Silly Question: What Should I do if Mary Appears?

To those who object to kneeling before Mary:

It is customary, at least in Western civilizations, to kneel before a monarch or a “Queen Mother”. For that matter, isn’t it proper to kneel before the Pope? To kiss his (or any bishop’s) ring?

We show all of this obeisance to earthly royalty; why not to that of heaven? Mary is THE Queen Mother – certainly kneeling before her is appropriate; it’s not the same thing as worshipping her.

If it is in fact a “spirit” and it asks to pray such prayers as the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, for example, how could Satan in his false pride summon St. Michael in a petitional prayer to be cast back into Hell?

There has to be some snese of things…even in the spirit world. There is Good and Evil…Evil does NOT worship God.

Would an evil spirit pray the Rosary?

(See the thread “A strange voice prays the rosary”) This actually happened to my son and I while praying the rosary. A little girls voice joined us for the third decade, a full 10 hail marys and 1 Our Father, and she was a loud little thing.
The voice never asked us to pray with us, it just joined. Although when we started to pray the rosary that night, it was our first time out loud together and we didn’t know what we were doing. We prayed asked that God forgive us if we were doing it wrong and for our lack of knowledge with respect to the rosary. We didn’t know what the meditations were supposed to be so between each decade we just picked different things in Jesus’s life to think about. We also prayed and asked that God’s angels in heaven and saints join us in this beautiful prayer so that it might mean more than just us silly two in case we were doing it wrong. I thought that at least his angels could make up for some of our slack.

I’ve never known for sure if we could say it wasn’t evil so this is why I ask. Although I thought we could assume it wasn’t.

We’ve never heard anything like it before or since. It was very strange.

An interesting side note is that I got really hot while it happened and the voice sounded like it was coming from somewhere by me. I swear the temp went up 40 degrees while she prayed.

I think that little St. Jacinta (one of the three Seers of Fatima) must have joined in with you and your son. 🙂

She went to Heaven at the age of 10, after having spent more than half of her little life encouraging people to pray the Rosary for peace. 🙂

Not a silly question!!
It is in fact a very smart and alert question. A lot of people don’t realize that even Mary tested the spirit when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to her.
You test the spirit by saying, “Jesus Christ is come in the flesh”.
If in fact it is the Theotokos, then she will answer with the same words without change or variation.

The Archangel Gabriel had appeared previously to Zecharias and announced the birth of John the Baptist. Well Zecharias doubted the words of the angel because he and his wife were very old and his wife was barren. So Zecharias doubted that God had the power to do this. And so Zecharias was struck mute until the birth of John the Baptist. Now, if we are to believe that Mary’s question to the angel was not a doubt of God’s power…then why did Mary ask the question and why wasn’t she wrong for asking what “may seem” like a doubt of God’s power to do what the angel said.???

This is where Mary’s vow of virginity is evidenced. Mary didn’t doubt that God could bring about this child by natural means, but Mary knew that God knew of her vow of perpetual virginity. Was God rejecting her vow? This was the test. The angel did not pronounce a punishment to Mary because Mary did not doubt. Instead the angel explained to Mary that the child she would bear would be The Son of God. That’s when Mary pronounced the words that the celestial courts were holding their breath for, " fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum"… and all was well in the world, in heaven and all of creation.

Luke 1:34 “How shall this be, I know not a man”

She didn’t say this out of ignorance, surely she knew that the union between a man and a woman would bring about a child. Her vow was between her and God.

I’m sorry if it’s not clear…:o really, I’m sorry.

I guess I don’t understand how this was a test for the angel because maybe God could’ve told her that he had other plans for her. I mean how would she know for certain?

The test wasn’t for the angel,…it was to test that the message was truly from God in lieu of her vow of perpetual viriginity. And there were no other plans, this was a sole mission with a sole purpose. But Mary had no idea, kinda’ like the example you pose of “Mary appearing in the office”… It’s not a matter of how to greet the apparition, but of whether the apparition is of Godly origin.

Do you think that she consciously tested the angel?

I wonder if angelic apparitions or apparitions from the bad one were more common back then because I don’t think it is common knowledge to test apparitions. Of course Catholics, if practicing, know it. But I see things on TV all the time about people talking ot spirits and just simply asking them if they are from God and if they tell them yes they just believe. I don’t think everyone knows how to test.

I had someone tell me that I should never talk to an aparition period. But I also had a Priest tell me to ask them to tell me “Jesus is lord” or something like that I can’t remember exactly. It seems like there are lots of answers on the subject, but then you see Mary talked to an aparition and I wonder if she just had special knowledge of how to do it and what to be careful about prior to it happening.

Hello Sarah,

I think that people like Mary are tuned into the will of God and are able to decide correctly everytime.

I believe the words you’re trying to remember are, “Jesus Christ is come in the flesh”. People or entities that are not of God or are not speaking with the Spirit of God, are physically incapable to repeat those words.

I wish I had Mary living next door to me or something so that I could ask her questions. She would probably be one of the ulitmate discerners. (if that is a word)

I am sorry if I am beating this subject to death. But do we know why they can’t say “Jesus Christ is come in the flesh”?
I understand it is because they are not of God, but did Jesus say that they couldn’t or did we get some revelation from a Saint or what. Why can’t they say it and how do we know about this? Is it because of exorcisms?

I am so glad I can say that phrase!!!

BTW - I think I was told to say ‘Praise be Jesus Christ through Mary’ or something like that. But then again I really can’t remember…

Pee your pants!..okay so that’s a silly answer.

The true answer is: You should tell her to go away and that you are not holy enough for her to come to. Make the sign of the cross and then immediately tell your spiritual father. He will give you direction on what to do if she continues to re-appear. Keep in mind that the majority of apparitions are false…meaning not from God…“even if an angel of light showed appear to you”…we are to test all apparitions; however the best first response to tell her to go away. If it really is Mary, she will understand that you are being careful not trying to be offensive.

From what I understand demons do not want to say ‘Jesus Christ is come ot the flesh’ because it would beneath them to adore a human being which in coomparison, are below the good angels. And they say that is why Lucifer refused to accept the will of god in wanting to send His Son-God onto the earth, which meant they would have to adore Him. Lucifer was the highest angel and the right hand man as it were to God. And knowing He would have to bend his knee to God-man was too much for him.
 
First rub your eyes or check if this is a dream/hallucination. If not then acknowledge the vision. If you have Holy Water on hand sprinkle the vision. If it remains then kneel. If there is no Holy Water take out a blessed rosary or crucifix and hold it before the vision or say a prayer to make it leave if it is false. If you realize it is true then kneel and ask the Holy Mother what she wants.
