Hi

The reference Volume 7, Book 72, Number 833 is not from Quran. I said it is not primary teachings of Muhammad which is all mentioned in Quran.

Thanks
Yes as i mentioned earlier, an Ahmadi would reject them as authentic - since a majority of them disregard the Hadith. They only pick and choose when necessary to back their claims of being an Ahmadi or to refute non-Muslims. When non-Muslims use it to oppose their view, they reject it. See how conveniently it works?

So where are all the Muslims to help me understand the list of sins? I feel left out. 😦

I know Muslim Woman made a post, but it didn’t really help me understand much. Perhaps she would be kind enough to post again? 🙂

My apologies for not understanding your answers, Muslim Woman. 😊

I think you get me wrong. I do respect Hadith, though it was not dictated by Muhammad. Muhammad only didtated Quran and hence Hadith cannot take its place. Threre are Huffaz of Quran who memorize Quran and recite it so frequently.

A portion of Quran is daily recited by Muslims in all prayers (five in all in a day), no Muslim dare recite Hadith in place of Quran. So Quran is and had been all along these centuries been a consenses of every Muslim basic resource book.Quran is beyond doubt, you may ask any Muslim; for Hadith he won’t committ any thing.

Hadith was collected much later maybe 150/250 years later. Those who collected it made a system to consult it; that should not be ignored; as it is one of the context of a Hadith.

I think I mentioned about Hadith in one of my posts here. Let me search it; I would give an excerpt from it:

forums.catholic-questions.org/showpost.php?p=4500801&postcount=27

“We understand that the status of NTBible is not even of a Hadith in Muslims. NTBible was not dictated by Jesus, as was not the Hadith dictated by Muhammad; but Muslims scrutinized Hadith with the chains of persons narrating it (technically called rivayat) and then its comparison with standard book Quran for the meaning (technically called drayat). If Hadith was not according to Quran it was not to be practiced”

Let me explain you “drayat” is its understanding; for which context of Quran and text of Quran is essential.

I do respect Hadith in this sense; which is very rational and logical.

I think now you understand it.

Thanks

Thank you for taking time to explain your position. The Hadiths are essential for a Muslim to fully understand the Qu’ran, correct? One can call the Hadith a compendium to a convert’s guide to the Qu’ran. It is also essential because the Hadith compliments the Qu’ran in many aspects and confirms what Mohammad taught. No doubt, there are certain teachings found only in the Qu’ran but not in the collection of Hadiths, but many Muslims also use the Hadiths as guides for establishing Islamic laws and treatises on Sha’ria as well as guided teachings based on Mohammad’s sayings. If the woman felt paranoid, who can blame her since this is what is found in Islamic writings. Just because something isn’t found in the Qu’ran but found in the Hadiths, does not mean it is not part and parcel of Islamic thought.

Yep. Another Muslim thread. This one dealing with the major sins of Islam. There are some I understand, others I do not. I want to point out the ones I don’t and ask, very politely, why these sins are considered sins; how are they sins, I should ask? Article from Wikipedia.

But it does exist in Islam. If you please, let us know which hadiths you disregard, and which you accept.

Hi

Thank you for asking this question; though I have already answered this question several times, yet there is no harm repeating it again and again so that every friend here understands it fully:

"We understand that the status of NTBible is not even of a Hadith in Muslims. NTBible was not dictated by Jesus, as was not the Hadith dictated by Muhammad; but Muslims scrutinized Hadith with the chains of persons narrating it (technically called rivayat) and then its comparison with standard book Quran for the meaning (technically called drayat). If Hadith was not according to Quran it was not to be practiced.

So, our Catholic friends here for no fault of theirs had nothing with them dictated directly from Jesus; well, I am sorry for that. Jesus might have left that for Muhammad."

forums.catholic-questions.org/showpost.php?p=4500801&postcount=27

Every, say each Hadith is to be checked individually first for rivayat and then secondly for drayat, if it is supported by Quran then it is to accepted and practiced otherwise not.

I love Jesus and Mary as I do love Buddha and Krishna.

Thanks

What do you expect to find out if you set your own standard to your judgement?

BTW, can we check Quran whether it is from Muhammad or from Uthsman?

