Smoke rising from cup during Consecration-

To clarify really quickly, I just happened to have my eyes checked about three months ago, everything is fine, I don’t even wear glasses. There was no incense burning and I was sitting about 20 feet from the altar. This was a very small Mass in a makeshift area due to the new chapel not being ready for service yet.
So as far as any illusions from incense etc. go, I know that was not the case.
I thank you guys and will take your suggestions to heart and look at this incident as a love note from God.
I am a fairly recent convert, 2005, and things like these are still very new to me. I think this came at a time when I needed it and I am going to take it as that. By the way, the only people that know about this are my husband and people on this forum. I haven’t told anyone because I didn’t want people to think I was crazy. So, no pride there…🙂
So thank you guys again.

Hey, I know exactly what it’s like. I had my conversion in 2003 and things like this just kept happening, so don’t expect that this will be the last time but at the same time dont expect this to happen often or ever again, better yet, don’t expect…LOL 👍 remember to praise God afterwards!

Sorry for being so sarcastic.

As for what incident:
  • Is the makeshift area near and open to the construction area?
  • Is there dust from woodworking or stoneworking that could drift into the area.
  • What was the lighting like (i.e. artificial, or natural) in the altar area.
    What I am thinking is that some dust may of been kicked up and reflection of the light off the dust could look like smoke. This is especially true of stone dust.

The makeshift area is in the old building, so there is no construction. Good thought though…😉
 
Was it dark, foreboding, thick black smoke? Or nice smoke, like the incense smoke?

well, the wine might have been cold and the lord’s blood was much warmer when it changed, that could do it.

It means only one thing - A low budget parish with frugal and cheap parishioners.

But as to specifics it depends on when the smoke first appeared.

If it happens right after the wine is poured into the chalice and before consecration then we have the following most likely things happening:
  1. The Chalice is old and the cheap gold plate is pitted down to the base metal.
  2. The unconverted wine is a very cheap low grade vintage with too low Ph making it too acidic.
  3. The acid is reacting with the metal and putting off heat and smoke.
  4. It’s been going on for a long time but the priest is old and can’t see well either.
But if it happens then suddenly stops during the consecration rights it means Jesus has improved the vintage then converted it.

But if it smokes continuously from the first moment wine is poured in and continues right through the consecration rite it means your priest is not ordained and you are at an Episcopalian service or some other service whose celebrant does not have a valid ordination/holy-orders and the first condition above is true or God is making it clear that He is not amused.

The point I am trying to make is this:

In Heaven you see God.

In a private revelation you MAY see God.

Now would any of us say that to God if we are in Heaven? No of course not. So why, if God should decide to appear to us, would we say that or consider it if it happens on Earth while we are alive?

Ask one hundred people and you will probably get 100…ok maybe 90 different answers regarding your vision. I would suggest you discuss it with your priest or the bishop, especially if you have had this vision more than once. Pray for guidance and understanding. If it is from God I would doubt he would abandon you if you ask for his help in having you understand. As long as is not contrary to teachings of the Church, I would say seek deeper understanding.

2005 never said it happens all the time.:confused: Once is what I get out of it.
On another note V2005 doesnt sound like an idiot, I think from what is written that 05 is discerning this and thinking of everything possible that it could have been. Why does everyone (just about) have such a hard time beleiving that something wonderful and Holy may have been shown to to him?:😦
