<<COLLEGEVILLE — A priest at St. John’s University is resigning from his leadership position in response to newly clarified restrictions against admitting homosexuals into the Catholic priesthood.

The Rev. Bob Pierson, in an e-mail Wednesday to administrators and students at St. John’s and the College of St. Benedict, said, “Because I can no longer honestly represent, explain and defend the church’s teaching on homosexuality, I feel I must resign.”…>>>

Well he (Pierson) is gay & celibate as he stated in his email…the Church teaching has never changed regarding homosexuality stating that it is objectively disordered and as he stated he has a problem with this…good ridance I say. 👋

Doesn’t it just beg the question…Father…what were you teaching and defending BEFORE?

Well, the Vatican emphasized no homosexual teachers in seminaries, but this should probably apply to Catholic colleges and universities as well. After all, they have an impact on the formation of many more young people.

Maybe the Anglicans can use him.

Heck, they might make him a bishop!

Turn out the lights, the party’s over.

<<COLLEGEVILLE — The Rev. Bob Pierson says he does not want to become the poster child for gay priests.

But he also says he never hid the fact that he is homosexual.

“I would say that it feels good to be able to be honest,” Pierson said Thursday.

Pierson, who has worked as director of campus ministry at St. John’s University since 2001, told students and staff at St. John’s and the College of St. Benedict in an e-mail Wednesday that he would resign from that job effective Jan. 15. He cited his conflict with the Vatican’s policy about admitting gays into the priesthood as the reason.>>>

This is why basic Catholic doctrine is not taught around here…

Pierson said in the e-mail that he is gay and celibate. He said there were several elements in the Vatican document that he did not accept as true, including the assertion that homosexuals are “objectively disordered.”
Well, as far as I know it is the Catholic Church’s teaching. As per say the Catechism.
Catechism of the Catholic Church

Chastity and homosexuality

2357
Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141** tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.**"142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
Something tells me this priest doesn’t have a copy of this book, if so it is probably on a back room shelf well collected with dust. But if someone needs a copy, its all on the US Conference of Bishops website here usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art6.htm#2357 *

The purification has begun. Alleluliah. Lord have mercy.
While the chaplain did the “right” thing in resigning as it is obvious that he is unwilling or unable to submit and obey the Church to which he vowed to give his very being, I don’t think it something for which we should celebrate. We should weep for the loss of this man and his failure to submit and obey as he had vowed.

Hmmm. If you read 2357, it is homosexual ACTS, that are disordered, not homosexuals. 2358 condemns the INCLINATION, not homosexuals. 2359 seems to even call homosexual men to the priesthood.

I not seeing much compassion for this man, your Catholic brother and somone you would receive, perhaps even demand sacraments from just a week ago.

Good riddance. At least some more Catholic students will not have their faith destroyed by attending this “Catholic” University.

All this “cya” and “buh bye” nonsense is ridiculous :tsktsk:

I am shocked that people would behave in such a childish way about a matter that is clearly quite distressing for this priest. As well as this, this silly behaviour acheives nothing.

Perhaps we’re hoping that dissident Catholics will read this, and follow their dissident priests out the door…

We could only hope! Maybe they’ll all get together somewhere, and start yet another denomination.