Hi

It is written in Quran that it has been revealed by God Allah on the heart of Muhammad for the whole mankind. It in not from Muhammad. You won’t find any Muslim who believes otherwise, in my opinion.

I love Buddha nad Krishna as I do love Jesus and Mary for peace and love in the world, so much needed.

Thanks

**Drinking Khamr (wine) **
This is forbidden in the Qur’an, not just wine but all intoxicants. And if you think about it… intoxication weakens a person’s judgment, and his ability to judge right for wrong, and makes it more likely for him to commit other sinful acts. For instance… domestic abuse, adultery or fornication, theft. It should be common knowledge that people are likely to act very stupid and irresponsible when they become intoxicated, so it’s utterly forbidden in Islam. Think about how many people die from alcohol-related car accidents alone, for instance, which could all be prevented. But short and simple–the Qur’an prohibits it, therefore it’s sinful.

**Women imitating men and men imitating women **
This was prohibited by the prophet Muhammad (saws) and I don’t know why exactly. There are a number of implications of such behavior that a society can be spared by preventing this “sin.”

**Not protecting oneself from urine **
I’m vaguely aware of a hadith about this but I don’t really have an explanation. And since this list is from wikipedia, and not an actual scholarly source, it’s hard for me to even be sure what it means. Sorry.

**Carrying tales **
I don’t know what this means either.

**A woman’s bad conduct towards her husband **
Not sure why it’s called a sin (i.e., the proof) but it makes a lot of sense. That would destabilize the marriage, making it more likely for either partner to seek satisfaction elsewhere (leading to sins of coveting or adultery) and can also hurt the children who watch it.

**Overbearing conduct toward the wife, the servant, the weak, and animals **
Same thing, pretty much. It is a kind of oppression, and oppression is forbidden.

Offending one’s neighbour
**Offending and abusing Muslims **
Offending people and having an arrogant attitude toward them

It’s bad. What bothers you about this being considered sinful?

**Men wearing silk and gold **
Prohibited by Muhammad, but I don’t know why.

**Arguing and disputing violently **
So?

**Giving short weight or measure **
This is a kind of cheating, lying, and stealing combined.

**Feeling secure from Allah’s Plan **
This is a kind of disbelief.

**Offending Allah’s righteous friends **
I’m not sure what this means.

**Spying for the enemy of the Muslims **
Treason. Duh.

**Cursing or insulting any of the Companions of Allah’s Messenger **
?

Sorry I don’t know exactly what problems you’re having…

Hi Sister Amy, glad to see you back in the forums. I hope you had a wonderful Eid. I have some questions for you:
**Drinking Khamr (wine) **
This is forbidden in the Qur’an, not just wine but all intoxicants. And if you think about it… intoxication weakens a person’s judgment, and his ability to judge right for wrong, and makes it more likely for him to commit other sinful acts. For instance… domestic abuse, adultery or fornication, theft. But wine (especially red wine) in considerable amounts can be a good anti-oxidant. Why is wine prohibited on earth but allowed in Syurga?
**Women imitating men and men imitating women **
This was prohibited by the prophet Muhammad (saws) and I don’t know why exactly. There are a number of implications of such behavior that a society can be spared by preventing this “sin.”
Well, to a certain extent, i can understand this prohibition. I think this may be referring to cross-dressers?
**Not protecting oneself from urine **
I’m vaguely aware of a hadith about this but I don’t really have an explanation. And since this list is from wikipedia, and not an actual scholarly source, it’s hard for me to even be sure what it means. Sorry.
What about people with bladder problems?
**A woman’s bad conduct towards her husband **
Not sure why it’s called a sin (i.e., the proof) but it makes a lot of sense. That would destabilize the marriage, making it more likely for either partner to seek satisfaction elsewhere (leading to sins of coveting or adultery) and can also hurt the children who watch it.
What about a man’s bad conduct towards his wife? It takes two to tango.
**Overbearing conduct toward the wife, the servant, the weak, and animals **
Same thing, pretty much. It is a kind of oppression, and oppression is forbidden.
Why is this subject (the wife) categorized together with servants, the weak and animals? I know it may look like a stupid question, but why do i get the feeling the wife is not at all as important as being up there with the husband?
**Men wearing silk and gold **
Prohibited by Muhammad, but I don’t know why.
Why is wearing gold and silk ha’raam to men? Is this applicable to Muslim women too? I know you don’t know the answers, but i am hoping maybe you could ask your sheikh for one.
**Offending Allah’s righteous friends **
I’m not sure what this means.
Mind asking your sheikh? Who is supposed to be Allah’s righteous friends?
**Cursing or insulting any of the Companions of Allah’s Messenger **
?
Ask your sheikh, perhaps he knows?

