What does it mean when someone sees smoke rising from the cup before and during Consecration?
Anyone ever heard of this?
Thanks for any help.

It might mean that incense is burning relatively close to the chalice. What does it mean when someone sees smoke rising from the cup before and during Consecration?

What do you mean? Can you tell without going into detail?I can mean a number of things.
Some of which we are not allowed to discuss on this forum
:yup: :yup:Sometimes smoke comes off the candles on the altar.
As St. John of the Cross advises, dismiss these things, even if they are divine.

Amen to that …Especially the last part EVEN IF THEY ARE DIVINE.:yup: :yup:

More than one saint has advised, or been advised, to stay way from private revelations - so I apply the “if it is good enough for them (the saints), it is good enough for me” rule.Amen to that …Especially the last part EVEN IF THEY ARE DIVINE.
RIght Maura?
Really? Name just one saint that has said we should stay away from private revelations…(which includes Church approved ones)More than one saint has advised, or been advised, to stay way from private revelations - so I apply the “if it is good enough for them (the saints), it is good enough for me” rule.
Are you picking on me? I responded to a quote from St. John of the Cross put up by another poster - so what is the problem??Really? Name just one saint that has said we should stay away from private revelations…(which includes Church approved ones)
Persecution Complex? Are you picking on me? I responded to a quote from St. John of the Cross put up by another poster - so what is the problem??
The quote from St. john of the cross said nothing about staying away from private revelations. Are you picking on me?
So please - in this discussion about the meaning of someone seeing ‘smoke’ (as the OP listed) what are the things referred to in “dismiss these things” quote? The quote from St. john of the cross said nothing about staying away from private revelations.
I did not quote St. John of the Cross - yet this person made a crack about the even if divine section of it as if I said something wrong.Persecution Complex?
Claiming that a Saint said something and providing a source are two entirely different things. You made a claim that multiple saints have advised staying away from private revelations. You are being asked to back that up. How is that picking on you?
James
Yep.I don’t want to see people getting into arguments over this. Basically the gist of the advice here is: forget about it, correct?
I looked up things that are not supposed to be mentioned in posts on this forum and one of those are private revelations. So I assume that is what they are talking about. So please - in this discussion about the meaning of someone seeing ‘smoke’ (as the OP listed) what are the things referred to in “dismiss these things” quote?
