My point is the Apostle John says John the Baptist told Andrew Jesus was the Messiah, the Lamb of God. Andrew in turn was the one who told Peter. Matthew says Jesus told Peter God told Peter. So perhaps God led John the Baptist and Andrew too. Or did they just pull it out of thin air?
humnnnn…

i think Prod. explained this already.

i dont think the others ever said: You are the Christ, Son of the Living God." did they?

So we must take a leap of faith and as Prod said, speculate Andrew didn’t know what he was talkiig about when he confessed to Peter that Jesus was the Lamb of God?

You showed me where Jesus said God told Peter. But John also says Andrew told Peter. Who told Andrew to believe what John the Baptist had just told him? Who for that matter told the Baptist to believe Jesus was the Lamb of God? God maybe telling everyone? He telling Andrew before Peter?
Yes, the Holy Spirit.

I

How many times did Christ command people not to tell who He was, after choosing all the Apostles? His time was not yet come, according to God’s plan. He did not immediately enter into His ministry by revealing Himself to everyone.
.
Yes I agree with this and that is why He spoke in parables and symbolic speech that would be understood later after His death and res-erection. Imagine if He had allowed His following to keep growing without causing some to leave His side. there would have been a riot when they came to arrest Him, His plan was to be taken quietly to the slaughter. this is why He didnt call after those who walked away when He said you must eat my flesh…

my question was did they all said: “you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” did they all said this?

Who? John the Baptist and Andrew? They said Christ was the Lamb of God, the Messiah before Peter did. John the Baptist was not one of the 12 but Andrew was. So my question was as Catholics, do we simply have to jump to the conclusion Andrew did not fully understand the mesning of what he was saying when he professed Christ Messiah to Peter? By assuming this, then Catholics can say Peter was the first of the Apostles to profess. I understand this is yours and Prodigal’s point. That Andrew did not fully understand the meaning of the Lamb of God and Messiah. And it could be.

The only problem, Wisdom, someone might see with this is put yourself in the Baptist’s shoes in my scenerio. And you say, hey, Matt (put me in Andrew’s shoes for the sake of my story), “I have found the Lamb of God!” And I then profess to my brother as Andrew did to Peter, “I have found Christ the Messiah!” Am I and my brother only believing this because you, Wisdom, told me and I in turn told him? Or because God has told us all? 🤷

Matt,

Messiah, Lamb of God, the King.

None of them said: "You are Christ, the Son of the Living God. do you know what this means for a Jew to say this?

To say Christ is the Messiah, Son of, Lamb of God? It makes them Christians? Members of the body of Christ?

i am not sure if you quite understand this.

remember when Kayaphas ripped his clothing when Jesus said: Father(GOD)

it was a blasphemy, a profanity. no jew would ever say that God has a Son. no Jew would dare to ever call God Father.

Muslins calls us profane and blasphemous people for saying that God has a Son.

hope i explained.

That’s an entirely new spin on that passage. The old Protestant spin was, ‘He knew who didn’t believe to begin with.’

Did Christ not teach the importance of the Shepherd going for the one lost sheep, yet we are to believe He let many of His disciples leave Him and walk with Him NO MORE? That’s why He turned to His Apostles and asked, will you go away also.

There was a progression of Christ’s revealing Himself, in His time. He was not going to sacrifce many disciples to remain hidden. Read chapter 7 and see that things were beginning to escalate.

Christ had the power to be present and withhold His identity, so that even those who knew Him would not recognize Him. Yet we’re to believe Christ let many disciples leave Him and walk with Him NO MORE?

Creative, but no, I don’t believe that.

Wisdom, I know you are saying Andrew did not believe yet Christ was the Son and his definition of Messiah, Lamb of God, was of a deliverer of sorts. And I confirmed that could be correct. But you do realize there are Jews even today who do become Christians, don’t you? And I have good Muslim friends who have a prayer to Allah (God) hanging in their home. They do not call me profane and blasphemous for believing God has a Son. In fact they have at Christmas brought forth gifts to me as the Wisemen did to the Christ Child and I to them.

I confess i am lost. i thought the problem was why St Peter when others had been revealed about the Messiah.

that is the diference. only to St Peter was revealed that Jesus was the Son of God. this is very important.

Matt, it does not matter if your friends dont call you blasphemous. their religious believe is that we are blasphmous. just learn more about it if you can.

Yes Wisdom, the problem was why St Peter when Andrew revealed to Peter Christ was the Messiah Lamb of God before Peter’s declaration of faith. But you and Prodigal are saying Andrew did not realize the Messiah Lamb of God was the Son. I understand what you are saying.

You’re the one who said Muslims call us blasphemous. I was only clarifying not all. 🙂 Peace Wisdom.

it is not that they did not realize. it was never revealed to them such. only to St Peter. at that moment St Peter was the one chosen to rule over the Kingdom of David. which Jews were waiting for. the restoration of the Kingdom of David. only this time the kingdom would be of peace and not a Temple and an army like the Jews expected. this time would be just the Temple which is the Church. the Church whose mission is to gather all the people of God into one house. the House of God.

Wisdom, I thought I was on pace to understand what you were saying. But now I’m uncertain what you mean by “it is not that they did not realize, it was never revealed to them such”? If it is not they did not realize, then Andrew did realize Christ was Son when he told Peter Christ was Messiah? If so, who revealed it to them so they could realize?

And right you are Matt. Husband has a son-in-lawwho is Muslim and him nor his family have ever said or implied anything at all. We share prayer and Christmas.

Prodigal Son1 in black; Doki in blue;

That’s an entirely new spin on that passage. (And this last statement seems quite unkind.) The old Protestant spin was, ‘He knew who didn’t believe to begin with.’

Did Christ not teach the importance of the Shepherd going for the one lost sheep (that’s what Jesus said), yet we are to believe He let many of His disciples leave Him and walk with Him NO MORE? (Any evidence they came back?) That’s why He turned to His Apostles and asked, will you go away also. I’m not understanding your point.
There was a progression of Christ’s revealing Himself, in His time. He was not going to sacrifce many disciples to remain hidden. What does this mean? Didn’t Jesus say, Many are called but few are chosen’? Read chapter 7 and see that things were beginning to escalate.

Christ had the power to be present and withhold His identity, so that even those who knew Him would not recognize Him. (True. I wonder if He’s in many protestant churches and some catholics don’t see Him there?) Yet we’re to believe Christ let many disciples leave Him and walk with Him NO MORE? Isn’t that what the Bible says?

Creative, but no, I don’t believe that. Believe what?

🙂 Yeah I’ve even been known to extend my wishes for their Ramadan. One God created us all I figure. 🤷 😉
