Did anyone see the Italian Figure skater who skated to Ave Maria? They said it was the first time that music had ever been used at the Olympics. The skate was so amazing and smooth I loved it.

Yes, she was incredible.

Media here in the US are doing what they are paid for: tabloid “journalism” and mis-representation.
I find it rather amusing that the “liberal media”, who years ago, put Russia on a pedistal, now are ripping them apart since Putin started going after a certain minority considered “royalty” in the US.

Did I see it?
At the opening notes I started to cry.
Reckon I’m just an old softy.

Will watch again. Watched her skate but missed the Ave Maria. I am so used to tuning out the music, I guess. Apparently she felt comfortable skating to this in Russia, not sure if she would have felt as comfortable in other countries.

I thought this young Russian girl was impressive.
She was great and I did notice she wore her crucifix. Make room, Nadia Comaneci.

It does sound like a third world country if you rely on mainly Western news sources. Then again, America and Western Europe don’t sound too hot if you read Russian news sources.
So, I’m not the only one.

I feel so out of touch with the current pop culture.

Is there any way for me to watch this routine, I missed it?

The Gold Zone channel on www.nbcolympics.com is pretty cool, think of it as the Olympic version of the NFL Red Zone.

You get a 30 minute “freeview” and then will need to enter the user name and password from your video provider’s website.

Beautifully presented.

There was an article on the Frankfurter Allgemeine Newspaper website about the outfit of the German team.

It was asked whether the athletes should be ashamed of their outfit.

The most liked comment said it all: “Yes! (Clear question → clear answer)”

The first thing I thought of was those multicolored freezes I used to eat as a kid

Maybe not fashionable, in a Paris or Milan sort of way, but they look yummy enough to eat.🙂

They said this opening ceremony had the highest number of foreign leaders than any other recent Olympic game. Haha 👍

I remember seeing at least some EU leaders like the Italian PM, Prince Albert of Monaco and his wife Charlene,…,Turkish PM :)…

The Biathlon - Women’s shooting seems to becoming more popular

In the Summer Olympics. Kim Rhode from the U.S. took home the gold.

Malaysian shooter Suryani who is eight month pregnant at Summer Olympics…

******************************************************************************************************** I watched in awe - she was beautiful and I swear angels were skating all around with her! I think the Olympic presentation has been very well done - I measure the success by the smiles on the faces of people. I am smiling at what I have seen, although the “hammer and sickle” and red history gave me chills. After all that the other cultural events portrayed were very nice. The new technology of colored lighting and spatial art were beautiful. Now I have to say - the NBC network gets a booby prize for their commentary and if only the mute button would shut up the continuous babbling. The figure skating events are favorites and it was so painful having to listen to the two mouth pieces. They contribute nothing and ruin the moment. The political diatribe is in a class by itself. Recording the events that take place during the night and then watching so “skip forward” can be used is the best way to view. You just can’t shut up the babblers during the event.
👍
