Their step is just normal. They have to defend the right faith
Hee, in Slovakia we have also no mosque so far as far as I know, although Muslims do want to settle one.
There ano only few Mormons out there, but some 20 000 Jehova Witnesses, many of them former Catholics. As you know, JW as well as Mormons do door-todoor evangelization…
Another reason could be that registered churches are subsidized by the state. So clergy of all churches are paid by the state so far although there are many people who require church-state separation. This hasn´t happened as of yet.

This is probably the key. Thanks for pointing out this fact, which would never occur to those of us in North America.

I’ll agree that if the government is going to fund churches, it has a responsibility to the taxpayers to fund only those which are legitimate, so registration must be made somewhat difficult.

Does the government put any limitations on churches which are not registered?

As far as I know there are no limitations on unregistered churches if I see your question correctly. However there are some small denominations, mostly Pentecostals who don´t want money from the state i order not to discredit themselves.
There are also another religous sects out there like Hare Krishna, Bahai…but so far registered only as “citizen groups”(I don´t know if itś the right term in English), whilst they don´t have 20 000 membership. I suspect Mormons also fall into this category.
But maybe the real danger are Muslims re 20 000 quota limits. Former Interior minister as well as many other local politicians are from Christian-democratic Party(Catholic) which vehemently opposes bulinding a mosque in Slovakia.

Why do any Churches accept money from the government. Seems not to be very Christ-like. If the money is for schools or other things that are of use to the state then I don’t see a religious problem; but to just accept money from the state for preaching and running the Church seems wrong. Maybe just my Americanism coming out though.

You guys are right. I am too for church-state separation. Better said, they are separated, but on the other hand clergy of registered churches are paid by the state and it should be so according to Vatican-Slovakia state treaty. One part of this treaty was about objection in conscience, the reason why former Slovak government collapsed earlier this year.
The Church herself says they can make a living without state subsidies, the problem seems to be with small Protestant churches. I think the real process of disestablishment starts in ten years…That´s the topic for another thread, though…

Things make a lot more sense now, and I think I now understand how the Bishops’ actions do not violate the Catholic principles of religious freedom. Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

anyone who thinks that any religion has the right to proselitize is wrong. the church teaches that everyone has the obligation to search for the truth. nobody with a normal intelligence can take a honest investigation of the mormon faith and find it reasonable. it is an affront to truth itself and has no right to exist. it only does so now because it has been deeply entrenched in the modern world.

the mormons were driven out because of thier erroneous beliefs concerning polygamy. orthodox christianity has a historically consistent foundation–mormonism doesn’t. it’s based on a conspiracy theory and proven fraudulent documents. it denies the divinity of Jesus and is therefore an anti-gospel. the devil loves to mix truth and lies to make it more appealing.

for it’s better to loose your life then to loose your soul. mormonism should be treated with contempt while the people with charity.
Bravo!👍