Hi Sister Amy, glad to see you back in the forums. I hope you had a wonderful Eid.
Thanks, nice to see you back as well.
But wine (especially red wine) in considerable amounts can be a good anti-oxidant. Why is wine prohibited on earth but allowed in Syurga?
I don’t know the meaning of the word ‘Syurga.’ Haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about, sorry. Wine is prohibited because Allah says there is some benefit in it, but more harm! There are also anti-oxidants in grape juice, which does not intoxicate. So it’s not like by avoiding alcohol you’re denying yourself anti-oxidants, which are found in many other places than red wine. Like grape juice.
Well, to a certain extent, i can understand this prohibition. I think this may be referring to cross-dressers?
🤷
What about people with bladder problems?
I really don’t understand what the sin is supposed to be. People with bladder problems are obviously excused, though.
What about a man’s bad conduct towards his wife? It takes two to tango.
It’s mentioned next.
Why is this subject (the wife) categorized together with servants, the weak and animals? I know it may look like a stupid question, but why do i get the feeling the wife is not at all as important as being up there with the husband?
First of all, both are considered sins. The difference is that a woman is in a position slightly below her husband–she does not have (in most cases) the physical position to abuse him, while he does have that position. Just like he also has the position to abuse a child. And also, it’s just as forbidden for a woman to abuse or oppress a child as it is for a man. Or a servant. But since men tend to be stronger and have the role of protecting women, the analogy is there.

But more to the point, I don’t know who compiled the list–it appears on Wikipedia, remember, so you’d be better off asking whoever compiled it why they did that. It doesn’t bother me personally and kind of makes sense, but seems more an organizational thing.
Why is wearing gold and silk ha’raam to men? Is this applicable to Muslim women too? I know you don’t know the answers, but i am hoping maybe you could ask your sheikh for one.
Wearing gold and sild is haraam for men (what is ha’raam anyway?) because it was prohibited by the prophet Muhammad. And because Muslim women are not men, it’s obviously not applicable to them too. And if something is prohibited in Islam it’s because it is in the best interest of the people that they avoid it. In what sense is does it harm the people? That’s what I don’t know. Some scholars have speculated: read here.
Mind asking your sheikh? Who is supposed to be Allah’s righteous friends?
My sheikh didn’t make the list, did he?
Ask your sheikh, perhaps he knows?
?

I don’t know the meaning of the word ‘Syurga.’
Syurga means heaven.
I really don’t understand what the sin is supposed to be. People with bladder problems are obviously excused, though.
Does the Qu’ran mention people with bladder problems are excused from this ‘sin’? Why is it a sin to begin with? Who would want to pee on themselves in the first place? Mohammad told his followers to drink urine as a form of medicine (MW’s own words), so i am truly perplexed with this ‘sin’.
But more to the point, I don’t know who compiled the list–it appears on Wikipedia, remember, so you’d be better off asking whoever compiled it why they did that. It doesn’t bother me personally and kind of makes sense, but seems more an organizational thing.
I think Wikipedia did organize the list as according to Muslim sources. It may not bother you but it did raise my eyebrow, because i saw it as placing the woman as an inferior being.

Not trying to egg on, but did you know the national costume of Malaysia is made of silk? Malay-Muslim men wear it, even members of their Parliament. It is also common to see Malay-Muslim men here wear silk and gold chains or bracelets and rings. Another question also arises, is silk supposed to be an exclusive material reserved only for women? Why should gold also be reserved only for women? Muslim merchants used to buy silk from China and Muslim men wore it as they crossed the Silk Trade route as silk was a cooler fabric for the desert sun.
My sheikh didn’t make the list, did he?
I wasn’t trying to be patronizing. I really do want you to ask your sheikh for his explanations since you do not know them. It would also be educational for us forumers to read from his perspective.

