A few weeks ago I was blessed to go to Cursillo. First off, I’d only been a Catholic for 5½ months and you’re supposed to be a Catholic for 2 years before you’re allowed to go. So, that was the first blessing.
We had just had Palunca when I returned to the conference room and all of a sudden, I couldn’t breathe. The scent of roses, Lavendar and Hyacinth was SO strong. I was asked what was wrong because some of the women could tell I was about to panic. I asked if anyone could smell the flowers. No one else in the room could smell them. I ended up going outside for fresh air. When I returned, I was told they’d tell me on break about the Roses.
I was told that the scent of Roses meant that the Virgin Mary had visited me and blessed me, but no one knew anything about the lavendar and Hyacinth.
When I got home, I did some research and found this:
This herb is reputed to be one of the plants most loved by the Virgin Mary, for as it does now, in ancient times it represented purity, cleanliness and virtue. Churches were decorated with lavender on Saint Barnabas Day. .(This is found in the 8th paragraph)

While Saint Hyacinth was at Kiev the Tartars sacked the town, but it was only as he finished Mass that the Saint heard of the danger. Without waiting to unvest, he took the ciborium in his hands, and was leaving the church. Then occurred the most famous of his countless prodigies. As he passed by a statue of Mary a voice said: “Hyacinth, My son, why do you leave Me behind? Take Me with you…” The statue was of heavy alabaster, but when Hyacinth took it in his arms it was light as a reed. With the Blessed Sacrament and the statue he walked to the Dnieper river, and crossed dry-shod over the surface of the waters to the far bank. (This is found in the 3rd paragraph)

So, needless to say, I’m a VERY firm believer in the scent of roses!!
God Bless
