Singles stop getting worked up over Valentine's Day

The phrase “get over it” angers me and others like me who have fought for years against loneliness. We are biological creatures as well as spiritual creatures. What Valentine’s Day does in a lot of ways is reinforce the loneliness many of us feel.

It is not so easy to “get over it” also when you have specific problems in your life that make you lonely. For example, in my case, I have OCD. It is generally well managed but on occasion the anxiety I feel gets the better of me and I can become a bitter, negative person. Often this happens when I’m in a relationship because for me that is a very anxious time. My periods of being like this don’t last very long, like sometimes a day or two. But often that is enough to end the relationship.

I get it, I mean a lot of people complain about being single on V-Day when they have the power to change this. Some people are not so lucky. I am a sensitive, very nice and very fun man who has had a life of loneliness because no one takes the time to understand me. Valentine’s Day exacerbates this.

Thank you for a beautiful post! 🙂 I really love what you’ve written here! 🙂

I’ve been in your situation and I understand. I will certainly pray for you, kib. I have no doubt that God has an amazing woman waiting for you, and I’ll pray that He’ll lead the two of you to each other soon! 🙂
Hi Morwenna, thanks for the kinds words and prayers! I will remember you in my prayers today, I do hope you are right!

I would like to invite all of you to join me in the stores for the post-Valentine’s Day chocolate grab-fest…In my household, NO ONE gives up chocolate for Lent, and V.D. is a big score for chocolate on half price clearance. Just DO NOT try to wrest the Peanut M&Ms away from me, or I’ll deck ya!

😉

What’s sad is they don’t really care so much about helping me out and setting me up and are just simply using that as a veneer to mock me because they’re out of fresh meat to verbally punch and abuse.

Then again, having conservative standards is a crime nowadays so what do you expect from the bros of the 4chan troll crowd?

Another thing that burns me is that they accuse me of whining. Hello? Who brought up the date? Who said the V-word? Not me ‘buddy’. You gonna talk (or even whine yourself) about your love life during the Season of Hearts then I don’t see how I’m any less entitled to express my own romantic grievances.

I suppose I have those. I still rather be without the opinions of the less tact though. >:\

Same here! Why can’t people see that? I’m in my 20s but never ever had a girlfriend. I barely had what you’d call a crush and the feelings didn’t exactly last long. I’ve seen (and have been surrounded) very attractive women but in no way could I ever see myself in a romantic relationship with any of them. They’re just not my type! There’s no click and dare I remind you all how bad it is to just act on ‘clicks’ based on physical appearance. -.-

Do any of you know how hard it is to find a meek ingenue-type in this country? I’ve had both good and bad friends say that what I’m looking for is either already extinct since the 1900s or lives on a hill, in the far flung boondocks of what’s left of Catholic Europe! DX

And no, I will not settle for anything less! If I wanted anything less, I’d just stick to living with my sister and my mother. DX

Well I’m sorry if some of us aren’t satisfied with the whole God-love-everyone argument. (What? You really think that’s convincing? Think deeper.) However, just because there’s an unquestionable superiority of the relationship between Divine-Creator and Creation, doesn’t make romantic relationships any less significant and desirable. You might find it sufficient to have nice warm feelings towards God (and frankly, that might even be a sign that you’re meant for consecrated celibacy) but that’s not MY calling.

I want a girl in my life! I want to have a moment on top of a school building where a cute little lass -]in a Japanese school uniform /-]confesses her love to me and I ask her to give me a moment to think, take a trip downstairs, and actually trip from shock-induced lack of focus. I want to date, cuddle, and kiss! I want someone I can work together to have a permanent, married relationship with!! roars to the heavens Is that too much to ask!?!? TwT
  1. We have a rule at our house. When someone tells you that you are annoying, you’re not allowed to argue with them. Nothing could be more pointless.
  2. I heard a priest point out in a talk once that we get maybe 2-3 close friends in a life time. I think he’s right. Most people are not going to be that for us, and the sooner we accept that, the better.
  3. Prayer is a great place to find someone to complain to who never gets tired of us. Look at the Psalms…complaint after complaint after complaint. When God gets tired of listening to us, God will let us know. Unlike everyone else, God gives that message with the grace to do better. I think that God sometimes even gives us a shortage of sympathetic ears, so that we’ll finally be driven to talk to Him, intead!! 😃
  4. God has supplied far too many people with happy and fruitful marriages to be accused of not caring about that! Sometimes, though, the answer is, “you’re just going to have to be patient”. For instance, my husband is over seven years older than I am. Once he asked out loud why he didn’t find me ten years earlier. I reminded him that I would have only been a teenager, and my father would have shot him. So maybe God is merely preserving you from bodily harm until your spouse is ready!! 😃

After a few years of over-indulgence, my husband and I are trying to lose extra pounds. We restricted ourselves to a little bowl of very chocolate ice cream, some raspberries, and some very dark chocolate sauce. It was quite lovely.

The kids each have bags of sweets from the Valentine’s Day exchange at school, in which attaching candy to notes of strictly platonic friendship is unofficially de rigueur. (I’m sure there are actually communications of romantic desire sent out, but these must be kept strictly secret if one does not want to be teased about it for the rest of the school year!) Our kids will be stuffing those sweets down between now and Ash Wednesday, after which the leftovers will be sealed up and put away until Easter.

IOW, this year, Valentine’s Day is kicking off a little chocolate-fueled Mardi Gras!

Well I’m sorry but I’ve had people decry my ‘spiritual senses’ here as dead. I can’t say I’ve had any comfort in throwing out my thoughts and getting nothing but the nagging hint that I’m supposed to figure it out myself as I always have. Besides, I doubt He hasn’t been listening anyways as everything I think or say is something I throw out for any spiritual being to hear. Do I hear a reply though? I can’t say.

…actually, if you knew me more closely in person, that would make sense but at the same time contain plenty of awkward connotations. >_<;;;

To borrow a scene from Scott Pilgrim VS The World
Me: Okay, about the 17-year-old thing, don’t tell too many people.
AP (Work Buddy): Hey, you know me. 🙂
Me: I mean please don’t tell my sister.
AP: You know me. texts
Me: Who are you texting…? >_>
phone rings and AP exits to bathroom
Me: answers
K (Little Sister): 17-years-old!? Scandal! D8<
Me: That’s not true! Who told you!? DX
K: AP, duh.
Me: That gossipy troll… >_<;;
AP: opens bathroom You know me.
Me: AP!!! DX
AP: closes door with troll face

I’ll be joining you in the candy grab. :). I gave up chocolate last year. That was hard.

Your spiritual senses are dead, too? You cannot catch a break, can you? As for the nagging sense that you’re supposed to figure questions you raise in prayer yourself, do remember that you are allowed to ask follow-up questions. Endless and incessant follow-up questions, in fact.

I do not mean to say that finding your own way by the exclusive use of prayer over a combination of prayer and the guidance of good fellowship is an ideal. I mean to say that when it is your only option, it is worth pursuing with persevance. Do your honest best, do not give up, and don’t fear God. God is on your side.

As for confiding in people with a texting habit…well, you know better now, don’t you? Few people will guard your secrets more closely than you do yourself.
