Just a clarification. The liturgical day normally begins at 12:00 a.m.

For Sundays and Solemnities, though, the liturgical day of the Church does begin the evening before. But that’s only for Sundays and Solemnities (which is why, as you note, Vigil Masses are the way they are, and why the Liturgy of the Hours has two Evening Prayers).

It does exist. But It seems you must choose to reject forgiveness and allow your heart to be hardened.

As for the elusive eating meat/mortal sin/ Fridays discourse:

lets’ face it. Not all nuns are equal and some were pretty darn scary ladies. If you were taught it was a mortal sin, and then you chose to eat that hamburger for whatever reason ( for me it just smelled way to good to pass up and I was hungry), then would it not be a mortal sin because that is what you knew? And why did the priest not correct it if it wasn’t considered so back then?

because it was about obedience to church law , not the food really. It was about the lack of being willing to do sacrifice, not the food.

As an adult, i can see wisdom in scheduled restrictions to build up discipline, but it all the more sweeter to be willing to do something for our Lord Jesus Christ from the yearning in my own soul to please Him.
