal)
As I read the list again please say ‘yes’ when you hear the option that best describes how you think of yourself.

And, of course, there is the matter of people who honestly identify as heterosexual, yet still engage in same-sex behavior . Many men do not consider themselves gay, despite having sex with other men (particularly if they are the “active” partner.)

Yeah, I don’t know much in denial a self proclaimed STRAIGHT MAN would have to be , but the fact that STRAIGHT MAN have the option of a woman, that’s just hard to believe there are many of those "types’ out there.
Men who still claim to be straight, yet have had sex with other men in the past? I wouldn’t call those men gay either, I’d just call them 'stupid.

Here is the question which was asked face to face:
I still think it’s more accurate, that the 2 percent is true. One side has to be lying, and Gays have more reason to lie. Plus, I’ve heard 10 percent statistic over and over since I was eleven, and this one UK statistic , including a dozen other, say other wise, cuz they’re actual attempts to verify it.
The amount who would lie, probably wouldn’t be that much more to be closer to the 10 percent statistic. Also given the UK has a more secularized society, in 2010, I don’t know how many would lie, given how the homosexuals, who do self-identify these days in a rebellious nature. Plus, if the person were closeted, it might the celibates that say ‘other’

Judith Reismn exposed the 10% fallacy years ago.
You mean some still buy the 10% nonsense? :rotfl:

By the criteria used to come up with that number way back when, I would be part of that 10%, solely because (get this) I slapped another man’s butt during an organized athletic contest.

By this criterion, you could count the non-gays in the NFL, NBA and MLB combined on one hand. :dts:

thanks for sharing that good update. prayers work!
That’s what I was talking about ^^^
Catholics consider homosexuality (the state, not the activity) to be a disordered temptation. The fact that fewer people are suffering from SSA than was previously thought is as good of news as if there were a reduction in the number of cases of cancer or diabetes.