I know, brother. How do I know it is true? Answer : Because Muhammad said so. How do I know Muhammad is right? Answer : Quran said so.

Syurga means heaven.
In what language?

Then perhaps someone could find me the Muslim sources and I could learn a thing or two. But as a woman I didn’t feel inferior at all. 🤷

I really could care less. If people choose their own desires over the mandates of the Almighty, then they will have to answer for it.

I have no intention of wasting his time with silly questions like these.

Question: Why is _______ a sin?
Answer: Because it is forbidden in Qur’an or Sunnah.
Question: But why is it forbidden?
Answer: Because it is harmful for mankind or society in some way.
Question: But how is it harmful?
Answer: Sometimes we know the wisdom behind it, and sometimes we don’t.

In what language?
In the Malay language. 🙂
What is the sin in the first place? Do you even know?
Beats me. I was hoping you knew. You are the Muslim here, not me. 🤷
Then perhaps someone could find me the Muslim sources and I could learn a thing or two. But as a woman I didn’t feel inferior at all. 🤷
Ironically, most Muslim women say the same. However, some groups of women in Islam have complained about being treated as inferior beings. One such group exists in Malaysia.
I really could care less. If people choose their own desires over the mandates of the Almighty, then they will have to answer for it.
So are you implying all Malay-Muslim men who wear the national costume of Malaysia are apostates of Islam?
I have no intention of wasting his time with silly questions like these.
Hmmm. Is this the kind of answer a potential convert to Islam would face if he/she asks the same questions in religious classes? 🤷

And out of curiosity, why did you decide to use the Malay language?
Beats me. I was hoping you knew. You are the Muslim here, not me. 🤷
Sheikh Wiki fails us again.
Ironically, most Muslim women say the same. However, some groups of women in Islam have complained about being treated as inferior beings. One such group exists in Malaysia.
Non-Muslim women in the USA complain about being treated as inferior beings. They get paid less for the same work (given same experience/qualifications). They complain about being viewed as sexual objects. They deal with harassment in their workplaces. They work at their careers just as hard as men do but then are expected to be perfect mothers, cooks, wives all the time.
So are you implying all Malay-Muslim men who wear the national costume of Malaysia are apostates of Islam?
I said I really could care less. If you want to call people apostates, then you deal with it. I certainly never suggested it, nor do I agree.
Hmmm. Is this the kind of answer a potential convert to Islam would face if he/she asks the same questions in religious classes? 🤷
Is what the kind of answer? “No, I won’t ask my sheikh?” No that’s not the answer. That’s the answer you get since you specifically asked me to ask him and I told you I won’t because the questions are too silly for that–and you’re acting like he might reveal something profound.

Here is the answer.

If you believe that God created mankind, the heavens and the earth, all with a purpose and with wisdom, and if you believe that God knows best what is good for man and what is harmful for him, and that God has even sent man messengers and revelation to explain and teach them right from wrong…

If you believe that, and understand that God has forbidden men to do a certain thing…

How can you argue, or even ask why? The Creator, Sustainer of the Universe and you dare to ask Him why? Does it even matter why? If you believe in God, and you trust God, trust His revelation and His messengers–then what, are you going to argue? Say no, Oh Lord, My All-Wise Creator, I know better than you? So I refuse unless you give me an explanation?

That’s why it’s silly.

If you believe in God and trust in Him, then it doesn’t matter why, and any rationalization you attempt to make, even though it might be correct, is still inferior to the ultimate command from Allah.

Muslims don’t make wudhu for hygiene purposes, they make wudhu because God commanded it. They don’t pray five times a day to improve their flexibility–they do it because God commanded it. They follow God’s commands because they want to worship Him.

