So, what do you think will happen at Notre Dame at Commencement?

Thanks for posting Kass’s article. There are not too many of those type of articles in Chicago papers. I have been very disappointed in the Obama mania that has taken over local papers of the place I once called home.
Outside of the Archdiocese’s paper, I think John Kass is the only true voice and he’s Greek Orthodox. God bless John Kass for probably taking a hit from the popular media but he’s right on target. His competitor the Sun-Times has a totally different spin for sure as well as the local tv stations.

Yesterday, David Horowitz, the former radical who wrote a book about the liberal universities, was asked about the Notre Dame Controversy on a local tallk show. He said according to his research almost all of the professors at Notre Dame are Pro-choice and are standing in line waiting for extra tickets for the Commencement. There will be no empty seats. I hope none of the true pro-life students relinguish their seats to the abortion lovers.
It all started with Hesbergh, and we know know that he was very much like Drinan.

I think that most people will maintain civil order but that there will be hotheads who may make trouble for everyone. I think there will be heavy police presence to handle troublemakers. My hope is that the university’s reputation is not scarred by violence or death over the selection of a speaker.

It is notable that the Vatican is not weighing in against Obama speaking but wants to have a good relationship with the president. Here’s an opinion by E.J. Dionne which reflects what I am reading lately. Maybe some of the firebrands should calm down and listen for a change.

Dionne is very much the liberal Catholic. He always tries to reduce the abortion issue to a matter of politics and an exception to the general agreement of Democratic party policy with the social doctrine of the Church. It ought to be clear to anyone not locked into a '70s view of the Church that abortion is only one area where the Democrats are hostile to the interests of the Church. He is quite happy with the fact that Catholic Charities, for instance, is for all intents and purposes, an agency of the state. He seems content with the idea that the state should exclude religious bodies from social services, meaning health and education except in so far as they follow the dictates of the state. The Democratic Party is socialist, not in the narrow sense of advocating state ownership of the means of production, although Obama is also doing this, but in the sense that the state has superceded the Church as the institution to which citizens owe moral allegiance.

I know four people that are there. No they do not have kids at ND and never have. They are all pro-life and are willing to stand up for this issue. They also were able to take off of work to go this weekend. Our group will be keeping then in our prayers till their safe return.
