So what about overpopulation?

Interesting way of putting things. I admit for me though I personally feel more loved if I am protected from that part of my husband if you know what I mean? And I know my husband feels that same way too. So for us it would actually be less loving to give ourselves fully to each other then to protect ourselves from each other. But I can understand how if you wanted your spouse to give themselves fully and they did not how they could be less loving.
Aha! Another opinion.

That is right. And that’s why we have good alternatives…letting God provide or NFP. Or both.
God tends to be AWOL during famines. He seems to let us figure it out ourselves.

NFP? Isn’t that “trying to prevent life from forming when life is God’s greatest gift to us.”

See my post to Calliso.

Nope, it’s God asking us to use our brains…plan things out, do things naturally, and selflessly…the way *He *intended!

Take the population of the world: 6 billion +/-
Take the area of Texas: 260,000 square miles
Do the math.

Each person on earth would have 1,248 square feet to live on.

The remaining 49 states and the rest of earth would be devoid of human life.

What we have is a failure of various governments to allow the freedom to produce the goods and services that the world’s population now seeks. Immigrants assimilate into our economy and become a part of the production/consumption matrix. They would gladly have done this at home if it were possible.

He will never leave us on our own…it is us who turn away from Him.

Common sense doesn’t work for everyone either. 🤷
You know, it is artificial birth control and abortion that really don’t work for you, IMO. Whether they eat away at your body or your soul, they find a way to ruin you.

Blessings,
Therese
He might be there spiritualy but rarely does God actually bail us out of our situation. Food rarely miracolously rains from the skies if you know what I mean. Hmm artifical birth control works fine for plenty of people from what I have seen. I suppose your comment might be true for some people though.

Sigh it;s not all about space to live. You have to consider resources too. And those are definately limited.

Well, he left all those folks who died in famines alone.

Contraception of NFP? Same result.

In addition to being one of the few Catholics with common sense, do you also speak for god? Does God know you speak for him?

Where does the water come from in Texas? God provides?

OK. Whose opinions are they? You said it was the common sense argument. Is it a common sense argument, or an argument from authority?
It is a common sense argument. The facts speak for themselves. Sex is for unity and procreation. A barrier is used to separate, not to unite. As much as someone may feel they need to be protected from that part of their husband or wife, it is still part of him or her. It is the way God made them. Therefore they are rejecting that part of of their spouse. They are saying they don’t want all of him or her at that moment.

The pill is used to make a part of a woman’s body that was healthy and functioning, the way it was supposed to, no longer function properly. Our bodies were not meant to be inundated with those hormones every day of our lives and affects not just that part of her body, but her whole self. And surgical sterilization is breaking, or destroying a part of us that was functioning just fine…self mutilation. How is it not common sense that this is not the way it is suppose to be? These are not my opinions they are facts. If there is a serious enough reason…whatever that might be, why can’t people just learn self control? Love is not just sex and love is certainly not about self gratification at any cost. But love is about sacrifice and total self giving. Ask Jesus!😉

Around this part of Texas, there is a huge underground aquafer. Some of the water is
saline so the army/city have built a huge desalinization plant. Our water may not be
inexpensive, but it’s very adequate.

More personal opinion. Interesting, but there is no reason to adopt it.

How many years is it good for? And remember, each year that population keeps growing and growing and growing because god wants more and more and more people. Do the math.

But, it’s not a zero sum game. What about all of the gardens that are not planted? We were supposed to be starving world wide, if you listened to the scientists of a generation ago. Are our current scientists suddenly smarter?

We have no faith in this age.

Does give it sense of perspective, though. But, between the UN and our current government, we should soon be culling the herd, so to speak.

Very few scientists from 20 yeras ago said we would be starving. Some environmental activists said it, but only a handful had any scientific credentials. Many more scientists were developing disease resistant genetically modifed species, new pesticides, and increasing yield per acre.

I agree we should have faith in science.

I’m sorry - I’m old. Go back to the 1950s and 1960s. The blockbuster book in 1971 was “The Coming Ice Age”. Huh.

Anyway, science has no cure for my cancer. I trust in God. May you be spared the test of your faith.

It’s not just her opinion. I suppose not everyone finds this vision of human personhood compelling, and you’re right–it’s pretty hard to argue with those who don’t. But you need to recognize that this is a widely held view among conservative Christians, eloquently expressed by Pope John Paul II, and in keeping with both Christian tradition and the instincts of a lot of non-Catholics and non-Christians who care about living in a simpler and more natural way. You may not care about these things–probably don’t, based on your other posts. Your loss.
