In this current age that take’s great courage and I hope there are not horrifying repercussions form the decision.

Mary.

Wearing a jersey with a message which violates her conscience would be a form of forced speech. Pulling out of those matches is her only way not to be forced to advocate for something that violates her beliefs.

I saw something about these jerseys on Facebook awhile ago. One of the people that commented on the article thought it was “hateful” that anyone wouldn’t want to wear one of them.

Of course, they didn’t think it was hateful to force someone to wear something they don’t like.

“Hate” really has degenerated into a meaningless word these days.

At one time athletic events were supposed to be free of politics. This is pretty much in your face politics. All of this stuff is beginning to get on my nerves.

Why don’t we have a heterosexual pride month and see if they would agree wearing
those jerseys?

I’m actually a really big soccer fan and I was watching a match between the Seattle Sounders FC and Seattle’s a more liberal city so sometimes they do have gay pride flags at their games usually by the fans it’s not something they fly everywhere. Seattle’s big Soccer City anyway they were playing New York City FC and the flags for the corner kicks (this was IN NYC) were gay pride Flags which I think is actually a violation of the rules of the game if I recall correctly. I don’t understand why everyone has to jump the Gay Pride bandwagon it’s kind of like the transgender thing how did this happen this quit? I live near Augusta Georgia did you know that Downtown Augusta has gay pride flags all over the street lights at the moment? I’m not sure how that ended up happening in a southern city in the United States. I don’t understand why people accuse us of being bigots because we don’t agree with these lifestyles but at the same time they’re being bigoted by calling us bigots.

I went to Google … not surprisingly others have already come up with the “heterosexual pride” idea, but what I did find slightly surprising is how far back it goes. From wikipedia:

“Straight pride is a slogan that arose in the late 1980s and early 1990s and has been used primarily by social conservative groups as a political stance and strategy.”

I think this has been the case with many people and it would seem a world wide (western) phenomena that the gay activists have targeted sports as a venue to promote their ideology.

I think there should be many more protests because of this ‘in your face’ spread of the politically correct religion.

It will only back down when it is strongly challenged, like how feminism has had to back down.

This is not quite correct, or at least…not the full information.

The U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer teams both planned to wear rainbow-colored numbers on the back of their uniforms only, for two games…on Jun 8th and June 11th.
And then, those shirts were to be auctioned off for charity.

See photos of the women’s shirts, below, from one of the games mentioned.

This is do their part in a collaborative initiative between U.S. Soccer and “You Can Play”— an organization dedicated to eradicating homophobia in the sports world.
One of the organization’s main goals is to ensure safety in locker rooms. In other words, don’t beat up the gay player.

As an “outspoken Christian” and athlete, I would have thought this player would support such worthy goals
.
I don’t know her of course, but perhaps she does support those goals but doesn’t like the idea of “gay pride month”.

Maybe they could change “gay pride month” to “don’t beat up people who aren’t like you” month. :hmmm:

As an “outspoken Christian” and athlete, I would have thought this player would support such worthy goals. After all, her own coach and manager–Jill Ellis–is gay.

Instead, she chooses to end her entire sports career because of it?
If she felt uncomfortable making a statement against homophobia, perhaps she could have just told the coach she’d like to wear her usual jersey?

To me, this was a very short-sighted, non-Christian-like decision.

.
It is a valid Christian decision. Where were the safe places for kids like me in school in the 1960s? Getting beaten up by other guys with something to prove or just to show they could shove you against your locker and demand money or, if they heard you said something negative about them? “I’ll see you after school” meant a fist fight and I didn’t want to fight anybody.

There is no such thing as a fear of gay people. I worked with LGBT people at a large hospital in the 70’s and 80’s. One went from being a woman to looking like a man. There was no outcry, no protests. A witness to the truth is a witness to the truth. People got along.

This is about indoctrination not eradication. No thought police for her or me.

Indeed. Also worth noting that I and the other nerds that I hung around with were called “gay” frequently. (I knew that that was a name you didn’t want to be called for a good while before I actually knew what it meant.)

Perhaps we could have a day for everybody who gets called “gay” by bullies (regardless of whether it’s true or not).

I wasn’t like the ‘cool kids’ or the punks who thought physically bullying someone in public proved they were men. One of them actually came up to me and said, “You think you’re better than us?” No. I wasn’t out to prove anything. Fortunately, the circle of cool kids was small.

And I was a nerd waaaaay before that term existed. You were either a greaser or a frat. At the time, no one used gay to denote behavior, but that began to change in the '70’s.

Feminism had to “back down”?
Doesn’t seem that way to mean. Heck, generally it seems like liberals are more extreme than ever.

If the job of conservatives is to fight against liberalism then I think we’ve done a terrible job. (Granted, I’m sure many liberals say “We’ve done a terrible job of fighting against conservatism.”)

I am surprised they did that in Augusta. But politicians of every stripe like to be with the “in” crowd.

I’m not quite sure what the difference is between a “rainbow colored jersey” and a “jersey with rainbow colored numbers” is. Either way it is a prominent “gay pride” display on the jersey.

And whatever the stated motivations are, that flag alone has very defined connotations attached to it in regards to acceptable lifestyle choices. No one at a casual glance would think to themselves, “oh, the US women’s soccer team is bringing awareness to homophobia in sports”. They will think, “The US women’s soccer team supports the homosexual lifestyle and/or SSM”. Whatever fine print they put out, there is no defined context to a rainbow flag on a jersey other than what that flag stands for generally. For example, I don’t see many people around the country accepting “heritage, not hate” in regards to the confederate flag in public or even on private property, despite what its owner claims. No, most people are quick to write it off as racist.

Also, I’m not sure exactly what “homophobia in sports” really means, as it is undefined and that word has been used in the past to mean literally anything the person or group using it wants it to mean.

All in all, I don’t see anything remotely unchristian in this woman refusing to display and represent a gay pride flag.
