So, you thought Mother Mary is our Mama ?

Well, people can’t say that unless they know her.

Growing up American, and having attended old fashion Catholic grade school, I never had a devotion to Mary or the saints. I would go to the church to pray to the Blessed Sacrament after school or during lunch break, and always experienced the presence of Christ.

But Mary to me was like the statue in church–plaster and indifferent…too high up in heaven.

I worked overseas with Italian and Portuguese Catholic missionaries, and then came to experience how they relate to Mary. They were highly educated and professional church people. Their devotion brought me the experience of having a companion in my walk to Jesus, someone – namely Mary – lightening my cross and sharing with me her joy of Christ and heaven, a new dimension of my faith that I will never forget.

What I learned is that the communion of saints is for real…

and you have to experience people with Mary in day- to- day real life, not read about Mary.
 
My wife is filipina, from Baguio, Philippines, and you’re correct. That’s how I’ve heard them refer to her back on the islands and my wife has said it. In our house we all refer to Mary as Mama Mary. My daughter, Veronica, always calls the BVM that. You’re right, it’s a term of affection and love.

Rev Kevin doesn’t have to.

But for many, Mary is the short ladder to a deeper and more fervent spiritual life in Christ.

  1. I don’t think English is Roselily’s primary language (Just a guess, I could be wrong), since she is from Canada, her primary language could be French Canadian.
  2. Roselily, is there something specific you would like to talk about with Mary, other than just calling her Mother through the whole thread? This is a place for discussion of a topic, and not merely veneration.

Ah, Brother!:)… A sister was with me and lead me pray Rosary during weekday lunch time some times, and she is very kind, and that she is Filipina.
All like her.

Therefore, just as I can ask a neighbore or friend to pray for me, I can also ask the saints or Mary to pray for me: There is no difference, for we are ALL part of the Body of Christ, joined by Christ who is the Head of the Body.

Now, one hang-up people have is the word “prayer”. They equate “prayer” with “worship”, and conclude that if we pray to May we are worshipping her. Not so. That word has several meanings. Yes, some prayer can be worship, but “prayer” can also mean a request. It is that second definition that is the sense in which we pray to the saints: We are making a “request” of them, and the request is that we are asking them to pray for us.

You misunderstood the context of what is being said. If you look you will see that I said the word “statement” and the statement that started with “We are children…” Now this is from Matthew 18:3 which does not mean to pray to Mary. This is what is say, “I assure you, unless you TURN from your sins and become as little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.” This mean we are not to be childish, like the disciples, arguing over petty issues, but childlike, with humble and sincere hearts. Jesus said this because the disciples were arguing about who would be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. So you see this “statement” has nothing to do with praying to Mary. So once again point to where I said you should not pray to Mary.

Oh! where am I?

And here is a healing prayer that is my dear Sister in Christ told me, we meet sometimes, and she said this prayer taught by a loving priest and this prayer has made many well from illness!

I do not know, I am so sad! For this thread I hope protestant brothers sisters think Most Holy Mother is their Mother also! I hope protestant brothers sisters think O Most Holy Mother is their mother also ! I think Christians all same. We only have one Father in Heaven.

Oh! My father speak and read write four languages very well, and can read write another two or three languages also but not speak well. He wrote books use two languages about some subjects related to Physics. He is in the middle of one book now.
