And why is it so hard to understand that this issue goes far beyond temporary shelter? No one has said we should not meet the immediate needs.

I understand that the issue of immigration is much more complex than immediate needs. However, there are immigration threads in abundance throughout this site that discuss the different aspects of the topic. Are these children pawns, as has been suggested? I do not know. Nor do I know which sides they are pawns for. After all, even when discussing the immediate problem and solutions, applauding the efforts made to help these children, there comes an incursion of political posturing against illegal immigration and finger pointing.

Immigration has been a significant issue since the Reagan years, I do believe this “crisis” is more rhetoric than real. I do not know which side is worse though. Are those in Congress who want reform over-blowing it push reform, or are the Republicans over-blowing it to stir anti-Obama sentiment (and be default anti-Democrat sentiment) for the up-coming election? Either or both are equally conceivable.