And out of curiosity, why did you decide to use the Malay language?
Why not? Whether you call it Syurga, Swurgh/Swurga, Jannah, Tien-Tang or whichever language, Heaven is still Heaven. I speak 4 languages, one of them is Malay.
Sheikh Wiki fails us again.
Maybe, but i was being sincere in asking for explanations.
How is it different from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Morocco, Yemen? Women in some of the countries mentioned are not even allowed to drive a car, or be seen with men after dark (unless you were her husband, brother or a male relative), etc.
I said I really could care less. If you want to call people apostates, then you deal with it. I certainly never suggested it, nor do I agree.
Isn’t that how orthodox Islam would defy them as? What do you not agree with? I’m curious.
Is what the kind of answer? “No, I won’t ask my sheikh?” No that’s not the answer. That’s the answer you get since you specifically asked me to ask him and I told you I won’t because the questions are too silly for that–and you’re acting like he might reveal something profound.
When i was in RCIA, i asked the priest several questions - some which were beyond what normal RCIA classes usually teach. Some initiates were too afraid to ask them but i wasn’t. I will never forget what he told me - No question is a silly question. Of course, questions asked have to be sincere and not of mischevious intent. I certainly wasn’t trying to be mischevious. I know its hard to believe since you and i have been in heated arguements before, but give me the benefit of the doubt, will ya?
Here is the answer.

If you believe that God created mankind, the heavens and the earth, all with a purpose and with wisdom, and if you believe that God knows best what is good for man and what is harmful for him, and that God has even sent man messengers and revelation to explain and teach them right from wrong…

So I refuse unless you give me an explanation?

That’s why it’s silly.
I wasn’t asking God to explain himself. I am asking you, the follower of your prophet to help me understand what your religious text, the scripture you believe to have been God-breathed, that inspired your prophet to have his scribes write it down. I am asking what knowledge your sheikh, a fellow Muslim, has imparted unto you.
If you believe in God and trust in Him, then it doesn’t matter why, and any rationalization you attempt to make, even though it might be correct, is still inferior to the ultimate command from Allah.
The quest for knowledge has always been an intergral part of human civilization. Humans are capable of intelligence (as God would have intended) and also naivety (Syaitan’s best weapon). Rationalization of God’s commandments means you want to follow His teachings as closely as possible without comprimising His mercy and grace. Of course, this also means only an experienced teacher and a holy man would be the best person for the job.
Muslims don’t make wudhu for hygiene purposes, they make wudhu because God commanded it. They don’t pray five times a day to improve their flexibility–they do it because God commanded it. They follow God’s commands because they want to worship Him.
There is always a reason behind every commandment from God.

God forbids alcohol in this earth & allowed it in heaven. Believers must not challenge God why He did it. We must hear & obey God. Anyway , a logical explanation is there will be no harm from wine in heaven like headache ; people won’t become drunk after taking heavenly wine.

Alcohol
According to Quran and Sunnah

The Noble Qur’an - Al-Ma’idah 5:91

Shaitân (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allâh and from As-Salât (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain?

Mohammad told his followers to drink urine as a form of medicine (MW’s own words),
some people in the desert were suffering from a specific decease. Then Prophet (p) told them to drink camel’s urine as a medicine . In the normal time , we are not told to take urine of camel or human being.

Islam gives importance on physical as well as spiritual purity . That’s the reason we do abolution before daily 5 times prayers / salat. To be careful from being touched
by urine is a part of cleanliness.

A sick person is excused from various do’s & dont’s such as s/he is allowed not to fast ( will do that later when s/he is ok ) , not to do abolution with water ( s/he will do the dry abolution with clean soil ) etc. So if a person can’t control his/her urine , it’s not a sin ; she is allowed to offer salat/prayer in that condition ( when drops of urine are coming out); she is considered as majur ( don’t know the Eng word --a person who is helpless / does not have other option )
Malay-Muslim men here wear silk and gold chains or bracelets and rings.
too bad . Just because some or many Muslims are disobeying the commands of God and His messenger , does not mean the order is invalid . All will get due punishment on the last day if die without repentance or God forgives them for their some good deeds.
is silk supposed to be an exclusive material reserved only for women? Why should gold also be reserved only for women?
to my knowledge , not all kind of silk is prohibited for men. InshaAllah I will browse for details leter.

Men must not dress or act like women. God gave them more physical strength & they must be fit for ’ jihad’ when & if necessary. If men start wearing gold ornaments , wearing fancy dresses , they may become unfit for the struggles .

And God knows best.
