I have answered them. Serious abuses should be addressed, privately with the one committing the alleged abuse.

Making a spectacle of yourself by refusing a previously schelduled assignment, or dragging a camcorder into Mass will do nothing to change the alleged abuse.

Ask yourself, would God ask you to take a camcorder to Mass to document something you see as an abuse? Or, would he ask you to come before him in humility, asking forgiveness for your own sins? 🤷
And if the one committing the abuse refuses to correct it or denies it? What then?

A Nun speaks at our Church once a year. Often she brings young women who are novices. She speaks about the missionary work her order is doing in South America. Neither she or the congregation has been struck by lightimg yet.

It all a matter of degree-if your Pastor makes it a habit to have lay people speak by all means go to the Bishop. If it is a very rare thing I wouldnt get too excited.

And if the one committing the abuse refuses to correct it or denies it? What then?
If this is a once-a-year abuse that the bishop permits and doesn’t make the mass invalid, just accept it. And you could write to the bishop now and ask him to address the issue differently next year.

If you were the pope and got a letter from an American complaining about a bishop doing this you would probably thank God it was nothing worse!

I think what scylla decided to do was a prudent solution. I wouldn’t have thought of the rosary. Well done!

Yes, I am quite sinful myself, yet that doesn’t mean that I cannot try and do what is right.

You have given me a good idea, and what I can do is bring my rosary with me. I could get a few decades in during the speech and focus on Christ, as they insult Christ in His Priesthood. I could offer reparation for the abuse.

This would cheer me up and focus my mind on God instead of the abuse at hand.

Thank you

Why don’t you see what she talks about first??? Good heavens, you act as if they are going to burn down the church and spread the ashes in the wind. Perhaps she will say something that makes a few people consider a religious life…wouldn’t THAT be terrible?🤷

And if the one committing the abuse refuses to correct it or denies it? What then?
If they refuse to correct it, that’s between him and his Bishop.

If they deny it, well, as I stated in another post, there’s what, dozens or hundreds of witnesses?

Clearly, a productive act, in more ways than one. Saying a rosary sure beats dragging in a camcorder 👍

By all means sit on the altar and openly pray your rosary. Make sure the whole congregation knows your feelings about this gross sacrilege. Why you might even say it outloud and see if enough in the congreagtion join in to drown out this apostatsy.

Or you could sit quietly and listen closley to what she says and try to discern just what it is she has to say that your Pastror found important enough for a rare departure from GIRM.

The Vatican tells us to do “all within our power”, so clearly that means BOTH the rosary AND the Camcorder 🙂

I am not sure if you understood me correctly. I would be praying in reparation for the abuse. To appease God for the insult to His Priesthood, not to feed my ego or to make an example.

I know it might be not commonplace in my parish, but shouldn’t we offer the most obedience to God.
If I have a son in law who beats my daughter once a year but is good the rest of the year would he be held up as an example of a good son-in-law?
“oh, don’t mind the black eye, he is a good and faithful husband he just departs from the norm once a year when he gets drunk”

So I did sit quietly and have just come back from the first Mass. Nope I didn’t learn a bit, just a bit more patience. Nothing faithful to the faith or grossly unfaithful was preached, other than a reflection of the readings.

So it was nice enough to not bother anybody and about what I expected. What is nice to people can certainly insult God, so I will probably go ahead and pray a few decades as I serve later.

I will not bring any attention to myself and I will serve Christ.

God Bless

I already stated that I was wrong about the Holy Orders for nuns.

To claim that you are “being abused” simply by being in the presence of something you consider to be abuse is petty, childish, and frankly makes me wanna barf.

**This is utter nonsense! The things noted are **abuses. It is not just my opinion. Why don’t you educate yourself. We all have the duty to know what is right and what is wrong, in the liturgy as well as in our daily life. How else will we know what should be done?

The fact remains, we simply don’t know all the circumstances. Will the priest give a brief homily then turn the congregation to the nun to speak? Was special permission granted by the Bishop? We don’t know…and until we know for certain, running around screaming “abuse, abuse” is a mockery of Christ.
Even is the priest gives a brief homily, that time is not the proper time for a lay person to speak. It appears to me that you could care less if it’s an abuse, anyway.

