Back to Simon Bar Jonah. I think Dr. Scott Hahn must have left out that even though Jesus calls Simon Bar Jonah in Matthew 16:16, in Matthew 16:22-23 we see:
Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 23But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
So then I would say that Jesus calls Peter Simon Bar Jonah because like Jonah one minute he gets an assignment to declare Jesus the Son of God and the next minute God the Son Jesus calls him “Satan”. Thus Simon is really not the Son of Abraham but the son of Jonah failing to fullfill his own calling. Peter never recovered from this moment on. He is on skid row. He only gets back at his feet on the day of Pentecost.!
This is quite comical. Jonah fulfilled his own calling, just as Peter did. And Jesus, as you well know, was aware that Peter was going to falter and yet still made him the Rock.

Please know that this is not about Peter the Rock. And yes Peter is the Rock. It is Peter like Jonah who minded the things of this world, but when the Holy Spirit came like a rushing wind he answered the call. And one day Peter the Rock will step down for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords Jesus not because Jesus and Peter are not in the same “boat” but one Supreme Ruler will rule for a 1000 years and he is to COME. (Rev 1:5). He is to rule from Jerusalem the city of the Great King.

Simon Peter’s father’s name was John, but why would Jesus make such a mistake as messing up his name? Jonah means dove. The dove is the sign of the Holy Spirit. So Jesus is saying Simon son of the Holy Spirit.

Don’t forget that Jesus placed himself in the role of Jonah earlier in Matthew 16, calling Himself the “sign of Jonah”. I think He is calling Peter His own spiritual son. But its all hypothesis, so you could be right. Good catch.
