Thoughts? Personally I agree with Archbishop Girotti, as long as Mr Berlusconi wasn’t in mortal sin at the time he could receive communion as according to canon law he could as long as he wasn’t living with his second life, and besides making a big fuss about it would needlessly strain ties between the Church and Berlusconi who despite some doubtful activities in his private life, is politically speaking, pro-Catholic with the correct stances against euthanasia, supporting family values, etc.
 
The article is very confusing. It speaks only to civil divorce (which we don’t care about) and does not mention annulments.

If I followed what they are saying, his most recent “marriage” was by a civil ceremony so it lacks proper form and is not valid. Since he is divorcing that “wife” he presumably is no longer having sex with her outside of marriage so he might not be in a state of mortal sin (if he has had a proper confession).

The article is a mess. It does virtually nothing to explain Catholic beliefs.