What should I do? I know this is prohibited yet I am scheduled to serve at Mass. There is a sister scheduled to give a homily, instead of the Priest, yet this is being called a “talk” and since this is a yearly thing, people hardly blink anymore.

What should I do? I called the office of worship in my diocese and they said that canon law was so involved that we really couldn’t say it was wrong. So even if some people, as they said, quoted a document prohibiting it, this was only part of the picture and that it we couldn’t determine that it was wrong.

The lady then did not want to discuss this with me and suggested I just go along with it and see how it is, and call back afterward. Then I got cut off and when I called back they lady said that I had received my answer and there was no more to say…(which seemed pretty dishonest but what could I do, I am just Joe pewsitter)

Should I just not serve and go to Mass or should I still be an MC that day and serve. I am not sure I can honestly participate as an MC knowing what I know. Life would have been easier if I didn’t read Redemptionis Sacramentum, but now what do I do?
Am I culpable for supporting the sin of disobedience by serving, I am the only person scheduled to serve as MC…

Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Scylla
Let me be blunt – there is no reason to play the martyr. Unless you can offer it up to God and be at peace for this Mass, find a trusted replacement (officially or unofficially) who doesn’t have a problem with what’s going and ask them to substitute for you. If you can’t do that, tactfully tell your pastor that you cannot attend – and there is no need to elaborate why.

If you think you (or they) can’t find a substitute then either you (or they) aren’t trying hard enough or you have other reasons for not wanting to effect the quickest and cleanest solution.

It’s bad for you to attend a Mass where you will not be nourished. It’s even worse for you to serve (or “MC”) a Mass with the negative mindset you are sure to have given your comments here.

You owe it to everyone who will be present at that Mass to even be at peace or be away…

it may not be omitted without a serious reason. urch in greater numbers."

So there has to be a homily (a talk on a sacred text) from a priest or deacon in addition to whatever is done by the sister.
Looks like a loophole to me. Someone’s serious reason may not match one’s own idea of a serious reason, but the language is there.

That’s one of the most horrible and arrogant ideas I have ever seen on these forums. Put yourself on display as the pious super-person huh? I can only hope that you are kidding.

I serve Mass all the time. If I ever felt the need to plan to pull-out a Rosary while sitting in the sanctuary in view of everyone at Mass, it would be a sure indicator to me that I didn’t belong at that Mass. I would get a substitute instead.

I would hope it would also cause me to reflect why I serve in the first place…

It’s not apostasy, but anyone that would do that has no business serving Mass. I would also suggest that anyone who would even thinks of that probably would benefit from at least a break.
Or you could sit quietly and listen closley to what she says and try to discern just what it is she has to say that your Pastror found important enough for a rare departure from GIRM.
Or silently pray without putting on a show as the great pious martyr! I have served Mass where a deacon who is an AWFUL speaker gives the homily. I was deeply concerned that I might grimace or frown from his remarks and the others would notice. My on the spot solution? Pray silently (WITHOUT moving lips or using apparatus!) until he was done.

You don’t belong in the sanctuary as a server. That’s beyond the pale. It truly sounds as if you are too prideful to pray the Rosary BEFORE Mass asking for the grace necessary not to negatively impact the Mass.

Even is the priest gives a brief homily, that time is not the proper time for a lay person to speak. It appears to me that you could care less if it’s an abuse, anyway.
Again, I stand by my comments. If I see a woman bonk her husband with a frying pan, that does not make ME a “victim of abuse”. Simply being present during, or observing and alleged abuse, doesn’t make you a “victim”

I do care about abuse…when it’s REAL abuse. This petty nonsense gets quite sickening…but after the sickening feeling passes, it becomes downright comical.

You do know that one is not supposed to say the rosary during Mass, don’t you??? But praise be that all is right with the world. From the sound of it I thought the good sister was going to come in full battle gear with spear and horned helmet and sing Wagner at the top of her lungs.

Really, there is a word for people who get hyper about the smallest religious things; it’s called being scrupulous. Perhaps when you get older you will see how silly it is.
