Today, senate democrats voted against cloture on Bolotn to get him an up-or-down vote.

They were citing that they were missing some requested documents re Bolton, thusly they wanted to delay cloture until after the recess.

Huh?? Like they were going to change their minds about the guy??

This is not a filibuster. Harry Reid said so himself just after the vote to end debate failed.

Inouye (D-HI) didn’t vote again, out of town.

Spector (R-PA) didn’t vote??

FRIST voted nay??? WHAT???

Seems to be that it’s Spector’s fault, not the dems.

After cloture failed, Reid and Biden both said they would allow an “immediate” up or down vote if the WH releases documents Democrats have requested.

So why do they need the documents if they aren’t going to read them before voting?

This sounds suspiciously like what was done to Miguel Estrada. Senators complained of not being able to ask him enough questions (he had already been more thoroughly interrogated by committee than nearly any other nominee, by question count). They also made a request for documents, which seemed simple enough.

Problem is, the documents they were requesting were extremely sensitive, relating to cases that Estrada had had contact with in a previous job. There was no precedent for their release, the office refused, and that all became part of the “case” against him. I hope that isn’t what is happening here.

The compromise sounds like the college honor system

The professors had the honor and the students had a system. 😉
