Because it is a really good show. 👍

I think it is really funny, although as the show has done better it’s begun pushing the gay thing more (and ironically, the way they have the daughter respond to it does not make gay parenting look good.) I have gone back and forth several times on whether or not to continue watching it, because apart from that aspect of the show it’s hilarious. But as that aspect of the show gets bigger, it lessens my enjoyment of it overall.

I was wondering when this was going to pop up! 🙂 That show has some funny aspects to it. However as previously mentioned, as the show goes on the gay agenda is being pushed more and more. I find it particularly interesting how they show the couple struggle with their respective “roles” in the relationship. To me it shows on a basic level why that can never truly work out.

Generally I avoid watching it. My wife will put it on and she knows it bothers me so she will change the channel if I walk into the room. I can’t stand watching people kiss in general, but especially a SSC. That, to me, is a homosexual act or at least leading to it so it is equal IMO.

It is a nice show, if you can look past that part. And even then, I’ll take a show like it with two main characters being homosexual over something like “Secret Life of the American Teenager”, where they pretty much get a new character pregnant every time they need another season.

lol I know that show blows my mind. I first thought it was about helping teenage girls and boys but then it just turns into a soap opera for teenagers lol

American comedy is like that kid in your junior high class who got a big laugh when he passed gas loudly one particular day.
Unfortunately, from that moment on the kid believed he was the funniest thing on earth. So he did it again, a few chuckles, but not quite as many as the first time. So he continues to do it hoping to recapture the first result.
Now laughter has turned to irritation and soon the other kids stop sitting near him…some even learn to hate him.
Unabated, the Gas Comedian starts a PR campaign to let the world know of his comic genus, he forms a special club of sophisticated fans who understand his “edgy humor”.
But like the gas he passed, he soon is forgotten, the kid grows up, gets a job at Wal-mart angry and bitter that the world was not ready for his brand of sophisticated humor.
The fools.

Have to say, I’ve watched a bit of it because USA sadly picked it up and added it to their lineup, and I can never make it far into an episode; and it’s not even the blatant supporting of immorality that does me in. The show just isn’t funny to me… at all… I don’t think it’s managed to draw a single chuckle out of me… oh well, I know everyone’s humor is different, but… seriously…

I struggle with whether or not to watch it as well! I know the homosexual agenda pushing is a downside but as long as I don’t let my kids watch it then I understand what right and wrong is and know just to ignore the parts that show the gay couple in alight that makes it seem ok. My biggest reason for watching it is Phil…he is just hilarious.

I’ve decided closing my eyes to this or that part of any TV program that tries to normalize immoral behaviors is not worth it. I dropped my occasional viewing of one show because they upped the heterosexual sex bits.

Peace,
Ed

What I want to know is how did his misshapen and ugly character get a beauty such as Sophia Vergara as his wife?

I can see it now. 8+ seasons of backstory. We can call it “How I Met Your Mother: Modern Family Edition”

As people like to say on the internet – this.

Seriously, this actor is uglier than Odo from Star Trek Deep Space Nine, to whom he bears more than a passing resemblance. (He may have a heart of gold to compensate for all I know.)

The writing and characters on that show are terrific. Great show.

I do think there is a difference between showing a gay couple on a TV show…compared to aggressively “pushing” an “agenda”, as some have expressed here.

This television show has a very realistic gay couple among it’s cast of characters.
It doesn’t “push” them on anyone with an “agenda” motive.
It merely shows an example of a couple.

.
I agree that this was the case for the first couple of seasons. But after that it got much more aggressive.

Of course it’s pushing an agenda! How could it not?

Having said that, I’ve never watched the show.

I agree. The only “gay agenda” on Modern Family is that gay people do exist and have the same kind of joys and struggles that we all do.

Modern Family is completely different than, say, Six Feet Under, which constantly hyped gay sex, or even The New Normal, which definitely pushed a particular thought agenda.

I disagree – the show portrays a gay couple who if I’m not mistaken are “married” and raising a child together! That is presented as good and normal, and so there is a message there obviously.

Such families do exist. Why shouldn’t this fact be acknowledged on TV?

The gay men are shown as ordinary people, not perverted monsters, which is also realistic.

The show is awesome and well written. In the real world, many families have parents who have married younger people, kids who are either academic nerds or aren’t interested in college and a gay brother or sister with a life partner. Many of the episodes deal with real family issues and show compassion and love that this family has for each other. 🙂

The main problem is that the gay couple’s family doesn’t bother to try and say anything about how gay relationships hurt the two people involved as well as the child being raised by two men without a mother. I will give them the fact that the daughter of the two men, Lily, is extremely naughty and poorly behaved…sooooo they’re not exactly saying that the whole gay parent thing is working out very well.
