What I meant to question is whether you are Catholic or if you belong to another Christian community.
That is on my profile.
I’m sorry if I am totally misinterpreting your posts.
I appreciate the apology, even though this is really questioning my faith.
Are you perhaps playing devil’s advocate
Why don’t you narrow the conversation to a specific comment in a specific thread?
That would be more productive, I think.

I realize that Catholics can be big government or small government–both of these are acceptable by the Church, although the Catechism makes it clear that subsidiarity is the best way for governments to work, which to me seems to be more likely to happen in a limited-government system.

I also realize that, at least in the past, it was possible and even likely that Catholics would vote Democratic rather than Republican. I personally believe that both parties are fragmented to a point where a Party Platform means very little, however…as Catholics, we cannot just ignore the FACT that the Republican Party Platform includes a pro-life statement,
Regarding Catholic understanding of subsidiarity there is the realization that the appeal for help, be it for natural disaster, community or individual assistance goes up the hierarchy (this points to a larger entity that is available) by reason of its very teaching.

In summary, the national guard would not have been used in a world war, local municipal firefighters are not alone in the CA wildfires, and a society cannot rely on charity and soup kitchens alone during nation wide depressions. < Big government was required to step in which is subsidiarity in its rudimentary principle in action!~

Full stop on your 'Pro-Life" statement which is a term that has been hi-jacked to suggest the Catholic concern is limited to the unborn, which is a mischaracterization of Catholic teaching.

Catholic teaching does not put one life above another, nor does it disregard the migrant during political upheaval or persecutions (which failed a voice during the 1940’s and learned and apologized for it) Neither does it regard a rash of mass shootings a small thing as it deals with the right to life over someone’s right to “own” something, unfettered.

I would refer you to your catechism with open eyes and encyclicals which focus on human rights.

CAF isn’t a business meeting with a productivity agenda for each thread and we are not employees expected to hone our “presentation” down to a few words.

It’s a discussion forum, with friends and interested bystanders sharing with each other.

Often, the conversations veer off into a different direction that is apropos to the topic. Sometimes, threads go entirely off topic and it takes a moderator or a frustrated member to get things back on track. But as Stu Smalley used to say, “That’s…OK.”

While some sub fora are like that, this one and some others seem more to provide a platform that people use to present their perception of facts and their analysis of world news. Others respond to that representation of fact and analysis. Sometimes, they veer off to talk about the poster rather than the post. Such posts can be considered off-topic.
