Just asking the question?

Please provide support for your assertions.

That Jesus established ONE Church and It is definitely not Christianity.
For Christianity has no unity, harmony maybe
and in order to be a man of God, one needs to be baptised of water and spirit
New covenant with God = water baptismal
Old covenant = circumcision

“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Hi, there.

This appears to be a common question on the Forum.

Rather than creating a new series of answers and thoughts, I recommend the following web site, which has gathered radio program’s senior apologist, Jimmy Akin, regarding all matters of salvation from a Catholic perspectiveCatholic Answers Live.

All of Mr. Akin’s writings include Scriptural sources and detailed and exhaustive explanations.

In addition, you can review an older forum thread for insight.

would you take commonsense as evidence?

1st argument
Jesus only established one church
you can search the bible for the word “churches” coming out of Jesus mouth and I doubt that you will find one.

“upon this rock I will build my Church(singular) and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”

now if Christianity is the Church of Christ(which according to some protestants it is)
don’t you think Jesus had failed us if it is so?(the gates of hell shall not prevail against it)
and look at Christianity now, all contradicting one another on how to worship the Lord.

it’s like a human body

a body needs a head(visible church) and the brain(Jesus,God,Holy spirit)

“The Sacraments of Salvation”

1129 The Church affirms that for believers the sacraments of the New Covenant are necessary for salvation.51 “Sacramental grace” is the grace of the Holy Spirit, given by Christ and proper to each sacrament. The Spirit heals and transforms those who receive him by conforming them to the Son of God. The fruit of the sacramental life is that the Spirit of adoption makes the faithful partakers in the divine nature52 by uniting them in a living union with the only Son, the Savior.

There is a lot there.

I picked up a couple of thoughts:
(1) What is the gospel:
“Jesus Christ died and rose for our sins so that we may be saved.”
(2) What must I do to be saved:
“Repent, believe, and be baptized.”

This is so interesting I want to save this link.

Now if this is the true teaching of Catholicism, it seems that a lot of Catholics here have not gotten the message.

On more than one thread here I have heard that they must be 100% accurate in all of their beliefs and that their eternal destiny hinges on getting it right.

Thanks

well in order to reach salvation, one needs to be in the right church don’t they? 😃

Thanks

I have been on here a long time and have never seen that. Can you point 1 example please.

Please provide evidence these beliefs are mandatory for salvation. Thanks.
To cover baptism read John 3:5.

To cover the Church read Mt 16:18-19, John 21:15-19, Mt 18:15-20, and 1 Tim 3:15.

To cover forgiving sins read Mark 11:25 and Mt 6:14.

To cover following the commandments (or beatitudes) read Mt 19:16-22, Mt 25:41-46, Mark 10:17-22, Luke 10:25-28, Luke 18:18-22, and 1 John 3:15.

To cover belief (faith) in Jesus Christ read John 3:15, 5:24, 6:47, and 17:1-5.

To cover the Real Presence read John 6 (in particular verse 54).

To cover works of mercy read Rom 2:6-11, 6:22, Gal 6:8, and James 2:18-26.

To show that it is not in scripture alone read John 5:39.

It is not a single thing as is clearly shown in scripture. In essence, we must follow what Christ’s Church teaches us to understand what we need for salvation. Our sins must also be forgiven to inherit eternal life. Hopefully this helps.

Love God, Love your neighbor.
The reported words of Jesus.
Good start but lets be specific.

The quote is:
Mt 22:36-40 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, " YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD **WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND**.' 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 "The second is like it, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ 40 “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

This carries on into much more than simply acknowledging God’ existance. It involves a complete turning of one self toward God, a rejection of sin.
This is the “Perfection”, the “Holliness” to which we are called.

Peace
James

Thanks

Which aspect, of repent, believe and be baptized in your opinion are Catholics not getting?

(1) Quoting catholic.com is educational in that I understand what is and what is not Catholic orthodoxy. However, since I am not Catholic, it is not convincing as far as its truthfulness.
(2) Baptism is an action, not a belief. Not quite what I had in mind. Thanks anyway.
While I understand what you are saying, the point of the link was not to convince you with Catholic arguments, but there were multiple Bible passages that you could have taken out of it. If you think Bible verses are not convincing, you may want to stop posting as you will not be convinced by anything other than your own opinion. I have also provided some Bible passages that you can read unless those aren’t sufficient either.

If the Bible won’t convince you, will Church Fathers? What are you looking for in a proof? What will you accept? Maybe this will help narrow down the responses to the source you will accept.

I don’t think it’s as simple a matter as a list of mandatory beliefs. The Catholic Church teaches that it’s even possible for someone who has never heard the name of Jesus to be saved (see CCC 1260). I think it’s more important how we live our lives, in search of the Truth and and of righteousness. Thus the words of Christ as referenced above to love the Lord and love your neighbor.

That said, the teachings of the Church are extremely important - they are, in fact, Truth - and knowing and following all of them is the surest way to final salvation! And knowing the teachings of the Church and rejecting them is a path to condemnation.

Now I am confused. Jimy Akin mentions nothing of that here.
Is Jimy Akin wrong?

OK. Now you guys are really confusing me.

One guy posts a number of articles by Jimy Akin that mention none of this. The articles just mention Jesus and his death on the cross. At first glance they sound pretty good.

Then the next guy posts a laundry list of stuff. Now not all of this is beliefs.

You all are giving me the impression you don’t know what beliefs are mandatory for salvation.
