Based on what I have heard about overall conditions in the area, it appears we have our first Olympics in a Third World Country.
How many times has it been said:

“The USSR is Third World economy with a First World military”.

Things probably haven’t changed THAT much, even with better market reforms, I’m sorry to say.

Apparently you have never lived in indiana. 😃

Russia looks like the Roman Empire to me.🤷 Streets paved, no potholes, electricity, heat.

Imagine what the World would think if the Olympics were in Detroit. It would make atlanta look like the best city in the world!

We have plenty of places in America that could pass for a third world country. Our best residential areas probably surpass anything in Russia, just as our worst is very likely below anything there.

There are a lot of homeless people in the USA. They wander about looking in garbage cans for something to eat, and they sleep on the streets. They keep their things in shopping carts and are found begging at freeway entrances with signs saying that they are hungry. If they need emergency hospital care, it was reported in the newspapers that hospitals dump them in skid row and don’t allow them to stay. Also, in the USA, there are reports of recently born babies dumped in garbage cans, or left at the doorstep of fire departments. Does this type of thing indicate that the USA has a culture and civilization far superior to any other country?

As a resident of the setting for “Winter’s Bone”, but also of what is reputedly the most expensive home in America, there are, indeed, places in this country that have a “second world” look to them. I’m not so sure about 'third world", though. I have never seen anything here that resembles Haiti, for instance.

I also doubt we have areas any worse than the worst in Russia. I have seen photos of some of the most neglected parts of Russia, and they’re really, really bad.

Anyone else getting a distinct “hunger games” vibe?
“Hunger Games” is a metaphor for the human condition, just as Jack London novels are. One should not be surprised that such works “ring a bell”, because that’s the writer’s intent.

Try a Google Maps trip to parts of Detroit, and Gary Indiana, and you’ll see third world.

I have friends who served in the Military and have seen third world action. Katrina and New Orleans was worse than they had seen anywhere else. sewage, bodies, animalistic actions by people in survival mode. If you want to understand just how much the reality is kept from us talk to those who were on the ground in NO. Had that happened in Russia 8 years ago you would see footage of it through all of NBC’s coverage.

It is not just the russian bias. Rick steves writes many books about traveling in europe. To hear him tell it there is a pickpocket EVERYWHERE. While there may be some crime, Let’s see what hotel Rick Steves recommends in Compton CA. Gun violence alone could be used to show how the US may less “first world” than we think. And I say that as an NRA supporting gun toting american!

I meant the Olympics in general.

“May the odds be ever in your favor.”

District 1 is doing well!
Now that you mention it, Scotty Hamilton doing commentary for the team figure skating did sound a lot like Ceasar Flickerman; Sandra. Bezic, to her credit, did not.

New Orleans was a major disaster zone. I would hope that that would be worse that what most of the world is like on a typical day.

The men’s Gold Medalist from Canada for the Moguls is amazing! He and his brother who has cerebral palsy have a special relationship. If you aren’t moved by the performance and celebration between brothers then you don’t have a soul.

Let me get this strait. China aborts, abuses and throws away children and not a peep when they hosted. Now, Russia has a law making it illegal to expose children to homosexual propaganda and the world is freaking out!?

There is something bigger going on with all of this homosexual stuff.

But on to the Olympics.

I, unlike many, think the winter olympics are the best of the olympics. Ice skating is proof that humans are a unique creation, truly children of God Himself. And skiing etc is the sheer mastery of a mountain with snow for fun, competition and entertainment!

Go USA! Go Russia! Go world!

The western media is making a blatant attempt to be biased with these olympics.

Bob Costas said his eye was as red as the old Soviet Flag, and reports are that the olympic villiage looks like a refugee camp.

Newsflash! They all do! At the last Olympics there was a report about the sheer number of condoms given away to the athletes! It is woodstock for people who are athletic! What do you expect!
Yes, the American Media has lost what little credibility they had left with their shameful handling of the Sochi Olympics.

Had Putin kowtowed to the Sodomite Agenda, the Western Media would be praising him.

Did anyone see the Italian Figure skater who skated to Ave Maria? They said it was the first time that music had ever been used at the Olympics. The skate was so amazing and smooth I loved it.
Yes, she was incredible.
That was Carolina Kostner.
Did I see it?
At the opening notes I started to cry.
Reckon I’m just an old softy.
Will watch again. Watched her skate but missed the Ave Maria. I am so used to tuning out the music, I guess. Apparently she felt comfortable skating to this in Russia, not sure if she would have felt as comfortable in other countries.

She was great and I did notice she wore her crucifix. Make room, Nadia Comaneci.
**The Ladies’ part of the competition is coming up and she will probably skate that program again. **
