So...should artificial birth control be illegal too?

Abortion will never be outlawed in America. This I can guarantee. Republicans say they want to do it, but they never really would. There would be WAY too much opposition. Our society is becoming more and more liberal when it comes to equality. Gay marriage will be legal soon.
Never say never - I can pretty well guarentee that people 100 years ago would have said that abortion would never be legalized in America. This they would also have guarenteed.

You speak of these things in the sense of what the current political and social climate tells you. Such a statement does not predict how such climate might change.
We will continue to protest, to educate and to lobby for the protection of the unborn.
I have faith in the American People to eventually awaken to the dangers.

Birth control will not be made illegal in the USA. Politically spekaing, this issue would be a non-starter at any level.

I don’t think that abortion should be illegal. I think it would cause a lot more problems than it would solve. People would be getting back alley abortions and teenagers would be dying. Not only that, but many children would be born into the world that would be completely neglected and have unfit surroundings. I just think it would cause more harm than good.
Try Googling…“woman dies abortion” and see what you find. It’s not a pretty or safe picture, even with abortion being legal. It should be called what it is - murder, and treated as such in our legal system. No need for a new set of laws.

The moneys that currently get pumped into abortion facilities should be channeled into converting them into pregnancy care centers, providing education, pre-natal care and support, adoption assistance, etc. It will take re-education and enforcement, just like the Civil Rights Movement that called for racial equality. It is time to eliminate the dishonest rhetoric that surrounds the abortion industry, and seek equal treatment of all persons from conception through the event of their natural death.

The back alley abortion is a myth. Prior to Roe the maternal deaths from lllegal abortions was less than 400 a year. 92% of all abortions were perfromed by a licensed physician in a sterile enviroment.

So what has been the result of legalizing abortion? The number of children killed a year has increasd from 400,000 a year to over 1.2 million a year.

It is interesting that whenever somneone makes the “legal abortion saves lives argument” they always leave the child out of the eqaution.

As we all know, in 1970 and earlier, the streets were full of roving packs of unwanted children. One could barely walk a block in any community without falling over the body of a teenager who died from a back alley abortion.

I agree. If you saw the number of young people at the March and Walk for Life, you must be aware there is change in the air. If not now, I expect it with the next generation. They are certainly the survivors of this holocaust, and becoming more and more aware of it.

Actually, legal abortion is the biggest reason for why crime rates have fallen simply because the women who have abortion tend to be young, single, poor, and in short the kind of women who are more likely to raise future criminals.

Again you are spouting eugenics. Please, get on your face before God in the blessed Sacrament and beg for wisdom.

There is absolutely no evdience to support this. The main reason ceome rates hav dropped is increased rates of narceratiuon. There are studie to support this.

lol, you want to throw out some statistics to back this up. Oh wait, I forgot, there are none and this is just an assumption you have made based on nothing.

Why not just make it illegal to be anything but Catholic? I mean, if we want to push Catholic morals on people, why not just force them to be Catholic, right?
That in itself would be immoral. This had been condemmed repeatedly.

So, would you support taking all children away from poor, young women and putting them in a foster home? If not, why would you support killing them?

To all those in support of abortion, if this isn’t a human, what is ist?

Have we discovered some new species of life?

There are some who believe it causes abortion, right?

What about adultery and divorce…should they be illegal too…since those things go against Church teaching as well?
No because there is a seperation of church and state just because it goes againist church teachings dosen’t mean it can or should be illegal.

At the very least, this gives non-catholics the right not to live by Catholic standards. On the flipside, Catholics still can choose NOT to have an abortion, since this is what the Church teaches. Separation of Church and State allows Catholics to live as Catholics, and allows non-Cathlics to not be subject to Catholic laws.

i know that.it gives noncatholics such as myself the right to use birth control invitro ect.

“Seperation of church and state” (This phrase is not found in the constitution, BTW) means that there cannot be a fusion of the church and the government, like what happens in England with the Anglican church. It does not mean that there cannot be religiously motivated laws. For instance, the fight against slavery was largely religiously motivated. Was the fight against slavery unconstitutional? Was the 13th ammendment unconstitutional?

Most people I counsel tell me that the supreme court made it allowed by law, which makes it morally right.

.
Ummm…not quite. What the Supreme Court decided was that states could not make blanket laws prohibiting abortion. When that decision came down, some states were already liberalizing their abortion laws. :coffeeread:

Now the states are allowed to make some laws, as long as the INTENTION is not to stop abortion. Which brings up questions about parental notification, delays at the office, what can or cannot, must or must not, be said by the doctor to the patient.:tsktsk:

In the very unlikely event that a new Justice nominated to the Supreme Court would side with the current four Justices against abortion, it would NOT automatically make abortion illegal. It would mearly turn the matter back to the states.

Obviously, some states would continue the current abortion policy, but some would put restrictions on abortions. Ireland tried that, so Irish women went to the UK for abortions. In the USA, states that allowed abortion would get visits from states which did not, and there is no way you could restrict it. Ireland tried it, no success, but I am sure it will be tried by some states. The lawyers will get rich over all the lawsuits.:banghead:

Something I read in Freakonomics, I didn’t make it up.

I don’t see why it’s so surprising to you that fewer poor people raised by single teenage mothers would mean less crime.

We offer evidence that legalized abortion has contributed signicantly to
recent crime reductions. Crime began to fall roughly eighteen years after abortion
legalization. The ve states that allowed abortion in 1970 experienced declines
earlier than the rest of the nation, which legalized in 1973 with Roe v. Wade.
States with high abortion rates in the 1970s and 1980s experienced greater crime
reductions in the 1990s. In high abortion states, only arrests of those born after
abortion legalization fall relative to low abortion states. Legalized abortion appears
to account for as much as 50 percent of the recent drop in crime.
From the Quarterly Journal of Economics.

Until 1960 or so, many state and federal laws made dissemination of information, appliances, or medicines that caused contraception illegal.

The Bible says not to steal. If religious and moral convictions should have no influence on secular laws, should we perhaps legalize robbery?

This is an idea called eugenics. Would you also support forced sterilization of poor women? Maybe we could all put them in a camp somewhere? It would be the final solution to crime.
