Passing on what my parish priest told me on this issue. Heās a great guy who is very well educated and I trust him, but heās by no means infallible.
It depends entirely on your reasoning.
Doing it daily to āchillā and enjoy āThe Matrixā with cheetos and a mountain dew is probably not a good idea. It may likely constitute sin as a chemical dependency issue.
However, if you are doing it to alleviate something like anxiety, depression, nausea, pain, etc⦠and itās cleared by a doctor and monitored, combined with consent from the people you live with (spouse, generally), and it does improve the quality of your life and helps you function better in your daily life, AND itās legal where you live, then it is not likely sinful any more than taking a daily anti-anxiety medication or tylenol, really. If the person is functioning BETTER as a result of the āmedicationā then the negative effects of cannabis use becomes on par with the side effects of any prescribed medication. ALL medications have side effects.
I personally donāt think the church has made a declaration on the issue because itās not a cut-and-dried thing.
In my personal opinionā¦I agree with him. But again. Just passing on what I was told.
